I just found and played this song in honor of my cousin Kenny from Farmingdale NY who just died. He was 5, I was 11. He was the cutest little blond boy, such an angelic face. He's in a better place.
this is my favorite record of my childhood... I won this 45 from a record station in Amarillo Texas for Ellory Queen Mystery Questions before school on the radio in the mornings... I won a box of 45s. This record was on top... my absolute favorite... I never could remember who sang it... NOW I do... Larry Hall... OMGoodness...how great. 1965 I got this.. Sandy is my name of course....
This song ranks as one of the all time classics . Anyone who was a teenager in the late 50's and early 60's cannot listen to "Sandy" without thinking back to some fond memory from that time period. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you for such a prompt reply and for letting me know that it was already posted. Would have sworn that I did a search for it and it wasn't there but quite obviously I am just totally losing it! I now have heard BOTH of my favorite Larry Hall songs and I am so thrilled. Thank you for taking the time to post and also to answer me.
This is one I have been looking for!!! Thank you. I hate to ask, but do you or does anyone have "The Loving Tree" by Larry Hall? Another favorite that I have not heard for a zillion years (almost).

@gmdallas1 Does anyone know who Sandy is? When I was in high school I was told that the song was written by her (Sandy's) father for her and that she went to Santa Fe High, Santa Fe Springs, CA. Can anyone add to this?
WOW! I'm a fool for Sandy. When is the last time you met a Sandy? Well way back in the day it was short for Sandra. Everything nice, sugar, spice. A great song from back in the day of convertibles, drive ins and ....FUN! With Sandy of course.
Saw her passing by everyday on her way to school.many many years ago in the late 50'. Blond hair blue eyes in a pony tail and it swayed. My first love, Sandy. She would be around sixty five years old today. Oh man, I be getting old.
I met Larry in the 1984,or 1985 in Corvallis, Oregon. He was a very nice guy but had some problems, like the most of us. He had his dreams and his hopes and his inner demons. I liked the man for what he was and how he treated me as a friend. I did not even know that he had some musik fame. Rest in peace Larry and God bless you.
Hilde if you read this I want to say hy. Hope you are doing well.
@combatautumn: How true!!.......sat behind Sandy in 7th and 8th grade........and knew her well over several years but never could get a date.........wrote to her while at sea in the late 60's.......contacted and met again in June, 2007.......my only hug from my Sandy.
I love this song, I have it on an oldies cd and play it all the time. I was in grade school when it was out but I remember it well, my neighbor was named Sandy.
Larry cut this tune in 57' on some Les Paul hand me down equipment . Made the Charts late 59' early 1960. Only one hit but that's Strand's fault..no payola..I guess. Larry Hall..fans..check out Kool Luv and Street Where I Live, also A Girl like You...The late great Larry Hall..Jeff and Suellen
Love this song. Remember it from when I was 9 y/o! It's got the most appealing beat and his voice is fine. Just a fabulous tune. Thanks for putting it on!
It's wonderful to see that people still listen to my dad's music. I listened to his album since I was born and know all the words to all his songs. Thank you for remembering him.
@gmdallas1 I was sorry to hear of your dad's passing several years ago. I understand he was residing in Oregon at the time. Was he still performing up there or doing something else altogether? Been listening to this song most of my life now! I've always wondered what he had been doing in the intervening years.
Your Dad's records are absolutely superb. "Sandy" is a masterpiece, as close to perfection as you can get. Music as good as this will always be remembered.
This song plus Dale Ward,s A letter from Sherry are two of my favorite obscure songs.WMCA and WINS both played these while WABC with their 14 record playlist never touched them..
What a find! I always loved this song and hadn't thought about it for decades. Yet, when I clicked on it tonight, I could sing every word of it plus hum along with the musical interlude in the middle! Amazing!
I am singing it too. It came out in about 1959. I liked it then, and still love it today. No ex g/f named Sandy.. Well, one, but I 'd rather forget ;)
Funny I had the Jonny Crawford version forever and I forgot that this guy was the original singer. Both versions are very good though. Good song. Takes me back many years.
There was a Sandy's at the corner of Sullivant and Demorest and we would stop there every afternoon after getting out of school at West High. Some time later I ran into the guy whose dad was the owner of Sandy's while we were in the Marine Corps. This song always reminds me of a girl I went to school with in junior high.. Sandy Ruzicka
if someone had said that about this song how would you possibly feel? i don't think we should ever diss music even if we dont enjoy what others are listening to. Everyone has a different taste in music. It doesn't matter what your listening to just as long as it takes you there....
Oh bull$hit. Quit the pol corr crap. Today's music is programming kids to kill, cheat, steal, fornicate and do anything that is ungodly.
We are paying the price today for the way we worshipped the beatles and elvis in the early 60's. If this dumb country would get back to worshipping God instead of people, we just might get back on our feet.
As it is, judgement is now hanging over our heads. (looked at the Dow lately?) What's ahead might make 1929 look like a holiday
First time I heard this song NOT on AM radio. Sounds wierd...a classic none the less. Takes me back to a time much removed from the bullshit of today. Thanks a bunch for posting.
Just wanted to thank you for posting this. I have been looking for this song for the past 13 years. I heard it a long time ago and had no idea who sang it. I asked everybody I knew if they had ever heard of this song( I even sang it to them) and they looked at me like I was on crack. Thank you so much.
@janiceimo Well, that particular song since then I found thanks to the help of the youtube community. However I am still troubled by one last song in my collection. Called "Highschool Days". I have it uploaded also. Thanks!
@m1garand427 Two possibilities - Bill Erwin and the 4 Jacks. Released twice, 1960 Pel #501 and 1962 Fairlane label. The first line of the 45 is high school days are almost over (a slow ballad). Also released by Billy Elder, Capital 4382 in 1960. My guess is we are talking about Bill Erwin. I hope this helps, let me know.
@m1garand427 The Billy Elder song is not the same as Bill Erwin. The Billy Elder song is a ballad and reminds me a great deal of "Greensleeves" by the Brothers Four.
1950s the time before the country went to hell.
