  • Fantastica accoppiata!!!!Lenny&Zimerman

  • The first three and a half minutes are some of my favorites by Beethoven.

  • Just curious. Why is there so much importance placed upon a conductor, when everyone is looking at their sheet music?

  • @01EVH dont forget that although they played once in the concert they probably have rehearsed multiple times already! and the conductor led everything through :)

  • @01EVH

    are you serious?!?!?! O.o

  • @elypetrof

    No. It's a joke.

    Just for you.

    Have a great day.

  • @01EVH I agree. When the musicians have reached this level of accomplishment, the conductor is merely an ornament.

  • I am studying this concert these days... I can't describe in words how epic I find this opus, and what I feel when I play it...

  • Damn! I love him!!!

  • Beautiful music and video, thank you for the invite

  • Transcendent!

  • Thank you for uploading!

  • wait, they play Beethoven. I gotta fasten the seat belt.

  • Uno dei concerti più belli mai scritti! Un'interpretazione sublime. Zimerman insuperabile! Uno dei pochi veri Pianisti.

  • In my humble opinion, one of the most incredible pianists of his generation. Without his playing much of the beauty of these incredible works would have been left unspoken :D

  • The intro to this movement is such a proud display of the the three basic chords in tonal music.

Loves how Zimerman plays it too =)

    I love music!

  • Maravilloso

  • Bravo!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • 3 dislikes ? they must be deaf....

  • Bernstein +Zimerman = Brilliant!

!Beethoven inmortal! La mejor interpretación que he escuchado.

  • The best virsion, so amaizing......

  • i wouldnt want to run into these two in a dark alley.

  • imparato tutto ad orecchio.........qualcosina sfugge sempre

  • the best...

  • Zimerman plays notes crystal clear! Kudos to bernstein! I bought a recording of this work played by Brendel and conducted by Rattle! Brendel as usual in command of the piece but the VPO sounded little weak!

  • I love Bernstein.Zimerman is a perfect pianist.

  • Wow! The sound quality is right up there with the best I've heard. And musically I can't find fault with it. This doesn't sound too mechanical or contrived to me. Bravo!

  • minuto 5:45 a minuto 6:00

  • MAJESTICALLY AWESOME !!

  • I came back to watch this video and noticed 2 dislikes. WTF did you dislike? The French Horn player's haircut? FFS. Heathen

  • @habana999 excellently put! I think the word 'Heathen' sums it all up. There really are so many heretics in this world!

  • Efectivamente.Una divina pareja para una obra excepcional.

  • Its always good thing to critisize perfomers. A composition is like a "platonic idea" and a performance is just one way to do it.

  • semplicemente STRAORDINARIO!!!!!!

  • Geniales!!!!!!! :-))

  • Leonard Bernstein doesn't know how to make music. This Zimmerman is a total fake. The orchestra is too forceful, loud, and unbalanced as the sections all clamoring to be heard. Total waste of time.

  • @freeqwerqwer I saw your comments on a lot of videos criticizing Cortot, Rubinstein, Zimmerman, and Bernstein... You must be crazy, or renegade, i'm sure.

  • @hellboyreloaded ... dont worry he is just an idiot ... probably if beethoven was still alive he would say awful things about him too ... what a moron!!!

  • @freeqwerqwer You know, if you want to say such things about greatly respected artists like Zimmerman to grab attention to your otherwise insignificant self, fine. But at least back your statements up, or no-one will take you seriously. Have you won the Chopin Competition?

  • @xiangyik, Zimmerman is a dry musican. He plays from his brains, but not from his heart nor his imagination. One can tell that while he tries hard to play "perfectly", his soul is not into it. Undoubtedly he is talented and skilled but that is not enough. The real question is whether the public wants to hear his playing over and over and........I'm afraid that his playing does not endear the general public.

  • @freeqwerqwer Probably the most absurd thing about your comment is that you feel you "can tell his soul is not into it." Its completely reasonable to judge what is and isn't appealing to you as a member of the general public but it is unreasonable to, at the same time, consider yourself such an expert. Also, anyone who knows anything would tell you that one of Zimermans most prominent features is his ability to produce with such little effort. Tries hard to play perfectly? Come on man. Do better

  • Comment removed

  • @freeqwerqwer You said "he tries hard to play perfectly, but his soul is not into it." That's quite a statement. At which points int he performance is he soul not into it? And which musician, in your opinion, better exemplifies the qualities you want to see in a musician and performance?

  • @peakman2006, Zimmerman has the annoying tendency to play contrively, too controlled, unnaturally, showing off his pianistic skills rather than expressing his visions of art, and listeners can spot a setup. .....but, upon rehearing this video, I'll admit that Zimmerman played charmingly well in this Emperor's concerto, exhibiting great mature finesse with a right amount of a young man's zeal and vitality ---he himself looks to be about 34, like Napoleon who became emperor at 35.

  • @freeqwerqwer Bernstein doesn't know how to make music? Zimer man is a fake? Total waste of time. I can only imagine that his is fully a tongue-in-cheek sarcasm. I cannot begin to imagine how you could actually back-up statements like that, and moreso, which performances you would point to as an improvement.

  • This version is' completely out of style and understanding Beethoven

  • After Arrau.. Zimerman...

  • no words can explain how much i love this. i've heard this first movement so many times...and it still gives me goosebumps. beautiful doesn't even start describing the piece, i wish my love of beethoven and his music could reach him somehow... hope he has a damn high place in heaven.

