nah, you're the one who doesn't know mandarin at all. taiwanese mandarin and mainland mandarin are the same, it is just accent and writing styles that slightly differ, just like british english and american english. and canto is totally different from mandarin. even if you master mandarin, you won't understand cantonese unless you learn the language.
