  • Thank god for the gods of falsetto Frankie Valli, Lou Christie, Brian Wilson, Bob Flanagan, and Smokey Robinson. Lou Christie was so good too.

  • go see Jersey boys then decide

  • What an amazing voice. I always preferred Lou Christie's falsetto over Frankie Valli's. Better songs, too, IMHO.

  • loved this song when it came out waaay back when...Right up there with Lightening Strikes and Two Faces Have I. Happy memories thanks Lou!

  • if you like this check out ( crying by rocky hart & the passions ) both class !

  • who are those silly sounding ladies in the background?? They actually sing beautifully!! Are they early muppets??

  • this is the first time I have ever heard this song. I read a reference to it by Dave Marsh(Rolling Stone) and had to check it out.

  • Lou you should at least give Milan aka Rick Rodell ,some credit .He wrote i t and you used it.His Birthday is on the 15th of dec and I can show you the BMI,EMI commission sheet.

  • Get tickets to a play and ask her to go with you. Treat her like a friend and if there is any spark she will let you know by her actions toward you. Good luck.

  • as anybody got lou christie singing ;why do fools fall in love.?-ive got it on 45rmp but bit scratched,would like better recording if someone has it ,thx

  • I don't need a fortune teller to tell me this is a fantastic song.

  • TWIYA AT HER BEST OF COURSE BIG LOU TOO BUT HE IS A GIVEN LOVE THAT BURG MAN GINNYLYNN SORRY ALWAYS TROUBLE SPELLING HER NAME MUST BE THE ROM IN ME

  • Hot stuff

  • the gypsy crying would be disconcerting...the fortune tellers usually try to please their customers so they will come back...very original idea for a song and a classic for the ages..

  • awesome

  • love this song, great quality! thank you!

  • Is it possible to on the one hand like Eric B and Rakim's "I Ain't No Joke" and on the other hand like Lou Christie's "The Gypsy Cried"?...Yep!!!

  • hell this beats any of this crap thats out these days...

  • Yes! And thank God for the unions/OSHA that put all the steel mills, car manufacturing and other businesses out of business. They replaced them with more dignified, much higher paying government or teaching jobs that required much less effort or intelligence. Millions owe their luxurious lives and easy money/benefits to those early union leaders and leaders in government to make our country so much better. And no smoke/injuries.The drug problem that arose because of it was just collateral damage

  • @MrJoeyBoombotz What?

  • I've never heard anyone question if Lou's falsetto was the best recorded falsetto of all time. Most people seem to think Lou's, then Del Shannon's and then Frankie Valli's was the order in terms of range and timbre. But everyone has their own opinion. Frankie needed male backup singers to support his on most of his songs. I just wished he would have recorded more and done more with Italian arias/folk tunes and Sinatra type stuff. The medley he did with Lesley Gore was great too.

  • Lou Christie - one of my favorites.

  • The best falsetto of all time, singer/song songwriter, excellent live performer and most underrated talent in all of Rock and Roll. His hits were the background music of my growing up in Aliquippa and Ambridge, PA. I was always very proud of him and his success. Too bad the area never really recognized him and his contributions to music. I remember in February of 1966 when Lightning Strikes passed up "Sounds of Silence" for #1. Thanks for the memories Lou and Twyla!!!

