Live action Guyver was pretty weird (at least the first one, haven't seen the second). it's like they were trying to make it like a one-man Power Rangers movie, but at some point said "fuck it" and they threw in a bunch of profanity and gore.

i thought the Speed Racer movie was pretty good, and from what i hear, the Casshern and Yatterman movies were great. iirc, Tatsunoko did help animate NGE, so maybe some of that good fortune well spread to the live action NGE movie

you've said nothing that indicates a significant problem with the live action adaption. this is just pointless rambling.

first of all, evangelion's length is not a problem since it can be done as a trilogy. as far as ethnicity goes, white actors will not ruin the film. a world as rich as evangelion's and this is what you're worried about them possibly changing? and assuming it will suck simply because previous adaptions sucked is absolutely ridiculous

it takes place in japan. many of the major scenes in the show were locations in japan. Plus a lot of the scenes in the show revolved around some things that were exclusive to japanese culture. I would rather a japanese company do it; and hopefully in japanese.

It may take place in japan but no scene was in any major location that was in japan and what about Japanese culture from my extensive knowledge I know that almost nothing in NGE revolved exclusive to Japanese culture. In My option you can make evangelion take place in any of the superpowers country's China USA Germany. The religion isn't integral to the plot anyway. You don't really need it.

The characters are the most important part of Eva. Do that right (which shouldn't be that hard if you make a little effort...seriously I've seen some pretty good fan-fictions) and you pretty much have it made.

I for one am looking forward to this.

If it's great...YAY!!! A GREAT MOVIE.

If it's okay...Then I killed an hour or two.

If it's bad...Life goes on.

I'm a big Eva fan and I hate it as much as I love it. I can see this being adapted using European descent actors/actresses being station in the US in the Eva universe(as much as I will hate it but it's doable). The more important thing for me per-say would be the characters themselves because if they can't have me hate Shinji then they obviously failed(as much as I hate his character I do believe his character type was very important to the show).

as far as the story line goes, Evangelion is a psychological movie that DOES in fact deal with the contravercial topics of religion. The christian community will definitely NOT like this movie, in fact I am most certain they will hate it. However, it does bring to light the fact that you are the only person who can change your world, no one else. You must make decisions that will change your perspective on the world and you must live with them. That is what eva is all about.

As it stands it would appear Anno will probably not be involved in this in the next couple of years because of the new animated Eva films and Gainax is starting ANOTHER project. I doubt this film will ever be made, Gainax wants it done right and I think they'd wait to acquire the staff and the cash to create what they felt was an Eva film or trilogy done right.

Now, I would like to say that you have a lot of your information in order. However, the production stages are a lot closer then you said. It's now within the next two years. As a die hard fan i must say that seeing a white person named SHinji just wouldn't cut it, so I agree with you on that one. Gainax is the controling hand in this production, as well as Project Eva, so dont expect to see too many changes for the western world.

when i started listening to your rant, I was going to tear you apart. However, after hearing the entire thing, I have to agree with a lot of what you say. I am a die hard evangelion fan, I have the entire box collection as well as both movies. I do not like the new versions because it takes away from a lot of the story line of the old ones. Interesting rant. My brother and I used to joke around that if they were to make a live action EVA, that the director should be the 6th Sense guy for his plot twist endings. Considering EVA's reputation of their endings, this guy would be the right guy for the job. For the LA Guyver, I remember Solid Snake plays him, lol.
