  • Would M-Audio Fast Track Help me Getting Great Sound Quality Of Vocals Or I should Go For a High Priced Mic?

  • if youre just gona be singing. you can get a 5 channel behringer mixer for 40$.

  • I have a battery condenser mic that will plug strait into my computer and sounds decent. make sure your mic can use either a battery or Phantom power.

  • im planning on buying a RODE NT1A condenser mic. Its basically just for vocal recording, is the USB interface the only extra thing i need to purchase (apart form the mic of coarse) to be able to begin recording?

  • hi brothers, i have A mic RODE NT1-A + M-audio fast track interface,,, im trying to record my first try,,, it's a slam + just a piano and violin + one acapella ,,, the problm is when i export the song to mp3 the volume is not high , im asking if there is any solution or a plug in to rise up the volume ,,, plz don't forget that u were beginners before :P

  • @mounireality there should be a main mix button on your program. you just turn up the main mix button.

  • @SOTBTv Go ahead! aha

  • @SOTBTv Alright thanks.

  • U have the same mixer as meeee!

  • if i but just one mic and hook it in to my laptop will it capture my singing and guitar playing?

  • hi,

can you recomend any setting for volume?

i am using an at2020 audio technica with a xenyx 802 mixer,

    how much gain of everything?

    do you understand my question?

  • it is necessary buy a pop filter??

  • Yea like I dont wanna hear where im takin a breath to get air to sing the song

  • @Johnnypmaster1 try with de-breath (waves)

  • How can i clean up the sound on the mic? Like that way i do hear when i breath, Jus the singing

  • @Johnnypmaster1

What do you mean exactly? You don't want to hear yourself breath?

  • Does an interface make recordings better? I got a samson c01u.

  • @OrionSimm

'Better' recordings are subject to MANY variables. The Samson is a USB mic so it has an integrated interface so you are just fine!

  • i got mine hooked up but i cant hear the sound unless i unplug it i gotta a mac

  • can you please do a video on setting up a Behringer mixer and a AT 2020 (non USB) mic?

  • can i do recording juz using ONLY the condenser mic and a computer without using any mixer or audiobox?

  • @eVilboyzZz

Only if the condenser mic is a USB condenser mic. :)

  • @dazzelya so if the mic straight away plug in into pc's usb, i can straight away record it? without any softwares? or some software cds?

  • @dazzelya if i using a usb condenser mic, do i need a software cds or what?

  • @eVilboyzZz

You'll probably need the software that comes with the USB mic but I'm sure you could download that from the manufacturers website.

  • @dazzelya okie thanks for reply , last question, any recommended free software ?

  • can i do recording juz using ONLY the condenser mic without any mixer or audiobox?

  • @eVilboyzZz no

  • when i plug up my mixer to my mic and pre amp it works but when i record (adobe audition 3.0) and play it back it really sounds like crap any idea why please help.

  • @flowstosick

    Crap? As in distorted or?

  • @dazzelya it worked once i tryed fixing my settings

  • fi wi :D

  • i have a mic and a little mixer but when you plug my miv into the mixer the mixer plugs into the wall for power and how am i suppose to record if it only plugs into my wall and not the cumputer can any one help me out / do i need to buy something els ? beacuse i wanna start recording but m mic plugs into the mixer for phantom power and then i plug it to the wall and theres no way i can plug it into the cumpter cuz there is no other cord

  • @abrvizu1

Do you have a model name of the mixer? I can look it up for you.

  • @dazzelya it calledxenyx1202fx its all in french and im a mexican american and idk what it says lol !

  • HI!

I use a sEX1 microphone and a Line 6 POD UX1 for mic and guitar recording. The guitar works fine but the microphone wont record the sound aaround it. I heard something about a power supply called "Phantom power" or something that you have to use for these kind of microphones. Do I need to buy something or am I just really stupid?

  • @ossikater

You already figured it out. You need a little Phantom power supply. Behringer makes one for about 20 bucks but there are other brands. Just google 'phantom power supply' and you'll get several options. You connect the sE mic to the power supply and the line out from the power supply to the guitar in on the Pod.

    Good luck.

  • Hey!

Do you think it's a good idea to buy a XLR to USB cable rather than a Audio Interface?