  • @MrJoeyBoombotz says: The best falsetto of all time

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Better than Frankie Valli?
  • @MrJoeyBoombotz Hey Joey!! Badda Bing Badda Boom! Yeah..., Lou baby has some great chops, this song and especially Lighting Strikes really stand out in my mind from those times too! Yahh, dose times back in East Liberty were pretty good, having an Iron City at the tavern after working down at the plant. Pittsburgh was a lot smokier an dirty back then, but everybody was making money, jobs were plentiful and we were still building America!
  • Great memories!!!!!  happy 2011
  • lou was the best of all fallsetto in my opinion
  • What a great falsetto voice. Love all his songs..Thanks for posting...
  • This song has tremendous emotional pull.
    I hear punk, ska and damn good rock and roll.
  • OMG!!!! This is soooo good!!!
  • Not only a great voice, but probably the best-looking male singer ever!
  • Very cool song.......................
  • Still loving it! Thank you
  • Man. You know it's gotta be bad when the Gypsy cries. =P
  • On oldie but greatie... I loved this music.
  • @Durbin1977 Well, I guess I'm old fashioned in a way. Janis Joplin was far from being my type, and Lesley Gore was the type of girl I would take home to meet my mom and dad.
  • @Buckpenn Oh, I got ya!
  • Everytime I play an oldie on here, someone comments that it 'beats" rap. Music is not a race.
    One can like Lou Christie and Lil Wayne, Neil Sedaka and Jason Derulo.
    Music is universal. It's immortal...if it speaks to you,play it.
  • @Durbin1977 I agree music is not a race but I can't like rap... it is for the musically impaired.
  • Why is he not in the R&R Hallof Fame?
  • @hajune
    Because they want pop bands! They overlook these good bands such as Lou Christie, Procol Harum, and The Fleetwoods to name a few!
  • @hajune
    Because it is the Hall Of Shame!! Neil Sedaka and the Moody Blues both of whom are going strong after all these years aren't in the Hall Of Shame either.
  • @hajune site says him and neil to bubble gum i think its the record companys and how much money you make em now no hits no money neils people have a petion going i signed it being from the burg area big lou has always been important to us surprised GOD BLESS BIG LOU FOR A 68 YEAR OLD HE HAS A BETTER VOICE THAN WHEN HE STARTED stronger better range plus he puts the meaning into the song probably cause he lived it HE STILL HAS THOSE MOVES TO THOU THE KICK ISNT AS HIGH LOVE YA BIG LOUAND TWALA
  • This music has soul, passion, spirit and undoubtly love. Beats all trash thrown at us today. And thats' a fact
  • It's one of my favorites. If I owned an oldies station, I would be playing a lot of this one. Also my station would be all Lesley Gore and no Janis Joplin.
  • @Buckpenn
    No Janis? why?????
  • How gorgeous were you..and also now. Love your music.
  • Having turned 13 in 1962 I really started to enjoy rock-n-roll. Nothing like a transistor radio with a fresh battery in it, laying on your bed looking up at the ceiling and singing along with this song. That was until Dad came in the room and told me to turn "that crap" down!!
  • @CALI25359 I fully agree.
  • Justin Timberlake has nothing on Lou C when it comes to hitting those extremely high notes!!
  • This is just good stuff!
  • This sure the hell beats rap !
  • it's called crap!
  • @kevman77
    Your hearing and soul for music is awful....But hey, only an opinion right? Enjoy the synthetic shitty beats and caveman lyrics of rap then...
  • @kevman77 a million record buyers disagreed with you.
  • @fuzzypaws17 You bet!!! Rap sucks!!!
  • @fuzzypaws17 no it doesn't. ur moms butt hole does.
  • @skatskat1213 hahaha
  • @fuzzypaws17 thats true. Rap is CRAP
  • One of my favourite songs. It's simply beautiful!!!!
    Carmen
    (Presenter of the 'Doo Wop Corner' radio show in South Australia)
  • Here's what you say to her, " Listen, sister, I'm the best thing that will EVER happen to you. So, either go out with me or spend the rest of your life wondering what might have been!! You've got 5 seconds to make up your mind or I am out of here. " That should do it.
  • hey tony i gotta meet john down at the restaurant!
  • lol this kind of music just puts you into a good mood!
  • Love this man. Their will never be another Lou. What a hunk.
  • heah thegkk2----part of being a man is rejection.if she feels the same she'll tell you.i set on my roof and watch the stars/sattalites.the best cure is be honest and have some confidence.
  • Don't go to sleep, knock on the door right now, She won't bite, and it's like more personal, than a cell, A Card will work! But you gotta sign it.
  • my song and i'm only 17 years old because this song is so good it beats all of the new hip hop trash that we have so this is why i listen to oldies oh and because i love a girl in my drama class and i dont know how to ask her out and i really love i get ontop of my house at midnight and watch the stars and think of her so please messege me for advise
  • Ask her before someone else does. There is nothing worse than waiting and being too late, even rejection is better than wondering if all along she might have gone with you instead if you had just asked. At least she will know you're interested and she might change her mind someday when she realizes how special it is to have someone so devoted. Then again...she might say yes!!! So either way, tell her how you feel. Girls love to feel loved.
  • @dwynpiper I agree,although I still hate to be rejected at 37!
  • @thegkk2 sometimes being shy is a curse or it can be a gift.it depends on what the person you dote on see's it as.if you don't at least try she and you will never know.
  • @thegkk2 I was shy, too - sometimes still am. Answer: Screw up your courage tightly and just go talk to her. If conversation flows, she's interested too. If it's awkward, be polite and back away. At least you'll know if there's a chance or not.
    I'm 62 and it's not any easier - you just have to be brave for a minute or so. After that, it flows (or not).
    God bless you and good luck!
  • @thegkk2 Just be forward and honest and ask her out before someone else does. Good luck.
  • @thegkk2 more will come will your way , i promise you !!! it will be tuff , but you will find another , that you love more , i know !! erik Von
  • I hadn't heard this gem in decades until it was featured on an episode of the Sopranos. It was playing on Phil Leotardo's car radio when Tony ran him off the road!
  • awesome song... takes me back to '64... and what???????
  • When this song came-out, it gave me goosebumps, I loved it so much. I think the needle went clear through the 45 RPM Record, I played it so much!!!
  • Another great song and artist-thanks so much!
  • When Paul McCartney visited the gypsy - before marrying Heather Mills - the gypsy cried. Unfortunately, for Paul, he didn't take the hint.
  • TOO funny, but true . . .
