Best time to visit Athens is in the spring, March-June. It does get hotter than hell in the summer. Been there in August and it was pretty intense. Dry heat, but near 100 Farenheit. Too hot for me!
Brings back memories--Athens is a fascinating complex and very ancient city BUT for those who really want to explore get those walking shoes on! And learn to use the trains and buses/trams.
I really enjoyed my time in Athens, stayed there only for two and a half days but it was such a time. Greek people are so nice. Thanks to all of them for the wonderful vacation time I spent there.
My uni is very, VERY close to that fountain and weird black building. What he showed you and told you is the American Embassy is actually a place for concerts etc. the embassy is the one right before it. :) Oh and zicco thats not true, you probably mean the fact that in the center of Athens not all cars are allowed. They are allowed on shifts depending on their number plate (multiples of 1 or 2)
It can go well into the forties and stay up there for days. But the climate is almost desert--like with very little humidity. God, it's such an amazing country!
All through the year, cars with licensing ending in an even no. drive on even days Odd numbers on odd days. The njew subway system has really improved the traffic situation.

Dumbass cab driver. That's not the American Embassy. It's the Megaron Moussikis (concert hall). The US embassy was before it.