    PLEASE REPLY! :D

    Thank you! (:

  • @ShazStarMusic

You could try but I would still go for the interface. The XLR to USB might get you connected but I'm pretty sure it doesn't provide phantom power. An audio interface will also get rid of the lag (latency) most normal users get. That's pretty much what the interface is for.

  • Dude i have a mixer 8 chennal a Studio mic condenser samsung but good guality tho, thats all and im trina be a rapper right but noww im recording at adobe audition and my problem is that when you talk your voice but late like you say Hey and a sec it says hey how do you make it come the same time or is it the things im using do i need more stuff for this problem

  • @John51671

Sell the mixer because you probably don't need it and get an audio interface. The problem you describe is one of the main reasons why you need an interface (latency) in the first place.

  • @John51671 if your workin with a mixer and it has a delay or echo effect it may be on if its off it maybe on your software settings if you cant find why send me a message.

  • i want to get a "mxl genesis" microphone and a mbox to transfer the recording into my pc but is that all you need cuz i heard you need "pro tools" for it to work. please answer!! and thank you

  • @JKillaMuzik

    Hi,

Close! You need the M-Box in order for Protools to work. :) However you don't need to use Protools if you don't like it. The M-Box will work with pretty much all the known DAW's.

    Enjoy!

  • @dazzelya ohh alright, thanks man! and btw, can you make a 4 minute piano instrumental like ur video "lost"? cuz that vid was awesome and i would like to rap on some of ur instrumentals

  • @JKillaMuzik

I'll try. I'll have to be inspired though so I can't tell you when I'll post it. Feel free to rap on my instrumentals anyway. I have a few 'collab' vids on which several other people have rapped. I only ask to receive a message when a video response is posted so I can monitor what has been posted. If you want to rap to 'lost' feel free to do so too (though the tempo isn't constant). I'm glad you liked the video too.

  • wassup dazz

i had a question maybe you can inbox the information i need

    i have a usb mic,samson co1u

and i see that i need an interface ..now my question is

how do i connect the usb wire into tho xlr input ? or does the interface pick up the

signal through the computer? i dont know...haven a tough time figuring it out

any help would be useful !!!!!

  • @JOONTHEGOON

Hi. Well.. it's a USB mic so you connect it via USB. A 'normal' mic connects to an interface with an XLR connector but a USB mic has the interface part built into the mic itself. All you need to do is install the provided drivers and plug the mic into an empty USB port on your laptop/pc. I haven't used the Samson myself so I'm not sure how the gain is controlled but reading the info you got with the mic should sort that out for you (or visit the Samson website).

  • mixers suck dick. any shitty analog mixer you get is ment for live purpose. but there are still fucks who record into them and think they are pro.

ANALOG MIXERS ARE WORTHLESS. if u want a mixer get a digital mixer that can control your DAW. that is if u know what a DAW is...

  • @TheTelepathetics

Small 'mixers' like the one in this video are useless for actual mixing. They are usually used to route audio, not mix it.

Although more and more small to midsized studios (and B rooms in commercial spaces) get a CONTROL SURFACE (which it is called as apposed to your 'digital mixer' statement), nothing beats analogue from a sonic standpoint. There is a reason there are still countless SSL, NEVE, API etc. etc. etc. boards being used every day.

  • i got that exact same mixer

  • Hi can you tell me, what equipment i would need to sing on youtube. just like alot of other people who i watch, and they sound good. am a singer, and i would love to record my vocals, and upload it to youtube. BUT i dont know how to do it. i've got a condenser studio mic, and protools interface. how do you do it HELP.

  • @24hegde

A camera, the stuff you mentioned and talent. That's pretty much it. :)

  • what the hell are you recording running a mixer without PFL? Im just curious! I have the same one sitting here collecting dust

  • @mordsgaudimachen

I never used it to record. I used to use it to route the outputs from my Triton to the monitors. That's pretty much all it as used for (the line mixer I was looking for wasn't available that day and I got impatient).

It now collects dust at a friends house. :p

  • i have an usb mic and i want to buy pro tools with m audio interface

will i have to get anew mic with xlr or is there a way to use the usb mic

  • @1xXADoNAiXx yes, you will need to get a mic with xlr. an xlr mic will do you better than a usb. i have a samson co1u currently and there is latency issues with monitoring, sound is alright but you are also only drawing around 5 volts from usb power. i would just sell the mic and pick up the interface and a xlr condenser mic. btw, there really is no way to use the usb mic on an interface and defeats the purpose of the interface.