  • Prachtig!, een werkelijk prachtige uitvoering.

  • A brilliant performance. Although it's one movement of three in the Emperor concerto, the first stands on its own as a masterpiece. Majestic and powerful.

  • Awesome.... Great performing...

  • Certified Intergalactic Sound!

  • Maybe it's my ears playing tricks on me, but the version I can hear here seems to miss entire bars and sequences of bars from what I can hear on my LP's and CD's... Believe me, there's no way a version audible on the PC can be compared with one from a good hi-fi or - "a consummation devoutly to be wish'd" in a concert hall. Gheorghij

  • Everybody speaks about the interpreters: but it's BEETHOVEN ! He is to clap, to applaud, to cheer! We pay too much attention to the interpreters. But the author is the thing!

  • once in a while, do try to wake up to this piece....it makes a world of difference.

  • The Gods at work:Zimerman and Bernstein

  • great pianist and great shampoo

  • @pedracci That's CLEVER!!! Gheorghij

  • Bernstein!!!!!

  • Too bad Zimerman can't perform with Maestro Berstein anymore :(

  • great

  • he is like jesus........

  • THE GREAT PERFORMANCE BY BERNSTEIN & ZIMERMAN THIS ,,EMPEROR,,

  • woows, .. very nice.

  • I need a copy of this performance in DVD....

  • @moonbal Can you come down to a more modest, simple audio CD? What do you need to SEE??!!! Just listen to the music!!! As to performers, I suggest Emil Gilels at the piano, Kyril Kondrashin as orchestra conductor (USSR State Symphonic Orchestra). Gheorghij

  • Certified Intergalactic! The best!

  • stupenda!

Gheorghij

  • Very, very good performance by Zimerman & Bernstein... my second favorite Emperor (after Arrau & Davis Emperor.)

  • 5: 46 siempre sublime

  • wow ! I had never heard such a performance before.

  • majestuoso!!!!......soberbio!!....gracias por compartirlo!!

  • love this man's trills!!

  • wow the violin sounds amazing

  • damn how many concertos did they play in this concert?

  • Simply magic..I wish if i could only for once in my life to be in a hall like this. Listening this great orchestra and this amazing pianist playing Beethoven..Bravo Bravo

  • @costas1010 Costas. I'vebeen in this hall, musicverein..it is a beautiful hall, it is well worth visiting. Vienna is a beautiful city. Been there 6 years ago, with very good memories...I assume you are greek from Greece.. Vienna is a blocks away...just go..

  • BRAVI, TUTTI!!

  • incredible...the best..

  • Spectacular. Bravo!

  • without word...sin palabras...senza parole...

  • wonderfulll!

  • arghhhh 6.04

  • 5:07 perfecto!

  • Wowowo perfect.

Bernstein and Zimerman made a divine couple, and they left us this wonderful "Emperor".

  • He belongs in the highest echelon of great pianists. Extremely gifted and musical. His recording of the second movement of Chopin's second piano concerto is the most exquisite I've ever heard.

  • I agree with your comment about the Chopin Piano concerto, is just....divine

  • He could even look like as a monster to me, what has it got to do with music?his piano is so strong, so beautiful, yet delicate and precise..delightful!

  • he look fit as a caveman

  • and u r lyk a person lived and escaped from a slum and looking for a computer to write bad comments

  • Is Chuck Norris at the piano???

  • A mix of Chuck Norris and young Obi-Wan, I think. It's the only way I can explain such powerful performance.

  • lol!!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Arrau's sucked, a strange interperetation and the beginning was to slow. You try playing it.

  • Arrau's Emperor is recognized worldwide as being the best performance of the piece. better than any other living or dead pianist'sperformance,.... there is nothing strange about it,..... it is majestic, and sublime,...

  • I shall have a look and see, somehow I doubt it! Something makes me think you are biased... you cannot deny the absolute chemistry between Bernstein, Zimerman and the orchestra.... shame the audience were so anal.

  • Yes, I love " Stefano Figliola " piano interpretation of Beethoven " Emperor " concerto...

  • Krystian Zimerman shocked the audience of LA Walt Disney Concert Hall on Sunday when he stopped mid-show saying that he would no longer perform in a country whose military wants to take over the world.

  • Can you give me a link to the story on that?

  • Sorry I don't have it any more

Just copy paste part of the text in

Google and you should find it

  • That wasn't "story"

    just short news,

    small article

  • *cries*

  • 5:33 my favorite part =].

  • Wiener Philharmoniker and Zimerman is a perfect match.

  • amazing!

  • Very clear and vitruos interpretation.

Zimerman's play like a cristal, every notes like a rain drop. His Styl remebered me to Glenn Gould.

  • Zimerman's playing is so pure and light. Just divine.

  • thats just beautiful.... the second theme is so genius... nobody can write something like that nowadays

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • This piece and recording is giving me goosebumps..

    Its so incredible.

  • 5:09 you can hear all Beethoven's solitude. Incredible

  • Nothing less than brilliant.

  • Wow wonderful thanks for sharing this spiritual sound...

  • One of the really great recordings!! I just love it very much so!

  • Great video, Mr Stravinskij0 have you got Beethoven's 1 piano concerto performance by Bernstein and Zimerman?

  • Thank you so much! Great video! I enjoy watching and listening to it over and over.

  • Sublime on both Zimerman's and Bernstein's part. Zimerman's sharp, clear tone fits this piece extremely well. I love the part around 5:50.
