My impression for this guitar, from all the videos i've seen on youtube is that its muddy and dirty...not the case in 10% of the videos where the guitar sounds excellent, solid, not that bassy...But how this guitar actually sounds in real? Can you get the good tone out of it if you dont have a valve amp, using transistor-solid amp? Can you make it sound good if you have a good experience in setting amps? I cant find this guitar in my town and check her out and see how she really actually sounds.
Nice sound. I wonder why no one records himself playing ska on les pauls. If you know ska stuff i would be very thankful to you if you do some ska rhythms.
Nice sound. I wonder why no one records himself playing ska on les pauls. If you know ska stuff i would be very thankful to you if you do some ska rhythms.
@BluesZep Hey, you're really good at getting awesome tones out of your guitar and Peavey. Would you be able to give me any advice as to producing a Santana-esque tone?
No, but they're close, and great for the price...try some of Seymour duncan's PAF copies or Dimarzio's PAF, the seymour duncan Pearly Gates is a hot PAF. with the mids boosted a bit
Burstbuckers sort of go for the 59' sound right...so they would be hotter and bitier. 57's Classics would have nicer cleans. Could be wrong though. Ive played both, thats my assesment
Hey..i'm a noobie blues player (6months) and need some help. I really like your playing. I only know the dorian mode, mixylodian mode, and the major pentatonic and major scale. Are the little lick things ur playing just made up stuff or are they part of a scale? if you improvised that..man im blown away. Please help me
Usually when a song is made it is based around a scale, and all of the notes will be a part of that scale. The scale has to correspond with the chords that the song uses in order to sound right. Once you get used to the scales then improvising becomes a lot easier because any note that you play will sound correct as long as it is a part of the scale. The bluesy feel on the other hand comes from the offbeat rhythm.
It all really comes from one scale or asnother and then gets translated up and down the fretboard. I would imagine this is mainly improv, probably over the blues scale or minor pentatonic.
Try to incorporate the major pentatonic scale dude. You know the Gimme three steps lick right?? Play the blues using that scale when the chord progression goes to the 4 chord.
Yes, you know the blues, I am enjoying all of your videos. Try playing the blues with the backing track to ZZ top's Blue jean blues . The two of you will be a good match. Tim
Great video yet again Zep! Had to favourite this one. I love the way you breathe in and pause before a big lick comes bursting out, great style and feeling the music. I have a question, have you had professional lessons or are you self taught or a mixture. Yours is exactly the style i want to achieve eventually so any input into how you reached the point you are at would be great, Thanks
Thanks so much for the kind words! I only had lessons to learn acoustic guitar, when I was 10 (20 yrs ago). Now I listen a lot of music, and try to incorporate some to my playing. Cheers!
Hey man love your setup! Ive got the same guitar, and Im getting those same pickups very soon! The only difference is that Ive got a Marshall solid state amp :) I was wondering if you remembered what your settings on your amp were when you did this video?
Oh, sorry, and also do you have a 57 classic plus in the bridge or just a pair of regular 57's? Which do you think wold be a better setup? btw I love you style, its just like my bands! Im gonna show my bandmates this! :)
I have got 2 questions for you: 1) How do the 57s sound with a lot of gain/distortion? 2)Are they warmer or brighter or balanced pretty good? (It's kind of hard to tell exactly on a youtube video). I ask because I have an Epi LP too, but was considering getting a 57 in the neck and a Burstbucker Pro w/ V magnets at the bridge, but wondered if the 57s could handle all styles well (or just vintage sound). Anyway, good playin, man.
hello, I'll give my opinion: 1) They sound pretty good with distortion, but I've never tried "a lot of". The max distortion I've tried with this pickups was something like boss DS-1 full of gain. And sounded balanced and clear. 2) If I have to choose one of these adjectives, I'd say balanced. They are warm, but still has a clear sound (hard to explain hehe). I'm not a big fan of Alnico V pickups, that's the case of BB Pro, just because they have sharp trebles.
Thanks, man. This really helps actually, especially since I am the only guitar player in my little backwoods town and have no one to really ask about this kind of stuff. I had read they were good in a musician's friend review, but wanted a different opinion. Thanks, again. Oh, and is that Peavey a tube amp?
Your sense of when to play and when not to are pro level. Keep at it, getting cleaner all the time. I'm a performer and looking forward to more of your blues stuff. Very well done.
Man i need a tube amp for this kind of tone for lovley blues! but i can only afford solid state amps :( cant wait til i can get a job even then itl take almost 4 months to get a decent marshall tube amp ...life sucks.
on the other hand AWSOME PLAYING! i felt that so much man nothin beats the blues
Try out a hybrid. It's much more budget friendly and they have all the best qualities of both tube and digital.
I own a Marshall AVT50 which is a fantastic amp, I bring it everywhere. I always bring it to guitar center becuase I can't find an amp that sounds as good as it, besides the big tube Marshall stacks and such, but they're never plugged in. Anyways it has such a great clean drive and it can get dirty! I bought it over a Fender Deville
i have an AVT50 as well...its very portable and great tone..i use it mainly for band pratice and going to jams when i dont feel like hauling around a head and a cab or a 75 pound fender twin reverb
Haha small enough for the room, loud enough for the gig I always say. It doesn't sound like it's a 50 watt, i was really surprised that it was louder than a marshall full stack solid state.
wrong snakemonkeyforlife...those freaking viagra and cialis reps snagged blues tracks and tainted them...hopefully not for life...it should be illegal in all 50 states, hell internationally for drug companies to use any one genre of music to sell their products...thank the Lord in heaven it wasn't for VD products
@snakemonkeyforlife Thats because the commercial uses "Stormy Monday" by The Allman Brothers, and this sounds just like it, probably a Stormy Monday backing track
could you maybe send me some tabs for blues riffs when i play blues i just do different things and when i finally get something good i just play it over and over and over until i memorize it haha
I play for about a year self-taught guitar now. I also especially play blues, but im not even near your smoothness and tone. You definatly got the blues 8-)
i've got a squier (no money) stratocaster but i'm looking for a gibson now...! but, if i buy an epiphone and change the pickups with gibson pickups does it worth to do?

I've already got a Line 6 Spider II ready and everything setup I might go switch it for a Spider III though.
I'm using pentatonic scale and blue notes, like jgstrat82 said. I think you can play along wit a backing track and practice, using this scale. Try to use all notes, and feel which ones sound better over each chord. If possible, record the takes. Practice day-by-day and you'll hear your improvement.
okay thanks cause i went to the music store and asked for a honeyburst and he showed me one and it looked really gold-ish and it was the translucent amber one. guess the guy didnt know his stuff! thanks man :) im getting the same one.
very nice man can i ask wat settings you got ure amp set at, the other guitarist in my band has that guitar have u changed the pickups or did they cum wiv the guitar
Really good. Nicely off the beat; squeezing good; ok, maybe a bit more vibrato but that's largely a matter of taste; changes in tonal ambience good too. I think you need to 'answer' the backing a bit more flexibly rather than being up front all the time.
But all in all, look, you got the blues. Which is what matters.
Thanks! I apreciated too much your comments, and I'll try to "talk" with the other instruments. I know I need to improve my playing. Thanks a lot, your comments are welcome!

I'm using pentatonic scale and blue notes, like jgstrat82 said. I think you can play along wit a backing track and practice, using this scale. Try to use all notes, and feel which ones sound better over each chord. If possible, record the takes. Practice day-by-day and you'll hear your improvement.

Hi Dave, thank you so much!
