  • It would be great if you would sell it with a small device with two electrodes that produces a 150-360 J biphasic shock, so every medical student could defib any time. I'm really excited about this!

  • Dr. Dave, just so I understand this correctly, this app is only a MONITOR quality, not DIAGNOSTIC quality, tracing of Ld1?

For all of those people who "can't access a pt w/ their LP's", does that mean if your pt arrests in front of you are you going to sit there & call for a code 1 time or are you going to find a way to get the paddles/pads on? If you can get therapy cables on, you can get electrodes on.

  • @111ffmedic This is a 0.5-40 Hz ambulatory monitor bandwidth ECG which can be either Lead I(LH-RH) for an anterior precordial lead (put it midline on the chest). You cannot match how quickly I can assess whether a pt is in VT or VF- literally a few seconds. If a pt is seeing a physician and has an "observed arrest", While someone is getting the crash cart, they "observer" can diagnose if the defib is needed with 5 seconds of access to the pt's chest. We have done it in our trials. Dr Dave Albert

  • I have the patent presented in 2006, for this type of system (event monitor) included in the any smartphone (Iphone, Android, etc).

  • Wow, huge potential. Approved in Europe?

  • @Ionizap The AliveCor Smartphone ECG has passed all CE tests; we anticipate CE approval in Q1.

  • mom why is that man holding an iphone to his chest?

  • Will this product interfere with a Medtronic implanted loop recorder (cause artifact?). Also, would poor hand circulation (eg hypovolemia & raynauds) causing hands to be very cold affect the accuracy with hand use of the device? Finally, can u consider or do u plan to include a perfusion index? I know a lot of patients and their EPs who would be interested.

  • any plans for realeasing the product soon ???

  • @MrYaronG Please register your email address on AliveCor's website to receive updates as market release approaches.

  • Doesn't this have to be approved by the FDA to be marketed and sold as a medical device? Is there clinical trial data?

  • @ahunta2 AliveCor is currently in clinical trials and will market the ECG once FDA clearance has been obtained.

  • I fail to understand how can they measure the leads with only only two electrodes? don't you need AT LEAST 6 electrodes to properly measure heart activity? this contradicts everything I learned abut the cardiovascular system in med school.

  • @devilishtarutaru Imagine how a defibrillator can show ECG on its monitor when you press two handles on the chest.

  • iPhone’s SAR measurement may exceed the FCC exposure guidelines for

body-worn operation if positioned less than 15 mm (5/8 inch) from the

body (e.g. when carrying iPhone in your pocket). For optimal mobile device

performance and to be sure that human exposure to RF energy does not

exceed the FCC, IC, and European Union guidelines,When using iPhone near

your body for voice calls or for wireless data transmission over a cellular

network, keep iPhone at least 15 mm (5/8 inch) away from the body.

  • Wow, this seems crazy to me! (in a good way)

You demonstrated the Lead I rhythm, but is it possible to measure the other Leads as well/get an overall rhythm strip? Being that the electrodes are confined to such a small space (and there are only 2 electrodes), it seems impossible to get anything other than just a Lead I reading, as it is not able to reach the legs.

  • My suggestion would be the same device but detached from the phone, since they both connect wirelessly. Awkward to follow an ECG strip while it is stuck on a person's bare chest.

Manufacturing a wireless sticker with energy source would be more convenient. Moreover you can have multiple stickers on as many patients as you want and you can monitor each one separately. Actually this would be more convenient for a desktop computer, laptop, tablet and a smartphone.

  • Wow! That truly is an incredible medical equipment. I want one :)

  • I would like to buy this company - no joke

  • Nice one,

  • As an ACHD patient with the commensurate arrhythmias and who lives way out in the sticks, this would be an awesome device to have! I always have my iPhone with me.

  • Unbelievable... you guys have made something that will help make EMS Cardiology much faster. You guys don't even have to make it an Iphone app, you could just make a tablet that can do the same thing. :)

  • Dr Albert This is a great device. Hope it comes out really soon

How much will it cost? will it be available on other phones besides the ipod

Be eligible for this device from another country, for example CHILE.

I have registered on your page, I hope soon to hear.

    Greetings and luck.

  • Do you have iPhone app idea? I heard you can make your own iPhone app with a software called AppWizard in less than 30 minutes

  • As a medical student about to start my rotations I am very excited about this concept. I've registered to your mailing list and and am enthusiastically awaiting news about this project.

I saw on a news report that was done in the beginning of the year that the electrode casing was expected to cost less than $100. Has this changed in any way, and what's the latest estimate to when this will become available?

