Funny... i have the newer version of this - 9800M GTS but the proc is dual core at 2.23GHz with 4gb DDR3 and an awesome 300GB HD (sarcasm)

they upgraded the video card+RAM, down graded the proc and HD.

I want to see a dissasembly video because i need to figure out if i can upgrade my POS Proc.

it also runs hot like a hot plate.

This is an overpriced laptop. Best Buy has had it on their catalog for over a year and the price has only dropped from $1149 to $1089. It should be like $700 now but I see why it costs 1+ grand, cause of its nice performance.

well, no, but I have a ps3 as well for blue ray discs, and the general digital world doesn't in the least bit demand a blue ray player, so I hope you don't base your laptop minimum standards at a point where blue ray HAS TO BE in them.

Having a blue ray player is nice, but it's not needed at all for most digital things, but there are also die hard people out there who would like the most high end laptop components in a their laptop just so their laptop capabilities are much higher than what they need, so in conclusion; do some research on blue ray and find out for yourself if you actually NEED it for what you will be doing on your desired laptop.

well, you can read my previous comments, but I did slight research on the dell you are talking about, they are both great computers, but the dell has 500gb compared to the p7811's 176 or so, but the p 7811 also has an nvidia 9800 video card as compared to the ati one in the dell. It all really depends on what you're going to use a laptop for. I got my p7811 for gaming and video editing (with an external hard drive) and it has met all my needs and then some, so get whatever's best for your needs.

this is the sickest laptop, although at 1920x1200 you arent going to get super good frames with higher res's like its native. but the non XL just the X edition has 1440x900 which is alot smaller but is suiting for the screen also you will be able to play most games at good frames on higher settings

either way gateway did a fantastic job, although red or blue would have been more prefered over orange

I have the same version of this laptop and the CPU fan almost never turns on. Only when I'm encoding video. I can have this on my laptop an the only spot that would be hot on the bottom is where the hard drives are. And the heat blast out the side from the gpu, but it does not run all too hot unless you're in a non air conditioned house like my friend's.

He doesn't mention the weight though. It probably weighs like 8 pounds. With 2 hard drives, 17'' monitor and video card, it's gonna weigh a lot.

I love how he calls it a Gigabit LAN port and how he emphasized the modem. Pretty much every computer made since 2002 has both of those things.
