  • I wasn't allowed to play video games from Mondays to Thursdays as a very young boy. I had to read novels instead, which I'm actually very grateful for. Reading has to start very early in life really, otherwise it will never become a regular habit later on in life.

  • @sripathyakasrip Good point. What we spend most of our time doing is what we become good at. Thanks for your comment.

  • There's a difference between playing a game excessively because you enjoy it, rather than being addicted. I find it funny how people who don't understand the difference, always seem to be the one who (think) are experts at analyzing it or something.

  • @TokyoNerd What is "excessively"...?

  • @gamerchronicles excessively = too much. In this case, it's be too many videos games played.

  • @TokyoNerd I know what the literal meaning of excessively is...but on a behavioral level, how would you determine how much is too much?

  • @gamerchronicles If it's all you're doing, then I think that'd be too much. But if you did other things in between, I wouldn't be so concerned.

  • This part in a nutshell: R0xb0x already said it.

  • i play games but i cant get made fun of for anything in games and i like talking to other people and getting the joy of completing "Quests" i like exploring the world and getting houses and calling the character "me" and putting myself into the game it just takes all the stress from me and i just looove to get away from the real world and put myself into a game and just relax

  • I played infamous today for hours today and felt kinda weird when I got abck into my daily routine again but I have an excuse. It was free from the sony welcome back pack. Thank you Sony, and most of all thank you hackers.

  • /watch?v=Jtw7_JAHfmU give mine a watch ;D

  • I've only played MMO game a couple times with a friend who asked me to join in.. And its amazing how time FLYS! It was as if 3hrs went by in 30min.. :P

  • 5 or 6 hours a day for me but ive got too keep up with the games as they come out. Its kinda my homework.

  • I PLAY FOR 17 HOURS A WEEK AND STILL HAVE ALL A's IN SCHOOL!!!!!!!

  • @TheBestOfSeries 17 hrs. a week better than 17 hrs a day. Good for you :-)

  • lol sometimes on weekdays i can do anywhere from 5 - 13 hours and on weekends i can play anywhere from 15 hours - 48 hours =/

  • MARRIAGE. is the most painfull cure to this addiction. "WE RUN OUT OF MILK"... " I NEED A MASSAGE"... "I WANNA GO WATCH A MOVIE"... "I NEED TO TALK ABOUT MY LIFE PROBLEMS CUZ I´M ON MY PERIOD".... ooooo and the best one... "I´M PREGNANT".

If you hav an addiction issue... GET MARRIED... your 15hrs of gameplay will reduce to 5 hours a week... tops. :s

  • shit, i dont buy my own food! :(

  • weekdays: whenever i feel like it. weekends: if friends dont want to go out and nothing interesting going on, all day. maybe 20 hours if i'm that into it.

  • What a parent should not do: yell at ur child that he should get the hell away from the PC, xbox or w/e kind of game the child is playing, u will just unleash the beast...

I am speaking from experience. trust me.

  • @elkarno true

  • it's amazing that as a psychotherapist, Scott experienced the addiction that she is now helping people to cope with. This must give a great insight into the problem, and help the people consulting with her to relate with their own experience.

  • how to stop thinking on games? when you have problems in your house

  • I'm 22. and I started playing games at the age of 4.. in 1992 so that is 18 years.. I play video games and love them.. but when I was 15 I grew stronger to weightlifting.. most people who play video games alot are the ones with issues.. that they play video games more than ANYTHING else.. but as long as they don't get into SERIOUS problems like losing jobs and becoming unhealthy, then they have nothing to worry about

  • I used to be addicted to the Call of duty series, I think I had 3 days on Cod 4, 2 days on cod 5 and I have 5 days on cod MW2. But recently I said enough is enough and fucking broke the damn disk and I don't play anymore. I encourgage you guys to do the same, please just quit like me and if u have any friends who play to much tell them to quit.

  • you will never quit gameing because its part of you and it will alwasy be part of you.

i have being gaming for 8 years and 10 hours at least and every day.

but i manage alittie bit of my heath like going gym so i have big muscles and 6 packs but ya 10 hours every day and give my self some time to go gym and having 6 packs =P ya but i am still a Addiction ass ho.le hahaha =P i just love to play because that the only way to run away from the real world......

  • I sit on the computer around 10 hours'a'day...

    I nearly don't eat anything...

    I'm skinny as fuck.

    I get horrible grades...

AND I only have 2 GOOD friends.

    My life rocks.

  • @Gvenge that's because your still young.. try to keep doing that till your get to your 40s.. that will all change.. but computer games are some of the worst ones.. like WOW.. that game.. I'm scared of ..lol too many people get addicted with that and diablo

  • ok skinny boy

  • I don't like socialising with people in my grade, not because I'm addicted it's just everyone else says I am mentally much older than other people, on school days I play up to 6 hours I day I don't need to study and I still get very good grades, I love to play war and medieval games not because i'm joining the army or anything, they're just entertaining to me, I know what I will study if I've got a chance, and I get 3 hours of exercise a week.

  • 3 hours a week! you need atleast 3hours a day!!!

  • @jakejakeharrison we wouldnt need that much time but people gotta remember how long it takes to get a match goin

  • I mean I play a lot and I admit it but my mom is always telling me to stop and she can't stop being on farmville and mafia wars and she won't take me to some places I mean I need to get some contact lenses and she's always saying let's go get them tomorrow.

  • you cant tell some one how to live their life so why tell some one to stop playing a game if they want to spend their life behind a computer, well let them do that. i use to play wow until one day i thought to myself "man this is really boring" so then i stopped playing games alltogether. but im not saying people should stop playing games because ive been there

  • Hmm, lets say people who didn't do so good with life were the ones playing so much videogames. Lets see, maybe life wasn't so great to them when they were out there. Maybe life didn't work so well with them, life's in-habitants didn't want you nor care for you.

