Selänne is better than Kurri... Kurri played with Gretzky for many years so yeah surprise surprise he got many points just like Messier... Hockey was way different back then than it is now, Kurri would have no chance against Selänne today, very few people get over 100 point seasons today.
I can't say Kurri is the greatest finn, I've been a big fan of teemu selanne for years so I'd be tossed up there. As far as who made who you can't say either or. Gretzky's amazing passes gave Kurri great chances, but if Kurri couldn't finish how many assists do you take from Gretzky? They complimented each other like any passer, sniper duo. Look at Lemieux and Jagr. Backstrom and Ovechkin, and there are so many more you could use.
Following Gretzky's trade to Los Angeles in 1988, Kurri recorded 195 points in 154 games, leading the Oilers to their fifth and, to date, final Stanley Cup in 1990.
I ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT ALL OF THE OTHER OILERS WOULD HAVE BEEN WITHOUT GRETZ. KURRI, LOWE, ANDERSON, MESSIER ALL HOF'S . WHAT IF THEY BEGAN THEIR CAREERS WITH HARTFORD OR ST LOUIS ? GRETZKY ROSE THE STOCK OFF ALL PLAYERS AROUND HIM. LOOK AT NICHOLS WENT FROM A 40 GOAL SCORER TO MID 70S WHEN GRETZ CAME TO LA. TALL SHIP RISE ALL TIDES.....
Застал его игру уже под конец карьеры когда он играл в Анахайме но даже по этим играм было видно что это супер звезда.Время его конечно было в 80-х годах ... далее в финском списке наверное идут Селяне и Койву )))
Jari Kurri benefited greatly from Gretzky. Thats unquestionable. YOu can argue that Kurri helped Gretzky aswell. They worked well together but Kurri wasnt irreplaceable or anything. There were lots of wingers in the league at that time that could have played with Wayne and scored atleast as much as Kurri. Whereas, you couldnt replace Gretzky. He was the catalyst. He could outscore Kurri by 70 points. Thats insane to outscore your linemate by 70 points. Kurri is pretty overrated.
@tjcurrie Kurri is overrated?! Hah, he's underrated because he played with the Great One and was mostly left in his shadow. There's no one who could have been there for Gretzky like Kurri, they had that special chemistry between them.
@okihama Come on now. Sure they had chemistry but a lot of players have chemistry. Doesnt mean greatness. Other wingers could have easily played alongside Gretzky and had atleast the same success. Gretzky was the catalyzt. Kurri's overrated because what would his numbers look like without Gretzky ? Its as simple as that. He gets far more attention because of the team he played for and who he played with. He's wasn't a guy you start your team with. He wasn't a guy who was great no matter what.
@timomastosalo Actually Mark Messier played on the left side and was a 50 goals scorer and a 1st Team All Star. But the difference is Messier is a 2x Hart Trophy winner, a Conn Smythe winner, and just inargyably a better player than Kurri. Even Gretzky says so. Dave Lumley, yes DAVE LUMLEY was put on the line in the arly 80s and went on a 12 game goal scoring streak. Dave Semenko played left wing on that line aswell. So what do you want me to admit, that Kurri's better than Semenko ? Okay he is.
@timomastosalo When Gretzky went to L.A., Berne Nicholls went from a 75 point season, to a 70 goal 150 point season. Coincedence ? Oops, no. Gretzky and Kurri had chemistry. And Kurri was responsible defensively ( for that era ) so of course they were put out there shorthanded. What does that prove ? Esa Tikkanen killed penalties too. Kurri was a real good player but NO, he wouldnt have 600 goals without Gretzky. Thats FACT. He would have been a consistent 35 to 45 goal guy. Not a 50-70.
Love You So Much Jari Kurri. You Are My Favorite Hockey Player Since I Show You Skate With The Oilers In Your Younger Yrs. You Are So So So HOT. . . . Love You So Much Jari ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Ever watch a Gretzky-Kurri one timer? No? Go get educated. ;)
As a punk kid growing up in Edmonton, we celebrated as soon as those two crossed the blue line. Haha.

@tjcurrie And at the same period in the left wing Gretzky had a team mate scoring like Kurri... Oops, no.
And when short handed the coach preferred to pick some other forward with Gretzky than Kurri... Oops, no.
-Gretzky is the Great One, period. But Kurri is one of the all time Hall of Fames as well, crossed the 600 goals line.
-just because of Gretzky?!?!

I didn't know he played for NY Rangers, Anaheim Might Ducks and Colorado Avalanche. Nothing against Teemu Selanne but I'll take Jari Kurri.

Gretzky would have been great no matter what, but with Kurri they were both awesome.
It often looked like Kurri and Gretzky were sharing the same brain.
Nice to see a tribute to Jari even if there was no action.
