This tutorial sucks. These are all the faults I could find:

- sprites = objects. NOT TRUE. sprites are the graphical resources of the game.

- to make sprites you use the create sprite button..

- the audio of this entire video is corrupted and hard to understand.

- you should not encourage stealing graphics made by others

- you do not 'move' sprites. you move instances

- objects are resources for instances.

Well, im on 1/4 of you vid and already out of characters.. get my point?

Hey. Well, there is no correct answer to your question. Everything depends on game genre, game features and how good you are with GM. Learning is not a problem, there are tons of tutorials on the internet. I also wrote a few for overhead view shooter myself. I suggest you to give it a go, it's a great program to begin with.

Not a bad video, although would be better with more explanation of what you're showing :-D BTW, the objects are your characters themselves. The sprite is just the pretty little picture you give it. You can easily change the sprite using the draw event.

You can use objects for far more things as well, for instance as a life counter, or a level controller to let the game know when to advance to the next room. Check out my channel, I have an upcomming series of tutorials on the way :-D Thanks.

sprites are not the things that are moving in your game... they are representations of them. objects move. objects are seen by the use of sprites. sprites don't even do anything.

@44eelz In the 'Outside Room' event of the object you want to do this, put the action 'Wrap Screen' in the event, when it leaves the room, it will wrap in the directions that you specified. (This also works with the 'Intersect Boundary' event).

I'll help you:

1) get your character object screen up.

2) click the add event and go to collison, then click on your wall object.

3) on the r ight side of the screen there will be a list of things you can do. click and drag the red arrows in a cross shape to the actions column.

4) where it says directions, click on the centre square then press ok. After that, press ok on your object menu and try it out.

i don't know if you got help already, but if you didn't, just make a collision event in your wall or character, then put the move fixed action in, and click the middle box, and make the speed 0, not relative. If you have multiple characters and/or walls, you have to make a collision event for each of them between each character and wall. hope that helps!