  • HEY CAN I JUST USE A MIXER INSTEAD OF AN INTERFACE

  • @OgGhostFace1 yes but it will only power the condenser mic if it has phantom power. its real obvious if it has it or not. its a button that says +48v

  • @OgGhostFace1

You can but you are better of with a proper interface (unless you can connect the mixer via usb or firewire).

  • I was hoping you could help. I've just bought an AT2020 USB Condenser Mic for VO at home, unfortunately it is picking up alot more unwanted noise thaN I expected. Is there any way to shorten the range of the mic so that it only picks up my vocals right next to the mic? Any help greatfully received

  • just buy the alesis mutimix 4 ($80-$100) its a mini mixer, can hook up a guitar, 2 mix inputs n has phantom power

  • hi,i have a behringer uca 202 interface, but i can't use it because i dont how to begin on this thing..im playing keboard and i want to put in record..i have already a software on my computer(energy xt),but it didn't work at all..i guess i need a step by step tutorial..hope you can help me tnx...

  • so will yu need the mixer and the audio interface

  • @MrSlicksz no your mixer is basically an audio interface. between the sound being created ie a guitar or drums to a computer. if your mixer is able to directly connect correctly to your computer for recording.

  • can i put my tube pre 2 my fast track pro should i us the ph power from my sound card or tube pre

  • do i need to buy a mixer for a mic condeser?

or not? thx.. messaqe @ my profile thx

  • i bought a tascam us-122mk II (usb audio/midi interface) i just wanna know if i still have to use a mixer or if i record vocals without a mixer do u think itll sound good?

  • i bought a tascam us-122mk II (usb audio/midi interface) i just wanna know if i still have to use a mixer or if i record vocals without a mixer do u think itll sound good?

  • Hi, I just bought a behringer b-1. I have no idea how to set up my condenser mic, what kind of cable, i want to plug into my computer

  • you can always use a usb condenser mic lol

  • hey i have a behringer 802 mixer and a line 6 ux1 sound card i have a 1/4 to 1/4 wire comming from the L and R of the main out going into the line inputs of the sound card and a XLR condenser mic into the mixer but wen i start to record it doesent record to the program but i have all signal any help?

  • Can you use an XLR to MINI?

  • hi! i already have a macbook pro, im planning to create a (best) home studio but not that expensive. i need to know what kind of mic, audio interface and recording software that i will be using. thanks..

  • this video make me vomit. dude can please like move the camera we want to see what u got show us the mic follow the tittle show us some quality sound can some one do this!!!! please!!!

  • or you can just simply buy a USB condensor mic, connect it to your computer via USB and magic. Why spend your money on all this stuff when you could just use a USB condensor mic which pretty nuch sounds the same

  • @Icemoney22 um no they do not...

  • @macc300 um yeah they do. Depends on which mic you buy and how much you're willing to shell out

  • How do I make my USB microphone give a better sound as if I were using phantom power? I always feel like the sound is flat or it is too sensitive. Is it just the software that I need to help or is it the interface?

  • does a mic like this make your singing voice sound better

  • Hey man. thanx 4 the vid. i got a rode n2t-a goin into a fast track ultra. and im getting alotta hiss wen recording acoustic guitar coz i hav to turn up the gain. i need to eliminate the hiss. would u recommend a mic pre or a phantom powered mixer to solve this problem?

n2ta into mixer / mic pre, into fast track ultra then into pc via usb

  • If the guy has a usb mic then no he don't need an audio interface to record his vocals!! I have a samson usb mic and I use Sonar 8 PE I just plugin and record!! But my question is can you use the usb mic with the m audio interface to record vocals??

  • This video is helpful. I've been showing some friends how to record at home. Perhaps the video I made will be helpful for home users. Thanks for all the technical details. These days it's much easier to obtain a high quality recording at home.

  • Which do you think is better an audio interface or an audio card? Lets say I have to hook up 2 condenser microphones to record vocals and acoustic guitar, which is better?

