  • Thanks for sharing that mate:)

  • Dry mode IS cooling mode. The only difference is that the compressor doesn't stop cooling the air. Whereas in cooling mode, the thermostat is active and turns off the compressor when the room reaches a set temperature. In Dry mode, the compressor never stops.

  • You are awesome, arigatou gozaimasu!

  • I see it says 1.6/1.8 kW. That's about 6000 BTU/hr or about half a ton, which is how North American units are rated.

  • how hot it can get in japan ? it can 56 to 60 C in kuwait here...

  • Make sure that the compressor doesn't need to be oriented a certain way or the oil won't lubricate the motor and seize.

  • Thanks for the informative video! I've already been informed by *several* people where I will be living in Japan that it's already hot as all heck and just keeps climbing, so I was excited to see that it is possible to find and install a decently priced AC (compared to the wall units) fairly easily.

  • ok, so i live in arizona, had i wish i had the ability to purchase once of these units instead of the ones at homedepot. these look at alot better are what im looking for

  • thats was so good info wish there was more of you

  • hmm why was that thing so expensive? i bought a proper split style air conditioner with a huge-ass outdoor unit for my room for about 300 euros last summer...

  • how do you lock the door so no one can brake in

  • Great video man!

  • thanks for all the info dood

  • the trick is to buy the one with the most stickers..

  • at what temperature do you keep the house? For me 30ºC to 35ºC is ok, I just can't stand the cold..

  • @unchato wtf??? 30°C? you do realize that your ability to concentrate on something drops to about 20 % at such temperatures... 21 ° C is ideal

  • That air conditioned bed would be killer if it actually works.

  • that cool thank

  • Very, very informative! Thank you for all of these.

Man, you looked miserable at the outset of this video :(

  • @GimmeKitty Glad to help! Yea that was last year and now its just as hot again, but I got the bamboo shades going so its nice now in the shade. I defiantly like the heat better that the bitter cold Boston weather.....Cheers!

  • @toddatron Your video helped me confirm my suspicion that Japanese A/Cs can heat too:) I came across this video while trying to sell two clunker A/C's in Boston. Seems like the bad weather will be starting early this year with 19c today... I wish I had one of the fancy Japanese ones with heat... I'll take the hot and humid Japanese summers over Boston winters any time!

  • @tennsair You should be able to find one if you ask for a "Heat Pump". That is the name of the units that are capable of reversing operation to provide heat as well.

  • An appartment built for future AC use, thats pretty good.

My flat doesn't even have an exhaust hose, where I could put the tubing.

    Thanks for your video.

  • And i subscribed too ^^

  • @produKtNZ Wicked!

  • Wow this is totally incredible!

So the building are designed for a a/c unit to be installed at home owners option at a later date?

If so; Then there musn't be much business in home installations :D

    すばらし :D!

  • @produKtNZ Yea people pay to have the units cleaned replaced, charged what ever. There is plenty of business just not so much cutting holes in the walls and running cables.

  • YEA !

REAL TECHNICAL BRAIN POWER OF JAPANESE!

    FUCK THE CHEAP CHINESE!

  • @souro19 Japan is number one !

  • @toddatron

    YEP MAN !!!!!

GREAT JAPAN AND GREATEST JAPANESE PRODUCT !

WORLD TOP AND BEST TECHNOLOGY !

  • how many joes are in 200 sq ft.

  • i dont understand why their currency is so big....i mean you need thousand & thousands of yen to buy stuff.

  • @pinoymetaljoe Its just that say a yen is a penny. They tend to call the note a 1000 yen note or say 10 bucks or sen yen. 10000 yen is 100 bucks or say man yen. We would say hey you owe me 1000 pennies. No we say you owe me 10 bucks... dollars. As in the rigid way Japan does things usually and especially with money.......... the price is usually listed in yen each penny or yen accounted for. When you get into bigger numbers the expressions are condensed with Kanji.

  • @toddatron

    oh ok...

thank god, we call it dollar also in canada.

how much yen is a Kanji?

  • no mames!

  • Good video. I might have a chance to work as a teacher in Japan (Jet program). I was told by another person that the apartments are a glorified closet, measured in "tatami mats." LOL.

  • @biped19 yea that's about right if your used to having space space. I have pretty much gotten used to the scaled down sizes for everything here. I still whack my head every other day on the living room door way.

  • I'd love to move out to Japan to live, the fact I don't eat fish or know Japanese worries me though! :)

  • Theese are bomb, Can you get anything like this In Canada?

  • I'm moving to Japan soon during the extremely humid months, any advice other then saying cool, excuse the metaphor brotha. ;-)

  • Hei.... you need someone like me, to install your new unit, or to recharge the freon. or may be yu want to relocate the unit too. I will pump down, vacuum or servicing with chemical... I just charge you about 150.00 dollars for installation..

  • The Japanese manager was so damn funny. Reminds me of all the thousands of managers here in the U.S. HE IS Trying SO hard to look busy. LOL. :50

  • so you live there now ? your not going back to the US ?

  • Not unless I'm in a black bag. Well maybe to visit:)

  • ?????????????

