I live in central Cape Town, and everyone in our flat block switched off their lights, however despite my having emailed our body corporate last week all our periferal lights were left on so it really didn't look any different. And looking out over town I didn't really notice any difference. Would have been quite a statment if Ellis Park had switched thier lights off even for 5 minutes just as a token of support.
So much for switching a few lights off...but the rest of Cape Town did not make much of an effort...Cape Town City Council could have done their bit in switching off street lights!

Maybe not in town, in the southern suburbs many lights were off. Cape Town did well considering it was the first time we participated in this.

I drove to Plattekloof to get a good view of the city. Cape Town could have done better.