    I'm looking a M-Audio Fast Track Mobile USB Audio/MIDI

And I'm also looking at M-Audiophile 2496 PCI Digital Audio Card.

Loved the video Thanks so much!

  • i just wanted something cheap xD what cheap mics would you suggest buying for just general use?

  • Hi I have an Audio Technica AT2020 with a M-Audio Fast track. I was told i need a Pantom Power supply so im just wondering how that works. Do I Take the XLR from my condenser min and put it in the input but what cable do i need for the "Thru" slot to plug it into the M-Audio Fasst track? Great appreciated if you replyed thanks.

  • i have a lexicon lamda . and it came with cubase l.e now i did the set up and i go to create new project . i cant record, now i have a radio shack mixer that is ment for my turn tables i wnt to hook it ll up! cn u help me ?

its not fantum power so will it help with my mic? the guy in gitar center said just do the mic strigth from the lexicon..

  • Dazzelya im having a big problem here! and i hope u could help me I'm using a samson c01u usb mic and the thing is that if im trying to record my voice over music i dont get any realtime playback of my vioce through my headphone

P.S. i have tryed setting it from the sound card(m-audio fast track pro) (volume control panel thing ) nothing works maybe you could tell me if im gonna need something else to salve this problem like a machine or software or somthing? please help

  • CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE: i have a tascam us-1641 audio interface (usb) and a audio technica at-2035. HOW DO I CONNECT IT TO MY COMPUTER! thanks.

  • Hi man, how's the alesis IO interface? Cause I'm planning to buy the IO26 in a couple of weeks;I thought I'd go motu ultralite mk3 but, after reading about a sound dropout bug (there's a video on youtube that a guy posted),well I thought maybe Alesis IO26 is better, cause I need at least 6 outputs and a lot of inputs (in the future u know, maybe I could start recording bands etc)

  • I would go for Motu over Alesis any day. :) I only bought the unit as a replacement for my little writing room at home. I wouldn't buy it again (for several reasons. My two biggest peeves are 1: The unit starts up on 100% volume. The second one is that the volume wheel doesn't have a visible notch to show how loud the volume is set.)

  • do you need a special cord or what kind of cord do you needd

  • Just a basic XLR to XLR mic cable (male to female).

  • I synchronize the separate audio and video tracks in Adobe premiere pro (although you could probably also use windows movie maker etc.)

    Cakewalk is fine too.

  • Very helpful. Thank you.

  • Thank you. :)

  • so for me to record all i need to do is buy a condenser mic and a audio interface?

  • Indeed!

  • You could buy a Blue Icicle With is an Audio Interface for only 50 bucks, i have one it works good

  • Unless you need more than a single input. If that's not a problem then sure, you could get one of those.

  • So if you have a condenser mic, do you recommend a Mic Pre Amp and a Audio Interface for vocal recording thru a computer or only a Audio interface?

  • Hi,

The audio interface is a soundcard and a mic pre in one. Just get the interface (make sure it provides phantom power, most under $100 often don't).

  • Wwaait.. so once i get a condenser mic, theres a interface that comes with it. How am i suppose to know whether its good enough?

  • Depends on your setup and budget. For example, I just ordered the Apogee One which only works for Macs. I could have got a Duet, but I don't have that much gear and will only use it for the mic. If you are a beginner than spend less for your interface.

  • OH okay so ANY interface would be good enough for the mic to be used as a replacement for the sound card in my com now?

  • Ok, i'll break it down. In order for your condenser mic to work it needs phantom power. You can get phantom power from a mic pre amp, mixer, or audio interface. If you plan on recording music on your computer, you will need an audio interface so the computer can pick up the signal from the mic or instrument. You choose the interface depending on the program you are using and budget. For example, Pro tools requires the M Box audio interface. Some programs accept any type of audio interface.

  • OH okay i get it, im using adobe audition and sound booth are they versatile on the interface?

  • Yeah, adobe audition is cool edit and pretty much works with any interface. I use to use the US122L with my PC. The US122L is a USB connected audio interface. Some people say that the firewire connected audio interfaces are the best and gives you less Latency. However, the One is a USB connected interface is works pretty good. What is your budget looking like?

