THIS IS THE BEST SUSPENSE MUSIC I HAVE EVER HEARD THIS REALLY MADE THE CHASE SCENE WHAT IT WAS DURING THE SHOOT. WITHOUT MUSIC MOVIES WOULD NOT HAVE ANY EMOTION AT ALL. STEVE MCQUEEN DRIVES THIS SCENE ALONG WITH BILL HICKMAN IN THE CHARGER. BILL HICKMAN WAS A HOLLYWOOD STUNTMAN THAT DID GENE HACKMAN'S CHASE SCENE DRIVING IN THE FRENCH CONNECTION.

My Charger R/T was copper color.That Mustang does not have the ass to keep up with the Charger, but this is Hollywood. No dub sound for the black car, All real Chrysler Charger. Awesome.

@BL80488 Top speed of that Charger with 3.23 gears was 145mph roughly. The 320hp Mustang was not capable in top end or 1/4 mile times. Read..or better yet own these cars and maybe u will know.

As for a drag why dont you try the Mustang GT with the 428 vs The Charger 440 and see what would happen.... Dodge made shitty cars in the 60s and even the cars dodge make today suck..... Mopars are slow cars.......

@BL80488 You were talking about the 390 motor, maybe my crystal ball was clouded that day. And secondly the 428 Cobra Jet model was available as a 1968 !/2 option.Now, if u want to get ticky, lets put a 440 SixPack !969 1/2 Super Bee or Road Runner in the mix and these "barges " will smoke the 428. in the 1/4 mile. You need to get versed alot.

@68bobba Look up the times you dipshit and FYI Ford was notorious for understating the power of their engines in the 1960s to keep the insurance costs down. when they dynoed a all original 428 it put out around 430bhp.. Dodge on the other hand didnt understate their power. the 426 hemi really did make 426 bhp and the 440 really made 375bhp. The mustang was lighter, had better handling, looked better, and wasnt the size of a bus.

The charger wasn't even trying. Listen @ 6:49 & 8:59, meanwhile the mustang is screaming to keep up.

The 440 was a beast engine, even for a wedge-block. 6:08 is definitely my favorite part.

The charger's also got a bigger engine, more torque, and a hell of a lot more power. but that goes without saying....and I was referencing the part when it burned out in front of the station wagon up the hill.

I watched an interview months back with one of the senior stunt drivers from the film. While I honestly can't recall his name at the moment, he said two things which stood out. Firstly how pissed Steve McQ was at him after been pulled off the driving himself when he crashed the Mustang early in filming, and secondly when asked what was the better car - Mustang or Charger, he gave a wry grin and said "easy - the Charger".

This car scene is easily one of the best ever. Thanks for the upload.
