  • why does he tick his own work

  • i was giving that stuff when i was 2

  • kid has a bright future.

  • that's the math i was given when i was 2

  • i bet you didn't even know how to talk when you were 2....

  • @killerwhalebobby

    Another jealous prick.....

  • @thestonedowl .....or somebody just making a joke?

  • may I kindly offer some advice? I mean no offense whatsoever.

Math is not writing down and memorizing random formulas and numbers, but what your son obviously has is a desire to work.

So please, as he grows older (and maybe even earlier) introduce him to this website:

    artofproblemsolving dot C O M

its a great website where if he truly pursues this talent, he'll understand what math is all about. There's books, online classes, and a forum of math-loving peeps.

    I hope you'll consider this.

  • No way he's 4 he sounds way too old to be 4, i think about 7 or 8

  • Who cares if he's 4, 5, 6 or 25 he's LEARNING! He's not sitting on his ass watching TV or out causing trouble with friends, he's doing something positive. Yet people like you have to always look at the negative! Who gives a flying fig newton how old he is!?!? He's contributing to the world by using his brain...why don't you try it sometime eh?

  • You OBVIOUSLY did care what I said, you took the time to read it and the time to reply to it. LOL hahahahaha dumbass

  • @AlexieDoll

    Your just jealous.

  • Well you just said it. True I was a loner but I made sure I got A's in Trig and Chemistry. While my friend goes to parties im the one who stays home and studies. I don't even drink so I guess you could call me that.

  • my mother was a teach of gifted students and she had a 4yr old doing simultaneous equations in his head... this kid is smart but not extremely gifted

  • Well done!

    Clever boy!!!

  • Math isn't too hard at that age. I taught myself measurement but then had to unlearn it in school as I leaned inches and my school used metric.

  • i had so much trouble with estimation in the 2nd grade, now i do calculus with ease, taylor series, simpson's rule, and vector spaces, lawl its so ironic

  • wow 4 year old. this guy is smart :)

  • On a scale of 1-10, i'd give it a 7 b/c I think I was able to do that or something close an that age.

  • how true. i read at 4. my son now is 5 and he too can read and have memorized the x tables.

  • how true. i read at 4. my son now is 5 and he too can read and have memorized the x tables.

  • lol... i learned how to do long division and long multiplication at the age of 6. when i was in 1st grade.

  • It's ridiculous that everyone who commented can only find criticism to a simple video. Who's business is it if he's doing the "right" method or if he's "gifted" or not? I find it extremely distasteful to see someone come to the conclusion that the parents must be "pushing" him. Do they know him? And who are they to say that "well he doesn't sound like a four year old". How judgmental. Just a word of encouragement: that is wonderful that your son understands this and you're doing a great job!

  • Thank you Liz. His math passion is all his. Yes we don't discourage it but he loves numbers. Some things are gifts from God.

  • hmmmm. I personally don't think that it is really impressive (according to what i saw from the video). If there is another video showing him doing 2-digit multiplication problems, i am interested to take a look. Anyway, it is a good thing that your kid loves math!

  • Ouch. We have not tried at all to push his talents. He loves numbers. He walks around with a notepad writing out math equations. We never taught him to do that. When we give him math problems you would think we just gave him a bag of candy - he gets so excited.

I have a list of equations that require carryover that I want to videotape him doing but he usually says he's not in the mood to do it at the time I ask - so I don't push it. He was definitely 4.

  • He doesn't show his carry over but he does it.He's my son! My husband put the video up. We had him tested and he is very gifted in Math.He has a way of counting on his fingers with one hand being the ones and the other hand being the tens.(We see the fingers move like he's calculating but he doesn't count aloud). He also will do harder multiplication using his hands. Effectively, he is adding them but understands that 7x5 is the same as 7 fives. He understands the diff.between 2+5 and 2x5.

  • What does a 4 year old sound like? Trust me, he was 4 when this was taken. He just had his 5th birthday a few days ago. He's also taken to reading...all on his own.

  • He is able to to figure it out correctly no matter what side he starts from. It may not be proper "schooling" but then again, he hasn't learned any of this in school. He's only 4 and he's doing multiplication now. He "sees" the numbers and can add and subtract very large numbers in his head, including carry over. He can also count up to any number by any interval.