  • im in asia now, so the prices of things here are more. Im willing to spend around 200 sgd. [Singapore dollars] What if like the interface isnt a usb one? its the normal mic one

  • 200sgd = about $150. You can get an M-Audio fast track they're pretty nice for that price plus they come with pro tools, so you would get the interface as well as the popular recording program.

  • Thanks Ramel for helping him out.

    Vandom, you are all set?

  • i have a simple setup using a berhinger 502 mixer, nady dynamic mic and im running windows vista recording with Magix Music Studio 12 Delux. when i record i get this buzzing sound in the playback. what am i doing wrong?

  • @tdollarz2007yahoo

Buzzing huh... Is your gain up to high? Perhaps you are hearing your computer (fans). Do you have powered speakers you run cables to with jack connectors? If the connectors aren't balanced you might get some buzz too. Let me know..

  • hoping you can help me out I cant get my audio interface to work properly with the software that I'm using. i hava a tascam us-144 interface and using it with ableton live 8. i downloaded the driver so it could be recognized and everything seems to come up fine but no sound, i can see the sound bar go up when i speak in to it but still no sound. im currently using a usb cable wondering if i should switch to midi. have you ever ran into something like that? thanks appreciate any help

  • Did you make sure your preferences are set to the in's and out's of your interface?

  • @jeahwateva

Don't switch to MIDI. MIDI isn't actual audio, it's just (note) information (which note, velocity, duration etc).

Did you switch on monitoring on the channel you were trying to listen to?

  • i have the samson co1u with the sonar1 soft i plug in everything but i can record using the mic i cant get past a message saying "you didnt select any MIDI outputs, therefore you wont be able to hear anything!" what is a midi output i did further research and i seen on a video that the microphone itself was the midi output what do i need to do?

  • I meant i cant record using the mic

  • Send me a message with what you use exactly and how you have it set up. Midi has nothing to do with actual audio. It's nothing more than note information.

  • its cool man i just went and bought another mic thanks for replying.

  • the equipment im using is an C-1 Condenser M BOX pop sheld obvious STAND acid pro and the cables AND A LAPTOP IS THERE A CERTAIN LAPTOP FOR THE M BOX TO PLUG INTO I USED A LAPTOP 2 RECORD B4 SO IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED SUM1 ANSWER AND GUY WHO MADE THIS VIDEO ANSWR FOR ME 2 THNX

  • There isn't a certain laptop you would need but perhaps it is a compatibility issue.. Send me a message with what you use exactly (software etc) and I'll try to help you out.

  • Hi, I am new to recording.

I already have a dynamic mic. If I wanted to use it to record on the computer would this set up work?

Mic - (XLR - XLR cable) -> USB audio interface with built in preamp - (USB cable) -> PC.

Assuming this will work, can you recommend any good USB audio interfaces under £100 / $163?

So far I have looked at: M-Audio Fast Track 2 and Art Tube MP Project Series. I would like to get it as cheap as possible without compromising quality too much. Thanks

  • definitely will work. make sure you get a condenser, because im sure youre not only doing instruments.

  • the E-MU 0202 USB is a great choice in terms of audio interfaces - it has a mic input and a line-in.

  • i have one but i cant get the interface to work, i dont kno wats wrong with it i need help

  • Send me a message with what you have exactly. I'll try to help out if need be.

  • Hello there. I'm thinking of buying a condenser microphone ( Behringer B1). I was hoping to be able to use this with my Boss Br600 eight track recorder to record vocals and mic my amp. Is this possible and would i need phantom power for this? Your help would be much appreciated.

  • Hi, all condenser mics need phantom power so you'll have to buy a cheap mic pre (for your purpose you should be able to find something aroudn 40 bucks). Micing your amp will best be done with a cheap dynamic mic. These don't need phantom power. Send me a message if you can't find the right box.

  • i'm trying to record live for youtube, but even tho i have my m-audio hooked up to the laptop i can't hear the music when i play it back only me singing accapella??? can you help me????

  • Hi,

Send me a message with how you have things setup (and which prog you use) and I'll try to help you out.

  • yo dude whats up..... what do you think of MXL condenser mics???? i am lookin at buying either the v67i or the 4000.... doyou have any thoughts on those

  • avoid them when you have enough money for something else. I've heard than they are nooot the best.

