Corvette is a different kettle of fish. This is simply a sports sedan that carries 5 adults with ease, can be used as a daily driver or a weekend track weapon.
The thing I liked about this review is the guy actually gets the cars origins right. It is designed & built by Holden in Australia. Not Pontiac, as some other people have claimed. Pontiac had nothing to do with it except for demanding it. Tip of the cap to him for giving the plaudits to those who deserve it.
ok ok ok ok everyone knows its from Australia, we "yanks" don't need every single comment to be saying how this car is really just a holden, built in australia that the US stole from us, WAH!!!!!!!! stop crying like babies and learn to share a good car!!!!!!!!
@gtocarguy It's got sweet fuck all to do with crying about us having to share it. What pisses us off is when Americans try to claim it as theirs. As if they were the ones that spent the 1 billion dollars on the clean sheet designs, the Zeta architecture & general platform for all models.
Give the credit to Holden & Australia & there are no issues. Keep calling it "the best car ever made by Pontiac" & we'll keep reminding you who is repsonsible for it & where it came from.
@hsvsv8 ok yeah but did I say anything about that being an "all american car and the best from pontiac" all i said was that you aussies are annoying "reminding us" in every comment that it was all you who made the car and you and only you should have the credit
@gtocarguy Well Holden alone deserves the credit. We all know the engine is American, but we've been getting the Chev V8 since the series 2 VT in 98/99, so it's hardly been a new power plant for us. Holden owes GM its start, because without GM, they wouldn't exist.
But GM did not have the final say on this car like in the past. GM wanted to do a global platform & Holden already had the designs, tools & money to do it. I give GM credit for Holden, but not for the Pontiac G8.
It's strange you Yankees get a 6.2L 415hp version of it, in Australia (where it is built) you can only get a 360hp 6.0L one. If you want a 6.2L you have to upgrade to a HSV and that's gonna cost ya!
i have a 6.0 Trailblazer SS the computer says that I average 12.6 MPG the gas needle appears to tell me that I average like 2 miles to a gallon. And the truck is tuned perfect. i would like to know how this dude with a 6.duce gets 18MPG. i hope i get that when i buy one i am expecting like maybe 1 mile to a gallon.
The yanks would shit themselves if they got their hands on our F6 Typhoons. Whats the deal with the small wheels and shitty front bumpers? Havnt they seen pics of our SS and HSV's? Iv even seen one highway patrol in nsw with the factory 20's.
@MrSardine23 They're the 18's that were available in 2009. 3 years ago. The same wheels that are available on the Redline edition Commodore sedan, wagon & ute. Holden doing what they can to dump the excess left over from Pontiac being scrapped.
The 18's are too small for those wheel arches. Glad my 2011 SS ute came with the 20" HSVi 'Fluxus' wheels. :)
Also, Ford US won't import the F6. It'd be too much to handle for GM & Ford being shown by Aussies how to build real performance cars. haha
@streetracer44870 Acording to motor trend it is coming back as a chevy just not an Impala. They are already making police interceptors here in the U.S. badged as the chevy caprice. but whether the version offered to the public will be named the caprice or not no one knows. I would like to see a coupe version as well and bring back the monte carlo nameplate but I doubt they will do that.
Great looking car. Sad to see Pontiac gone even though sales were good. This and the 300c are great looking. The gas mileage he got was funny as MotorWeek got 22mpg on the SLP version with 500hp. Either way pity to see it go , now I guess they'll use the Holden for the Impala . I don't remember the SLP up here in Canada, only 500 made.
This is truly a master piece from Pontiac, no matter where its tuned or put together, at the end its still GM and I can easily say this is one of the best ever car GM has put in Pontiac lineup. Too bad to see Pontiac fading out.
Its all the buick divsions fault, that friggin division hadnt built anything anyone wanted since the Gran National and GNX. Ever since then Buick ran out of ideas and made it its mission to scavenge everything good from all the other divisions that were actually building something people wanted. The Oldsmobile Aurora? No sooner that Oldsmobile started making a profit Buick made sure to shut down Olds. Pontiac, no sooner they had a decent car, Buick scavenged them. Fuck buick.
@ThunderAppeal@ThunderAppeal I can feel what you are saying.. Even though I never owned an Olds, they actually have some good cars that have a stance on the road. I never saw any individual identity for Buick except copying from other divisons of GM and put some different face to them, but I really think that GM wants to hold on to it as it is their best selling brands in their fast growing Chinese market. IMO its the same with Saturn too.
@alfistasubbie Yeah, that seems to be all its boiling down to, throw out all the other divisions that have actually built something worthwhile. But keep buick because its a chinese best seller. Meanwhile in America no one wants it because, as you appropriately said, buick has no identity. Oldsmobile could have been used to go up against Acura/Honda, Nissian/Infiniti, etc. Pontiac would have been the performance division, Cadillac the luxury division (obviously), Chevrolet up against volvo
The reason why that car is so good is because it is the Australian Holden commodore ss with a different bumper bonet and badges. yeah like the guy below said if you want a nice car when the G8 is gone import a holden commodore SS.
That interrior sound was nice. That stinks they killed it off. Pontiac could have focused on the G8 and a Trans Am... and maybe the G6 rental car for a while... but focusing on the G8 and T/A would have made them a nitch market like hummer but alot more practical and fun to drive w/o stopping for gas every 200 miles. I think they offered a smaller V8 with reasonable MPGs aswell (1996 Caprice with the LT1 5.7L V8 got mid to upper 20s on the highway- sure a new car could do that)
he said the price was $38,000,what the fuck, this car comes from australia ,where i live and this would be badged as the HSV (Holden special vehicles) SS and they sell for around 45,000 or abit more,at the moment our aussi dollar is very strong i think it's 95 cents to the u.s dollar,so with the cost of transporting it to the u.s it is still cheaper, fuck we get ripped off down under.
Too Bad we do'nt send America these cars anymore. I work at the factory in Australia that builds them, we love our Commodore SS, Which is basically a RHD G8 GT
@JaayDogg010@JaayDogg010 Indeed. I dont know what the hell happened with American car makers, ever since they transfered all of their passenger car manufacturing capacity to front wheel drive, GM had its head firmly stuck up its own ass.
USA have built many , many great cars , some of the best ever classics . aA ot of so called aussie cars have always been based on American and European cars . no doubt this is built in Australia , and mostly designed as a GM global product . SO we should enjoy it and do burnouts !!!!!
@ro9beam2002 im looking to trade my 06 mustang gt for this or a g8 gt. my question to you sir is, is this car an auto like the gt with the step troninc mode?? have you modded the car and how many cars are you smoking with it??..lol. thanks man.
@ro9beam2002 You actually have a 09.5. The G8 GXP along with other late year 09's were set to be 2010's.......unfortunately GM axed Pontiac, so they called em 09.5's.
Do u Aussies considered this a Corvette sedan?

Actually buick could have been used to go up against volvo and subaru, because those are also cars that lack identity. Chevrolet the every mans car.
But buick will find a way to destroy GM itself entirely, which it very likely has a role in up to this point.
