may i suggest to polish the surface of the disks? if the turbolence gets completely developed (go look for the Moody diagram), then the bonduary layer won't form and the effect will be much less effective. When the surface is smooth instead you can have a bonduary layer with higher gas speed, leading to a better effect.
Ther are quite a few methods for polishing, choose the one you like the best.
These are polished stainless 1mm disks with polished aluminum disks x4 for non-driven areas at edge. This is a starting point for universities to further re-machine and experiment with as a physical example of the basic principle. If taken to a production level the cost would be counter to getting them built and out there marking the concept of Tesla for another 100+ years.