  • Uh, I rest my case!

  • Doctor Albert, congratulations on this amazing triumph! This innovation has the ability to absolutely revolutionize healthcare in so many ways both in the healthcare provider setting as well as the individual user's own health. As a career firefighter/paramedic, I would very much like to be in contact with you regarding some ideas to incorporate your device in the setting of preventing/minimizing the number one killer of firefighters.....AMI.

Read the 3GS iphone manual, it states hold away from body when using. Never hold close to your body. May exceed the FFC for radiation!

  • Electro-Sensitivity (ES)

Electro-sensitive people suffer from a variety of symptoms in close vicinity to electromagnetic fields, Wi-fi, mobiles, DECT phones, baby monitors, certain light sources etc: Headaches, Speech problems, dizziness, chest palpations, tinnitus, sweating at night. skin irritations, pins and needles in the hands in the mornings, short-term memory loss, nauseas, joint aches and pressures at the back of the head as well as in the sinus or forehead area.

  • Even if you are not ES, it is beneficial to turn off your Wifi over night, as well as to ban electrical items, your cordless phones and mobiles from your bedroom. You will sleep much better and are less likely to have an interrupted sleep pattern. Usually waking around 4 am.

  • Another simple test is to stop carrying your mobile on your body (chest or trouser pockets). in many cases people experience the so-called “phantom text messages”. This describes a situation where every now and then you think you had a text message, when keeping the phone in your pockets, but when you checked there was no message. Some even suffer from heart palpitations. If that is case, just try for a while to carry your mobile in a bag or switch it off, while you have it in your pocket.

  • AMAZING!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

  • We are very aware of the Instant HR app which uses the camera and LED flash to turn the iPhone into a photopleth HR device- very nice for spot checks.

Thanks boB for you nice words

  • there's a heart rate only monitor available for android phones... it uses the camera flash light by placing finger tip over the light... it measures the light transmission through the veins the same way the oxygen saturation levels are measured with that thing that Doctors clip onto your finger.

  • Hi Dr David. What wireless device did u use?Is it bluetooth? Apple does not allow access to bluetooth interface on the iphone.

  • عجيب يا iPhone

  • We will have it working with low-cost Android smartphones.

  • and if you cannot afford an iPhone?

  • @jbdigitronics then maybe you don't need your own electrocardiogram

  • this guy i just started seeing keeps asking for roadhead should i give it?

  • We will be conducting clinical validation studies in the next couple of months and one will involve the safety of using our iPhone ECG in patients with pacemakers and ICDs. Please register with you email at our websitewww.alivecor.com and we will keep you updated as to our progress. Thanks for your interest.

    Dave Albert, MD

  • Dr. Albert: Is there any update on the progress of the FDA approval and app approval from Apple? What about Android? Anything on price? I can't wait for this to finally be released. Thanks!

  • The App is not available yet and the final name has not been selected.

  • what is the name of the app you will need to use?

  • Yes, we store the rhythm strips and you can print out a PDF for a hardcopy. We will provide some minimal automatic analysis in this first model to minimize FDA issues. DrDaveAlbert

  • Does the software store the ECG and export for printing say in a PDF so it can be emailed and stored in my files? Does the software also have ECG interpretation algorithms similarly to my Welch Allyn ECG device?

This seems like a fantastic solution. Would it be possible in the future in have full 12-lead ECGs? This is perfect for in the field as many others are already stating!

  • Amazing!

  • Sounds like a great application! I'm a paramedic and I think this app would be a very handy tool to utilize in tricky situations, like the car accident you mentioned. Even if you wanted a quick peek at the patient's rhythm when getting ready to extricate the patient from a home, this application sounds like it would be perfect instead of delaying or encumbering movement by hooking the patient up to a LifePak. I'm definitely going to purchase the app for my Ipod Touch!

  • I have received over a hundred emails from EMT's and paramedics who tell me that they come across victims trapped in MVA's (car wrecks) and they cannot get their LifePacks hooked up until they release the victims. they have told me that the iPhone ECG would be valuable in those types of situations. I had not thought of that but as many as have responded, that must be a valid application of the tech. DrDaveAlbert

  • Woops! Sorry for the double post!

  • @LifetoneTechnology

This technology would certainly be useful but limited in USAR environment unless intrinsically safe. Still a gadget for my shopping list!! Keep me posted.

