It's a series of scenes and images from around the world that explore various aspects of the human condition - religion, technology, war, poverty, and so forth. There's really nothing to compare it to. If you get a chance, you should check it out; I highly recommend it.

There is a new Baraka coming out in 2009! it was also filmed in the same Super High definition 70mm film, know as Todd-AO, it's actually 65mm film and 5mm is for the sound track, this will be a master piece like the first Baraka for sure.

For me baraka shows the contrast between nature and culture, making a question: where we are going? Are we really happy because of technological progress? The movie is full of scenes that You can compare with others, like the scene with chickens and scene with people in a undeground station.

i love this movie. we watched it in my philosophy class and it kept my attnention the entire time. the natural sites and all of the first half was amazing, and it was unbelievable how it showed how bad the poverty was. it was a good movie, i really enjoyed it.. it made a good discusion too hah.

To me it represents the destructive powers of post-industrial western society and the sheer beauty in "uncivilized" or tribal peoples of the world. Are we progressing with our technology? Some of the parts of the movie are quite long, that's true. But it is made with a purpose to show the long neverending repeated process.

Anyway, i advise to watch this movie again and better not late in the evening when you are tired. Really, i know many people who watched it several times and at the beginning they didn't really "taste" it.