  • ya i think i may go wit the akg 420.. .have you heard anything about them

  • Personally, I like AKG, but you really should see if you can try them before you buy them (from a vocalist. Not a musician.) You have to find one that fits your voice. Right now I use AKG perceptions (all my latter videos minus the chorus videos use them) and I find them great for my uses. This, though, goes without saying I AM in a different price range. I have not researched any of the microphones you have mentioned. I've also heard a lot of people that like Rode mics in that price range

  • Hi. I haven't tried any of the two but any mic that compliments your voice will do you just fine. Price won't determine what suits you. The mic itself will. Good luck:) (If you can. Try several and keep which you like best).

  • Not too good apparently.. try something else.

  • hi i want to buy a condenser microphone

i looked at the samson usb mics

    and also the rode mics

i make youtube singing videos mainly using software on my apple mac called imovie

but im not sure how it all works i used to just plug in my old mic into an amp then record my video.

but i want to gain the best quality vocals on my video should i get a usb mic or a different compresser mic how do i link it up to my computer?

    x

  • Hi,

What's wrong with your current setup (if anything)? In your case I would stick to a usb condenser mic for the simple fact that it's simple. Going the conventional route would require an external audio interface (at least twice to three times the money of a single usb condenser).

How to connect it? Install the drivers and plug it in.

Btw, there is no such thing as a compressor mic. I think you are referring to a dynamic mic.

  • yeah i meant a condenser mic

    the cost doesnt matter

but if the usb will be a hell of a lot easier i should probably chose a samson usb mic

but if i was to buy a non usb condenser mic i would need to get what?

    thanks x

  • An audio interface (like the silver 'box' in my video) a regular mic (be it dynamic, condenser etc) and slightly more hassle installing it. An audio interface is nothing more than an external sound card made for recording. The usb mics have it built in.

Usb will be much more user friendly.

  • ok thank you very much x

  • please help me once again....i try all the thing like m-audio n at2020..all ok...i also can hear my voice in the headphone...but how i want record it using the laptop...i dont know about the output and input that must be use in computer..i use the mixcraft 4...please

  • I've never used mixcraft but at least you can hear your voice. In most (if not all) programs you have to assign the input. Create a mono track (single mic is always mono, there is no need to create a stereo track) and assign as your input the input in which the mic is plugged into. This is usually input 1. The output should remain as default (stereo out L+R). Press the record enable button (arming the track to record) and then press record.

  • thanx....now i can record my music...only one thing...when i record n hear my voice in the headphone through the m-audio fast track pro ,i can both left n right....but when i hear in the earphone through the laptop...my voice only can be hear at the left earphone n the music both of them...why?how i can hear to the both left n right at the laptop?please

  • Hi. Make sure you create a MONO track. Not stereo for your vocals. Inputs go from left to right so in a stereo recording ( two mics), input 1 is left and 2 is right. That's probably what you are experiencing. :)

  • ok thanx for helping me.....i will try it....

  • Does it work? Yes? You'll be fine ;)

  • i bought at2020 but not a usb at2020 ,yamaha msp3 speaker but i dont know how to connect this thing to my laptop...please help me....what is audia interface?function of mixer?im sorry im new in this...please help me

  • Hi, an audio interface is basically an (often) external 'soundcard' made for basic recording and playback needs. It connects to your computer via firewire/usb (or pci) and replaces the stock soundcard in your pc. You connect your mic ,guitar and/or line sources (keyboard etc) to the interface to record. The speakers are also connected to the interface and controlled via the volume pot on the interface. An audio interface is not a function of a mixer.

  • However, there are also mixers which have usb connectivity. You can use it standalone (for band practice) of connect it to the pc to record your sources. I do not suggest you get a mixer audio interface. Just get a normal external one that provides phantom power (phantom power is 48+volt power that powers the condenser mic. Without it, the mic won't work. Dynamic and ribbon mics do not need phantom power).

I hope you now know enough.

  • audio interface = external sound card with preamps and whatever goodies it has.

Needs Phantom Power for your mic !!

    i have the 2020 too.

    Good choice :)

  • thanx for the information...very useful...so i bought M Audio fast track pro for the audio interface..is that ok?how about the software for the recording that must be intall in laptop?what kind of software is good?mixcraft 4?is that ok?

