I was at this concert and it SUCKED. My husband and I were ready to write off REM for good. Michael sang with his back to the audience, it sounded terrible, and the next day in the paper he blamed the poor concert on the FANS. Fortunately, we saw them in July at an outdoor concert in Germany that ROCKED. It must have been opening night jitters in Oz because they had it together in Cologne.

@embossador Perth 1995 - Hey I was there as well, I didnt think it sucked as much as a lot of people said. I also went the next night and had a place at the foot of the stage and it was awesome. They were playing the 3 biggest albums of their career for the first time live in front of me. I thought it was a bit like being at the Beatles rooftop concert :-)

Oh Man were Stipe and Buck on Xanax or what....Ive seen them perform this before (twice) and it was fabulous...never heard them so off before...but just couldnt get that riff...and the start up to LMR was just bizarre...must have been an off night..which of course everybody has now and then...The two times I saw this live Buck played it on a National Steel...and just improvised the Mandolin riff...much better approach...

I'm not gonna use words for describing what is the feeling when you hear the song because it's pointless, y'get what I mean.

I'm replying cause ONE: I envy you a lot; TWO: you held me from asking questions about Buck's gear; THREE: a tip- I think it's played in open G minor-isn't it? Peter fucked up a few times here but it still makes the following Religion so small and poor...