  • @buchanresq Paramedics use EKG machines, capable of capturing 12 Lead (and sometimes more) EKG's to diagnose and treat many different heart conditions. First responders carry AED's or "Automated external defibrillators" that automatically detect these rhythms and also have the capability of fixing the lethal ones. First responders (Not paramedics) carrying $500 iPhones around to show them an EKG readout (of which they not trained to read) is sillyness. However cool technology! i want one!

  • Genius. If EMTs become required to use this if their facility requires so, they will need iPhones. Thus, the sales for iPhones will increase as facilities will have to purchase them for their EMTs. This will be big on the medical market as well as the consumer market.

  • @YmalikBA you are uninformed. Paramedics use EKG machines, capable of capturing 12 Lead (and sometimes more) EKG's to diagnose and treat many different heart conditions. This comment is weird on different levels. Why would EMT's be soon required to use this device? where did you hear this from? Not to mention, handheld devices similiar to this technology without the phone already exist.

  • @koubiczech. Your an idiot. This is an EKG. However, it is only monitoring lead 1. With a three lead EKG, you have three electrodes that monitor three different leads by changing polarity. This uses two electrodes to monitor 1 lead. So it is useful as a monitor to see rhythm but can in no way be substituted for a diagnostic 12 lead EKG. Btw. Your a Dumbass.

  • It would be great if you could buy extensions to allow you to read lead 2 and 3.

  • How much?

  • Wie heist das App und wo bekommt mal die schale her???

  • Well, if this thing really diagnoses a heart defect in patients, like A fibs, V fibs, heart blocks, then I will believe in this technology....other than tht, I don't see it much encouraging as of now !! Also, if this works, will u have it for androids as well...Seems like this God Damn iPhone controls the whole world ! Just so much hyped !!!

  • LOL...........

  • Very cool!!!!

  • Very inspiring Dr. Dave!!

Does the current case work with the new/latest iPod Touch ? Sounds like it should. Will it also work with the previous 3rd generation iPod Touch?

I expect there will be demand for the 3G or 3GS but I totally understand why it has been developed for the iPhone4 at this time. Would be nice to be able to give this as an iPod Touch gift (i.e. no service plan required like the Phone)...for people who don't really need a new phone just the ECG capabilities.

  • Ok u attached the wireless case to the iphone 4 , how will the software get paired withe hardware ? I mean there is a missing connection, if that thing is real for sure i am getting one ,,

  • @tawfikakkad bluetooth

  • please make this for androids!

  • my friends, you are looking at the next billionaire. :D

  • This is just too cool!

  • Revolutionary

  • No closed caption? No subtitle. No I don't understand ya at all. Pls add then

  • Incredible, what a great idea. As a heart patient, I'd love to be able to use this when I exercise.

  • that's the biggest bullshit made in USA I've ever seen. But typical american. Wonder when the first personal CT-system will be sold for home to make sure everybody is supplied with sufficient radiation and enough fate he/she is deadly sick....

  • FAKE!!! Look on the internet how ECG works! This way is inpossible!

  • its fake

  • How would this work with someone who has an implanted cardiac defibrillator?

  • i'm a medic, how can I find one?

  • @yezidisbroadcasting do you know how real ECG works? This isn't ECG, this is heart beat game!

  • SHOW MORE YOUR BODY

  • @catdog2014 LOL

  • Range depends but is at least 1 foot. It is extremely low power (less than 1/2 mA continuous draw at 3V). We could add more electrodes but our design paradigm for this first unit was the absolutely lowest cost and a single lead does that. We have it working with Android but as a "stick-on" for the back as opposed to a "case".

  • Good morning,

My first question is about the peripheral. what is the range? Could there be that more electrodes on a separate peripheral? I am a field paramedic and having this as a first responder would be priceless. The ability to have a baseline ECG to the responding units or even to the ER MD in itself would be worth while. I would love to stay informed!

  • nice. A real hart defibrillator would be really cool.

I shot and the battery is dead.

  • @KratosRamos Who uses android?

  • How about ecg for sports training? It would be great if I could use my iPhone on a bike, to monitor my heart rate.

Many people have iPhone 3g, 3gs (like me) so there is much need for 3g/3gs version

  • How about ecg for sports training? It would be great if I could use my iPhone on a bike, to monitor my heart rate.

  • The next phone you make a wireless ECG system for is the Droid X! Being a paramedic I would pay upwards of a few hundred dollars for it!

  • many thanks dr.dave and many thanks for iphone 4 makers.

  • wow!!!

  • Amazing!

  • por essa e por outras eu quero o iphone!

  • That's a pretty high heart rate, doctor!

