  • My grandma had a small part in that movie

  • These NYTimes reviews are way too short to do movies like this justice. This is arguably Billy WIlder's masterpiece, and deserves serious treatment from the Times.

  • If you watch this movie and think it is about newspapers you are not really getting it, it a Cold War message, a warning. "Good news is no news" means no news is good news when the situation we thought we had well in hand is in fact spinning out of control. That is what this movie is about.

  • Kirk Douglas' best perfomance IMHO.

  • Wilder's greatest film, although he is much more famous for his comedies. You MUST see this movie. Unbelievably gripping and scary reality hitting you with both barrels.

  • @ipmoic

I agree. I loved it since the first time I saw and it's one of all my time favs. Anyway, I think that Wilder's The Lost Weekend is as good as Ace in the Hole. Ray Milland and Kirk Douglas they both made an excellent work.

  • This is my favorite film of all time, but I don't really agree with the review.

The film is not about how some journalists are manipulative and amoral, but how the act of journalism itself is inherently manipulative, and must be that way to get the job done.

And why group Jessica Lynch, the Tea Parties, and Joe the Plumber? You make it seem as if The Right has an monopoly on making a "big circus" (Cindy Sheehan, anyone?)

  • The New York Times should get their Youtube presence set up properly.

Best newspaper on the planet and it has almost no Youtube presence :/

  • That was great. So sad but true.

  • Classic.

  • Good-bye free speech.

  • I love the black and white movies.