  • The fast track should be fine. Anything from Audacity, to Cool edit to Cubase etc will be just fine.

  • Thx.

at first I didn´t understand your answer.

    That´s why I asked twice.

    Now I got it :D

  • Sorry for all the questions but,

    what mixer would you recommend???

  • "You don't need one of those small mixers, so I wouldn't bother buying one. "

You don't need a mixer, I already said this twice.

The mixing is done in the software itself. A usb/firewire mixer has a bunch of stuff on it that is useless for general recording. For a rehearsal space, of I get that but not for what you want to do.

Just get an interface with the amount of inputs (2, 4, 8 or more. 4 should be fine) you need and that's it.. You connect everything to the interface. That's it.

  • And sorry for my English....

    I´m German :D

  • Your English is fine. I'm British/Mexican :p.

I'm HookedOnHardware btw. I didn't see I commented with my business account.

  • Thx for the answer :D

Can you give me some tipps please :D

I always looked for things I should buy, but I always change my mind. :-D

How about a firebox and a mackie 402 mixer??

  • A firebox is fine if you need the extra inputs. If you only need two or four, then there are more affordable options out there.

You don't need one of those small mixers, so I wouldn't bother buying one.

  • Hi,

I wanted to buy an M Audio Nrv 10 Mixer.

    It has a firewire connectivity...

Do you know somethin about this mixer and what do i need for recording except the mixer and mics?

  • Haven't used it personally but I always recommend 'normal' audio interfaces over small mixer interfaces. Get something around the same price with either two or 4 inputs (more if necessary).

  • whats up man

i have a sontronics stc-2 condensor, and alesis usb mixer.

    the quality is ok

but what do i need to make it awesome?

  • Be awesome :). A mic (pre-amp etc) is only as good as its source. You might have to improve your acoustics, you might have to work on your mic technique.

A good mixing engineer in a proper studio will make it better. Once that is done; a good mastering engineer (a real one, not the mix engineer in the same studio) will be able to put the finishing touches on it ;)

  • Also you need a extention to hook up to the XLR CABLE to that way you can plug it right into your computers mic jack.

  • 3: A mic that connects via a usb cable (either condenser, which has a built in interface and phantom power or a dynamic usb mic) does not use an XLR cable. It uses a usb cable (hence the name). All other standard mics (non usb) connect via XLR cables which, as you stated, has three prongs.

As I mentioned before, please do not spread misinformation. In addition please read the info section and listen to the video as the question and answer was specific.

  • You don't need a mixer or phantom power. All you need is a ( XLR CABLE ) but it depends on what type of Condenser you have cause some are usb's and some have 3 prongs on the bottom of the mic and thats what you hook up the XLR CABLE to.

  • I appreciate you trying to chime in but don't give out misinformation.

1: ALL condenser microphones require phantom power. They do not work otherwise.

Dynamic mic's do not (like the one you have on your channel).

2: You do not need a mixer perse, I was talking about audio interfaces which include the mixer type interfaces with usb/firewire connectivity. An interface is always preferred over simply a mixer or plugging straight into the pc.

  • okk thank you

  • we are actually big choir we are currenly using 12 microphones and 5 instruments tht connect to a mixer so yea cn u help me or no>?

  • How are you recording now? Just the 17 inputs to the stereo output? All you need to do is to feed all the inputs to a stereo track and record it. If you need better recordings or more control over the recording the best, most sensible and cost effective thing to do is hire a FOH engineer (front of house). He'll be able to and record you and show you what you will probably need.

  • ok thanks and im in a church choir and we wanted to record the whole choir so yea pprobably all channels

  • All you would need for a choir are two mics or a single stereo mic placed high up and in the right place. You certainly do not need 32 channels for a simple choir.

  • what do i need to connect a 32 channel mixer to a computer! i kno its an interface but i cnt find one

  • Depends what you want/need. Do you want/need to capture every single channel separately or do you just want to record the stereo signal coming from the mixer? If you want/need all separate channels it will cost you anywhere from 4 to 8 thousand dollars. If all you want is the stereo output then all you need is a simple interface that won't cost much more than a hundred bucks. Just a simple one with (a stereo) jack in and out.
