Dubai is like a modern day slave market. The rich living off the misery of the poor. If you visit there you may as well be a slave master as that is where your money is going. Have some morals and decency and boycott the place. And yes when I say slavery I mean SLAVERY! Disgusting evil place, full of the most disgusting excuses for humanbeings you will ever come across.
I love Dubai...tried to live in 3 other countries n hated it. The uae is kick ass n dubai is a great city. It has its flaws but all other cities in the world do too.. I think ppl should mind their own business n take care of their own bloody cities.
DONT live in Dubai! trust me and believe me, its the worst place i had ever lived in my life.many arabs there are "messed up" and i guarentee you anyone who lived there and got away will say that they'd perfer to live in europe. again, dont, even if your pay is amazingly high.
@KWalsh554 … Dubai is not just a city, but an Emirate … or a Kingdom …a precursor of a modern state or a country. UAE is political union of these states each with it's own laws etc … more integrated than EU but less integrated than US imo. Stop confusing people.
are you living in the same dubai as me... im not to fond of the place either, but this little documentary has the most pessimistic tone. Liven up a little mate...
My friends live there because its cheap and they pay not taxes, but as in most countries don't have any connection with the rest of the people. You mingle with people of your status or social background. Noone would like to leave their country for any other reason than holidays, business or survival. And that is what they do in Dubai too. You go for a reason, not for the place. If you like the place too, its even better. I couldn't stand the heat, sand and in-out the A/c. They need more trees.
just bums hating cause they cant have it ,.. for real .. you should come to the USA and check out the plight of undocumented aliens form mexico and see how there treated watch FAST FOOD NATION...
Points well made, and seems to caputre the empty, vapid, fake beauty of the town.
Well done!! (the problem with Dubai is it started to believe its own press - an error that no one least of all a heavily marketed destination should do - after all the whole place is built on sand.....)
dubai is like a video game. the true reality is shown in this documentary. the actual people who work hard realise the reality. while the millionaire who did not work to earn such money lives in an artificial world.
This is a great documentary. It is shot without voice overs screaming at what you should look at. Radio stations d.j.'s voices provide a real feeling of the Dubai. The conversation of T.E. Lawrence (Peter O'Toole)and The Prince Feisal (Alec Guinness) is a great opening and sums it all up. Thanks for this film, and hope to see more.
I like the scene its social relevant. You have a point to show how reality is to be. The Picture perfect to the tourist and the other side of dubai how city that changes in time, its continious evolve follow the global warming. on how it would end.
"no place to work.." Get an education. Travel. Find Job. Dubai = Sim City. Perfect in every way. Now if only we can get people with distinct socialogical barriers to play nice with each other. Maybe in a generation or 2. Why don't you show the children who play with each other? Hmmmm....
in reality arabs have a severe inferiority complex, they pretend to be proud. When persians and indian subcontinet was a civilization they were drinking dirty water and living in filthy conditions.
this is so well done.. so well done. everything is thought out very very well. the screen shots, the sound, the lighting.. everything. thanks for sharing..
Sorry i have yet to see it fully coz internet is slow at work. Ill watch it at home later. I really like your shots. Lets work together one day!!! i like your focus on environment shots with voiceovers, thats the kinda filmwork i love.
Enjoyed your doc on Dubai. You did a great job of capturing the industrial environment--and of course the security guard interview was fantastic. I am a Canadian journalist, planning to go there at end of November for a month. Am interested in writing on the situation of workers in Dubai and wonder if you have any useful suggestions, either of contacts or strategies. Even better, perhaps we can meet up if you are still there?
(cont...) ...and honestly i used to think that dubai is full of shit..i mean the way of living here..their culture..the way they treat expats..especialy the ones who come from poor countries(like me)..in short, there is a huge percentage of discrimination here..and thats one reason why i did not like this place..
hello...im eljay..a 20 year old filipino working here in dubai(starbucks)...i came here when i was 18 years old...and ive seen the documentary that youve made..and if i could respectfuly give my opinion about it,i would have to say that..its ok...i mean .. youve captured some important views about the people working here..their feelings..the way they see dubai..and also the locals who are living here... UAE;
-be careful, sheik Issa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan might torture you. (google him)
-also, remember dubai was built on exploitive slavery
-only 12% is rich, the majority are in poverty in a class-based society
-local women are invisible behind ninja-suit burkas
-media censorship/ restrictions are over-the-top
-child-trafficking for jockey use is common
-job discrimintation based on ethnicity such as ''arabs only'' is normally written on newspapers.
