After playing SC2, you realize that not one but two awesome character make a sacrifice here. *MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT for those unfortunate enough to have not beaten Starcraft 2 already* Considering the Overmind created Kerrigan as a way to break the Zerg free of the reprogramming the Voice in the Darkness gave them that turned them into the ravenous horde of flesh and madness we know and love. Shame Kerrigan was havong too much fun backstabbing people.

I don't really get it, Tassadar's sacrifice didn't really do anything, Kerrigan took control of the Zerg after the Overmind was destroyed anyway. Kinda a waste.

Not really. Tassadar's destruction of the Overmind sent the Zerg into chaos which let Kerrigan break free. Sure this ultimately turned out bad, but in Kerrigans grab for power, the Zerg Swarm was damaged which has lead to the short span of "peace" (about 4 years) in which humanity and the protoss can heal and pull themselves together.

Hmmm, well i guess your right, the Death of the Overmind effectively split the Zerg Swarm into two opposing factions the under Kerrigan's control and the Zerg under the newly formed Renegade Overmind during Brood War.

Even though Kerrigan did beat her enemies eventully her Zerg Swarm suffered heay loses in the process. So I guess it wasn't completely useless.