You find something that can help you escape from life, escape from its people. This thing can help you cope of how life has put you down, your finally happy. Now life, the life that put you in a hole, and it's people want to takeu out

  • It's nice to see people motivated and helping each other in comments rather than arguing, good job guys and girls =]

  • i am 16 and i am currently doing my GCSE's and i also work. but i also play world of warcraft quite often. and in all honesty i play it because i have so much stress to pass my exams its nice to have something to just be so to let me unwind. i can do a couple of quests or what ever and just feel like a kid still otherwise in all honesty i think i would go nuts.

  • You sound like a really self-aware person managing your gameplay well. We all need ways to unwind.

  • lol i play wow 10 hours a day usually.. i have more friends in wow than in real life. i dont even care anymore..

  • Do you go to school? Do you work? Anyone will tell you that 10 hours a day is excessive. You should try to pick up a hobby that doesn't involve gaming.

  • I love video games too. I played video games if I have free time because I have school, family and friends to deal with. I'm not really an addict. I've played video games all the time for an hour or more usually. One time I've played for 7 hours and it happened twice and I haven't played for 3 months because of my studies. I've played Zero Online which is MMORPG but not alot and sometimes I've played this game late at night till 1 or 1:30 in the morning. I get good grades at school.

  • My name is Jouls and im a games addict. lol seriously but i love games but also have a social life when i have money il go out and spend time with friends i also do parkour so that keeps me active. at a weekend if i have no money i will litrelly wake up ether turn on my PC or an xbox 360 ( no ps3 yet :( )and play till about 3-5am so thats about 17+ hours.

    Go Team lol

  • finaly some one that talks about gaming that makes sence

  • wow shes good :O

  • all true she's good ;)

  • i have schizophrenia and im a no life gamer

  • I have a mild form of OCD but I am not addicted i just play a few games.

  • I can stop when ever I want but I am not addicted because I don't want to stop. Right?

  • Video Games themselves are not bad, but MMO's are frigging trash. They cost way too much money for what you do, and they ruin a person's social life and relationships. I know this from experience, my S.O. is an MMO addict and he won't even get off long enough to give me attention, he plays for 8 hours from the time he gets home from work to 5am sometimes.

  • Thanks for the kind words, I tried to get my S.O. (Dweros on Steam) to watch your video series, but he just scoffed at me. He doesn't think he has a problem, even though he is subscribed to multiple MMO's at a time (WoW, Eve, Age of Conan, Everquest). Each of those cost $40 for the game and $15 for subscrip, right? Its such a waste, and it isn't just the game, people use the things as a cyber room too. Its frustrating when yer lover would rather textf*** strangers than do anything with you.

  • well you think its when you want.

  • Drugs addicts also say that.

  • Ussick,

From experience, take a break from the game for a month. Just don't log in for 30 days.

If you can do that without having to make life alterations, habit alterations or without experiencing any discomfort or otherwise frustrations - then your prolly ok, but you still have to decide whats best for you at that level.

If you DO have those feelings / experiences, then how much they are felt should tell you how much the game is a part of your life, so you can decide its involvement.

  • Video games and sports both get you into shape in some ways, that each differ from.

Fast paced games improve your reflexes, Sports prevents you from getting fat and physically helps you.

There, valid contradictions to my comment will be accepted.

I also wanted to say to stay on topic, that woman is quite right there, unlike most other psychologists out there. But then, there's no need of interviewing someone to know that, it should be common sense that people need to be crazy to be addicted.

  • By the way my comment is just for a laugh, I hope I didn't make ant offense, anyway she knows what she's talking about! lol! ^_^

  • Shavaun Scott Says : I believe parents should monitor their children while they play, and if prolonged use occurs, then you should reward them by giving them broadband connection, so they can play online video games, this will have many positive results as follows - Prolonged use, anger problems, eating disorders, violent diarrhea, robbing of the biscuits, arms getting tired then falling of, aids, and brain melting. lol! ^_^

  • I think she is the first professional type person who understands whats behind it and is actually talking sense. Video Games test responsibility, they test whether you can regulate doing something you like with your real life, you can't be addicted to video games, you can always stop when you want to, wanting to is the problem though.

  • where can you fly not in video games!?

  • Finally! Someone talking about video games who doesnt call them the root of all evil and wants them destroyed!

  • Video Games are equivelent to sports for some people...

  • Except sports will help you get into shape.

  • That's true it's just that both sports and video games improve people in different ways.

  • get a Nintendo Wii

  • Video games will get your eye hand coordination into shape. So there.

  • everything she says is true but i have a good social life and i love HALO 3 and WoW but i do get annoyed if someone tries to bother me while im really in to the game

  • pretty much every gamer does that dougEFresh98: usually because of the level on concentration you put in :P in other words...u play to win? XD

  • this is a little bit true for me I dont like being aroud people because they drain me but I dont think its really a bad thing because if you think about it being in groups is just a primitive outdated survival behavior :P and these days its not really needed :P lol

  • I must play!

  • omg, i have a problem, lets play to forget this

  • wow i was amazed on how she said "not to bring them food,do laundry etc for them" applies to me, although i play on an average of 3-4 hrs atleast every 2 days, and like 6-7 hrs on weekdays. its an on and off thing for me somedays ill play it some days i wont

  • Shs right on, Jack Thompson should go try and be an ass around her, cause he'd get his palte served

  • These videos are very accurate. I was amazed how often I found myself nodding yes while watching.
