  • woah woah woah my ozzie (australian) grandad recorded all episodes as they were shown this could mean alot

  • @smashupsomecheez if he recorded all of them PLEASE for the fans sake see if he still has them! I so want to see the tenth planet part 4!

  • Sometimes I wish I could just go back in time and use a camera of the future to tape EVERYTHING

  • Zimbabwe would be difficult to confirm due to the political climate. Ethiopia was the last country to screen it, I believe the BBC are checking this. The Caribbean islands should be confirmed first, especially Barbados as they screen most Hartnells. Malta, Thailand and Mauritus sounds interesting not sure if they've been checked. Nigeria and Uganda have been checked, I'm assuming Ghana as well? Iran also received two episodes. And then there's Sierra Leone... :( :( :(

  • All the countries that you've mentioned have been checked.

Nigeria proved particularly useful and returned prints of other previously missing episodes. Sierra Leone could have had nearly every missing episode but was unfortunately burnt to the ground in 1999, during the country's civil war.

  • how come the best ones get lost D=

  • w00t "The Reign of Terror" is being reanimated! Sweet

  • WHY ARE THERE SO MANY MISSING????!!!!

  • @JojoChampion You have been officially proved wrong :D

  • @MrSpidron Whose that?

  • Don't worry, when we have time machines we will take camera's on a Recording Device to the past and record all the missing episodes =)

  • @MrDeathrock9 Nice thought but the fact that no-one from the future has gone back and recorded them means we'll never get them. If they had we would have them now! If someone from say 2175 went back to 1965 and recorded them, we would have them now. You cant say "they havent gone back yet" because they would be from the future, and so no, they havent gone back yet from OUR viewpoint NOW, but their future is NOW to them. Yes, bit complex but I know what I mean!

  • I've just watched a reconstruction of Marco Polo - Now I'm even more frustrated that it doesn't exist anymore...

  • Uh.. it's been a long time, and I don't know how to get ahold of them, but I think i know where quite a few of these are..

who do I get a hold of?

  • @sgdeluxedoc Well you could ring this tight git in Manchester who also has episodes stashed away and is too tight to hand them in. 07425 426715.

  • @MrSpidron Do you know what episodes he has got

  • @samgamer12 He has Invasion part 1 with no sound and the last couple of minutes missing and he had the Underwater Menace 2 LONG before it turned up recently. Makes you wonder how many copies of each episode exist. Assuming the story of the collector finding it are true of course??He also had Tomb of the Cybermen before it coincidentally turned up from Hong Kong (yeah, right!).

  • @samgamer12 He has them on VHS and Betamax(!!) too. So I dont know if he has the actual film reels. My guess is he sold Underwater Menace2 to that collector and kept a copy for himself.

  • You won't believe this! But 2 Episodes have JUST Turned up out of the Blue! Galaxy 4, Ep 3 & The Underwater Menace - EP 2! I AM SOOOOOOO EXCITED!

  • Wiped is a great book if somewhat repetetive. I found the whole read both enlightening and disheartening. I'd love more episodes to be found, but I fear that's our lot. Someone proove me wrong ;)

  • Watching this was like watching a chilling documentary about a horrific war crime!!!

  • Well done on your focus on this topic. My hat goes off to all those who preserved and then restored ALL the "missing" episodes' soundtracks, what a service that has been to WHO fandom! And I will be forever grateful to all those hard-working fans, old and young, who make recons with visuals, for most of us to enjoy! Those 27 stories include many of the finest tales from 60's WHO. Yes Johnnyfanboy, 145 of 253 episodes, good to have those!

  • I don't think I'll read that book - too depressing!

  • @outofthegreenmist haha, good point some parts certainly are. At least frustrating, for example the BBC followed this paper trail for a Marco Polo episode and it took months i believe and all they found at the end of it all was a original Marco Polo episode film can which was empty in 1990! But the book certainly shows signs of hope. TANGIBLE hope! i want to know why the BBC hasn't asked those countries mentioned in the video and more, to confirm if they do or do not have them?!

  • @MrClassicDoctorWho Let's hope something turns up. Interesting point about the old 60's video-recorders. However, as videotape must have been expensive then (the reason why the BBC themselves wiped so many shows), many people must have taped over things they'd recorded. Even in the 80's, good quality tapes were dear. Now that they're rare again, they're going back up in price - if you can even find them!

  • @outofthegreenmist It's not all depressing. It also makes one grateful for what we do have. By 1975, the BBC had wiped all its master videotapes of the 1960s episodes. The only ones that officially existed were a handful that were transmitted from 35mm film, such as episode 5 of The Dalek Invasion of Earth, and The Wheel in Space Episode 6. Now we have 145 of those 253 episodes, not to mention all the soundtracks.

  • Really interesting video. I did quite a bit of an English speaking exam on the missing episodes of Doctor Who. It's sad to think that they were wiped all those years ago because people thought no one would want to watch them again. That's the exact opposite of what people want now. They couldn't see that then. I think The Moonbase or The Wheel in Space, I can't remember which, was found only a few years ago in Japan in almost perfect condition. There's still hope Whovians, there's still hope.

  • @LongStripyScarf i think theres hope too. There are just too many that are unaccounted for! If there are no more surviving episodes then we are very unlucky. Its just a question of finding them while they are in playable conditions in my opinion!

  • @LongStripyScarf i think theres hope too. There are just too many that are unaccounted for! If there are no more surviving episodes then we are very unlucky. Its just a question of finding them while they are in playable conditions in my opinion! Some episodes may indeed be lost forever. Like the Feast of Steven but im sure theres more out there at least!