  • oooooo i see

  • @toddatron Your sooo lucky, Japan is absolutely amazing, have been there several times

  • When I lived in Japan I got one of that. However It cools only the lower part of the room so I had to put one fan in front of it to blow the cold air up.

  • i'm interested in that "tie air conditioner" can i buy online?

  • That dry mode would be great to prevent your electronics from going bad within a year. Lived in Okinawa and had no a/c, learned to be wet all the time.

  • Great video man

  • how do you get to your balcony now? squeeze through the small gap when you open your sliding door?

  • We had two sliding doors to the porch and rarely used the one where we installed the AC.

  • oh that makes sense haha. I have 2 rooms with doors to the balcony too. I didn't think about going through the other room because I never open it except for ventilation.

  • Ductless air is good for cleaning/purifying air and such since ducts get dirty, but for cooling a house here in the US...it seems like it would struggle. It is a better option for homes/condos in the city, though.

  • Yea good point. Most houses here are the size of large condos so room units make sense. What about the triple units? I have seen moderately sized houses in the states with three slim air units on one compressor. Mitsubishi makes it.

  • I hope your new house is quieter, but 400 bucks for the cheapest air conditioner seems really expensive, we often have them on sale for 89 dollars. Heck even the portable units you showed near the end that do ac and heat can be found on sale for the 400 you spent.

but maybe they area lot more efficient? 6 amps is pretty low, so you save your money back ina year or two

  • Dude I so miss the cheap Home Depot AC units and tools. Cheers!

  • That is such a cool fan with the remote and stuff

  • i love america MORE after i seen this

  • for crying out loud.. that noise out of there... pffffffffffff and all that crying kids ... how awful.

  • very nice informative video Todd.

I know how well these units work, my in-laws in Koiwa have those units-one downstairs and one upstairs.

  • Hi Todd, wow, that was interesting! WHY don't we have these here in the USA if they are so efficient? How well is it working for you? Now that it is August--are you using the cooling mode? Mom wants that A/C jacket!! She is SERIOUS! It's so hot here in FL right now, ugh!

  • Um we DO have these in the US!!!

I have two friends that have the compressor outside blower inside models..

I have seen these in offices and stores too!!

    (I am in NY)

  • We have that in the USA . It's called ductless air condition. Instead of having a cable coming from the air conditioner that plugs into a wall outlet the wire goes from the outside unit to two circuit breaker. I have a Fujitsu ductless air conditioner.

  • Yes i have installed a few back on the east coast and they are a great solution. More people are using them in the US over the last ten years due to their efficiency and small size and better features.

  • great video WOW you look like you are burning up lol

  • I always wondered what those things were over the windows now i know. they are a/c

  • Hell yeah nice work man, the humidity in Japan kills me in summer, totally not used to it...very nice looking studio you got there too.

  • I really like these tech videos. These really highlight the differences between Japan and the states. A complete rundown showing from your research and consumer considerations is awesome.

  • This is so werid I was just thinking about AC in Japan yesterday! I was watching an episode of an anime and this girl lived in a house with her sisters and parents, and she had a wall unit like the one you showed us. I'm the kind of person that ever since birth I've hated heat and needed AC so move or vacation in Japan I'm so need an AC.

  • If you choose wisely the apartment will have it here!

  • You're awesome man. Thanks for the info.

  • Cool!

  • Nice work on the air conditioner and door.

  • Thanks

  • This was educational.

Never understood the portable units. Where do they send their exhaust heat?

  • You have a choice with the portable ones: Some units vent it out a window like a dryer back home (with a duct) Some portable units dry and cool the air and just spew the rest out the back. The ones like that are more for industrial use where efficiency is not so important just the directional blast of cold air.

  • Hate those, the portable industrial ones. Need to empty the water bucket manually. So many idiots in the data center industry think they can be used in enclosed rooms with no place to send the heat exhaust.

  • Equipment + moisture = bad.

  • This is one of the technologies Japanese brands have had difficulties importing to US. Japanese ACs got so many high tech features, but I sometimes feel they have gone too far.

  • I use them but most people back home just want to hit a button a get cool. Sad cause the features eliminate the need for separate units for cleaning the air and such. One machine that does it all well is what we here in Japan.

  • LOL at that suit!! It is FREEZING down here in Tasmania at the moment.

  • Another Classic Toddatron..

I employ the fan pointing RIGHT AT MY FACE method to fall asleep here in kyushuu.

your hard work on your videos is appreciated!

  • hot as hell! good stuff

  • Cool dude.... sorry missed yea when you replied to the hang out vid. I defiantly have a lot of free time between now and Aug 2nd.

  • Interesting, and i was wondering how to clean the filters on the aircon here.. time to hit the sink!

  • Yea the more clean it is the more efficient meaning lest on the electric bill!

  • Actually it was a CD player. I suppose it was a background for psychological influence so people would buy AC units. They were playing the sound loop all day in the store.

  • wait was that a cicada inside the store?? and prices always confuse me in japan, like on one product there are 6 price stickers xD
