Don't worry about that 1960 Morgan Roadster. After the filming of this, a man bought the wreck and restored it. He kept it in a barn until Wayne Carini bought the car. The original owner was going to race it, but before he could, he suffered a heart attack, and died. Wayne Carini raced it for him. The most astonishing thing about this movie is that it was produced and distributed by a major Hollywood studio. Studio executives *loathe* unlikable characters and unhappy endings - theyre box-office poison.

I like to compare Roses to The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), which had the potential to be a similarly nasty black comedy (the main character doesn't die at the end of the novel, but his life is ruined) before it was lobotomized and castrated by clueless Warner Bros. executives.

@0814ma there are plenty of financial successful dark comedies that were released before and after this. dr. strangelove, fargo, harold and maude, the ladykillers etc.. i think the coen brothers have helped perfect it.
