Amorphis take inspiration about their song and music from the finnish epic novel "Kalevala".In the epic a smith forges the sun the moon and the Sampo (a very important treasure for the inhabitants of a village in the story), then another village, a real dark and cold place, wants to dominate it (then you can understand the two colours: red/orange and white/light blue). I have interpreted that artowork in this way: a picture about the fight between these two villages. Bye bye

Second, your interpretation is incorrect. The tree resembles the Great Oak in Finnish mythology.

But In Flames though is still unconquered - in their genre, don't get me wrong. Maybe the best band ever, imo. :) Meshuggah's some freaky shit as well. Kind of hard to believe they formed up like 7 of hours from where I live.

@quickyway1 Im american, and i have realized how far impressive finnish/swedish metal is than american. Some other euro bands you might like though is skyfire, soilwork, disarmonia mundi, norther, swallow the sun(has tomi from amorphis is one of their songs), thaurorod(more power metal than folk) charon, tracedawn, and lunarsea. Those are the bands im into right now and are pretty awesome. Amorphis is still my favorite because honestly i found these guys first and their awesome.

Little info for other than Finnish ppl. Sampo is a magical artifact in national epic of Finland. The lyrics are about Blacksmith Ilmarinen, The "Skyforger" as he made the Sampo. The whole album is related to Kalevala and Ilmarinen.
