  • if you just have to compare lenny to warne i would say there are times lenny has more warmth and feeling, more soul. warne is more like mozart lennie like schuman or schubert

    thanks for posting this

  • This is some great Lenny here. Be sure to look for the albums Falling Free and New York Moment.

    But yeah...

Warne was otherworldly. Never will be another Warne. He took Lennie Tristano and lifted it off the ground, made it dance.

Popkin makes the Tristano concept dance too.

There's another Duc Des Lombards video that has a short clip of Popkin improvising over I Can't Believe You're in Love With Me. Brilliant stuff

  • could you post a link to that video please?

  • Dig Popkin ♫♫♫♫♫

  • Carol lays down a nice pocket. Lennie was definitely influenced by Warne Marsh more than anyone else, his tone and contours almost indentical, but he just can't string the stretches together as coherently or masterfully as Warne, not that anyone else ever could. Warne was unique amongst improvisors, without peers, even transcending lennie tristano himself.

  • It's great to have Lenny on Youtube. He certainly is one of my top favourites. His sound, his line... just great. Thank you for this.