  • Wow! I jacked off to this video.....

  • @KratosRamos there is a similar app in android market.

  • The iPhone 4 is capable to do that? That's crazy and awesome at the same time! ^o^

  • holy shit, this is amazing. how much?

  • ht tp://ww w.AlexiaSecret.c om/?id=2227248

    Happy view :)

  • I have AT&T NOT THE SHITTY IPHONE THANK GOODNESS. I get good coverage everywhere I go but this APP don't think it will actually works. And phones does have radiation in it. But what's the point in using it on your body?

  • You can print out the rhythm strip recordings as PDF documents and those can contain the patient name and mrn.

  • wow...thats just awesome. is there any function to save stats by patiet number and print on demand? would be cool though ...ouh and erm.. there's a reply button right there --->

  • @hamlaupr should be able to link it via bluetooth to a defib and print from there. but I'd want this developed more before I carry it on my ambulance

  • No, detecting ischemic heart disease is certainly beyond this system but it can detect Afib or heart block or vach. DtDave

  • Sounds pretty sick. I tend to get heartbeat 120-135 sometimes.

Hoping for a medical insurance ap next

  • Thank you doctor :)

  • Thank you doctor :)

  • Doctors are dumb

  • This is a great tool for the medical community and parents like myself that have a child with cardiac issues. My son was born with congenital JET and we constantly have to monitor his heart rate and manually track his trending heart rates. Thank you DR. and I look forward to hearing more next week.

  • two of my fascinations in life...Medicine n iphone.. mixed up together and i have a powerful device for medical purposes... I WANT ONE!!!

  • Man this is just awesome!!! How did you figure it out?

  • Actually, works with the 3G, 3GS and iTouch4 but case is designed for i4. Waiting to see if demand for 3G/3GS. DrDace

  • @LifetoneTechnology does the APP detect atherosclerosis?

  • @LifetoneTechnology Please make this for the 3G. My daughter has one, and I cant afford to get the i4. I also cannot afford EKG or other tests my doctor recommended to me. this would be very helpful in diagnosing what exactly is going on with my heart, as I have a heart rate that has become very unstable recently. I could just take the info in to him, and he could go from there. you would be helping me as patient and my doc too.. Thank you!!!!

  • I assume no iPhone 3g comparability...

  • Amazing!

  • d3xDark_ you have bad AT&T coverage also? This video was shot in my office on the third floor next to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center which has a tower. If you think it's fake, then come and see it at CES.

  • @LifetoneTechnology i think he was joking because the iphone 4 has many disadvantages and 1 of them is the at&t connection

  • it's all fake... look at how many bars he's getting with AT&T...

  • @d3xDark lol epic fail

  • The iPhonECG should be available for purchase in early Q2. Different applications will come out that all work with the case depending on where you are in the world and our gaining local clearances like FDA 510(k) and CE marking under the MDD.

  • Are these available for purchase yet?

  • Omg this is incredible! is this case available for ipod??

  • Amazing!!!

  • How about 510(k) clearances.

  • Ok, i've seen a lot of add on stuff for the iphone, a lot of apps, same with android, and so far, this is by far one of the most impressive thing's i've seen on any device.

  • ordering informations???

  • any android apps !!

  • Amazing. Nice work.

  • So what lead is actually being traced?? (sorry if this was addressed in the video I can't seem to stream the whole thing)

  • I MUST HAVE ONE!!!

  • Everyone interested in keeping up with the latest info on the iPhonECG, please register with your email at alivecor.com If it is not working tonight, please try again tomorrow. Thanks for your interest.

  • Very cool ap! I'd love to know how to order one for my classes. Presently I'm teaching 12 Lead ECG to my students and this would be too cool. Thanks for sharing it!

  • How does one go about ordering this product?

  • Very impressive!

  • Whats the ordering information?

  • Yes it would work but the case would not fit as snugly... but it would work.

  • Does it work with the iPod touch 4g as well?

  • Less than $100 including the case and the App. Dr. Dave

  • Is there a estimated price for this yet? I would really like to buy one.

  • Holy wowzers! That is COOL!

  • Awesome, I can't wait to get one!!!!

  • As for review and measurement-- here you go-- you can review and measure (25m/sec and 1mV/mm) easily as well as print as a pdf.

  • Yes, it's just a single lead but I can diagnose almost any rhythm in seconds.

  • still can't do a twelve lead! but that's still cool as hell.

  • I want one!

  • how i do a simple measure? ;)

  • Looks like it's finally the future, guys. Worth the wait.
