what would make him think that the fumes would go up straight from the meat to the helitcopter in a linear fashion? he clearly didn't factor the wind in for that.
the only way the copter would attract the fumes is if the copter blades vacuumed the vicious fumes and that the pilot wouldn't be protected. the pilot being protected would supercede this and let plan B go.
