@MrJghm We actually missed them by a few days. We left on (I believe the 6th or 7th of July (2010)) and Micheal Bay started tearing up Wacker Drive a few days later. I had no idea they were going to film there. I'm still a bit upset that I missed the filming.
Thanks for the ride . Lived in and around Chicago my whole life and never took the river tour. Took the night skyline fairy ride a few times . Really nice video. Beautiful city : )
@890slay If you own your own boat (which I don't) you can cruise up and down the river all you want. No extra charge beyond what you would normally pay for owning a boat.
I paid for the river tour while on vacation ($25). The tour last for about an hour.
There are other boat tours as well: A Lake Michigan tour and A sunset tour that last about an hour. The sunset tour was pretty relaxing. Just a tour of the lake with some Sinatra songs being played. Good photos, but made for dull video.
@MODDEDGEARbuddy Not even close to dead. There's more river traffic then you can shake a stick at. Kayakers, private boats, water taxis, tour boats. They actually stopped people from getting into Navy Pier later that night because it was full due to the fireworks. Lake Shore drive shut down from all of the cars. I couldn't even get to my car until after 11pm.
Dozens of mounted police keeping order. It's the reason I left the car in Iowa this year and took the train to Chicago.
@MODDEDGEARbuddy please explain then how Chicago is the third largest city in America. Chicago land is the second most populated county in the country only behind LA county.
@Afanlynness The air show will be happening on the lakefront on the 20th and 21st. It's been years since I've last seen it but if it's anything like the previous shows it should be good. If you can stand the crowds I would make sure to check it out.
@conkerkillers4 I filmed this on the 4th of July 2010. We were in Chicago for the week. The original running time for the tour was a bit over an hour. The tours normally stop around October in Chicago.
@anth42789 I think swimming is discouraged. At least in the downtown area. But I don't think there's anyone preventing swimming further upstream. As you can see there are lots of recreational boats including kayaks heading up and down the river. I think a bigger concern would be someone getting hit by a boat more then the swimming itself.
As soon as I saw the towers I thought: Mirrors Edge anybody?

Very interesting video! Do you pay something to access the river, and where do you get the boats?
