    If it sees you, will it continue to follow you even if you are out of its range?

  • i hate to be little johnny repeat but should you manage to escape the mobs LOS it should at least finish its final path until it stops moving. it would still be easy to avoid but less alien in behavior. another idea on top of the pathing thing could be added difficulty levels allowing different amounts of time for the mob to try and find you by moving around. though once the time is up they should return to their original position or patrol. metal gear solid is a prime example of what i mean.

  • You should release it as a standalone mod once it's finished, and incorporated into AdventureCraft.

  • Also, not all mobs should track by line of sight. In nature, animals use a variety of senses. Just look at sharks, for one good example. Perhaps creepers have psychic player-detection senses?

  • Really nice work! I hope you will add object permanence (Object_permanence on wikipedia) to the mobs, so they can at least track a player as well as a one year-old baby can. ;)

  • @anyuwant1 Erhm, vanillas path-finding is rather dull. It's easy to hide from mobs, they can't go around two blocks if you're behind them.

  • you needa set up a small lil addon that it can still "see" you for a second or so after you leave the FOV.. honestly would you just stop looking for someone the moment they get behind you? that way they will "search" for you for a second untill they loose interest (being dumb undead and such)

  • @theDMgamer They may be dumb, but they are hungry and persistent. They aren't going to just stop dead in their tracks when you leave their sight.

  • To add on to what @FilmSnapper said, you should also have it so that they can detect walls and when a player left the FOV by moving behind the walls so that the mob will look for the player for a short while before going about it's own business

  • This is awesome, but I don't like how once you leave it's field of vision it just stands there. If you have already been in it's field of vision or alerted it of your presence, it should continue to look around for you once you leave it's field of vision.

  • Awesome job, this throws the doors open for much more complicated interactions within MC. Hopefully it will be implemented in Vanilla MC but if not, this would make an amazing standalone mod. With some other modifications to mob AI, this could make MC combat much more interesting.

  • This needs to be in vanilla. It'd make combat so much more awesome. This and inter-mob communication would be cool. Like, the player would be able to pick off a lone mob but a group of mobs would have basically an expanded FOV because there are multiple mobs.

  • @T0by24 yeah, he should add in a few seconds of memory. So you have to stay out of site for a few seconds before he forgets about u and stops searching when he last saw you.

    Also, I wonder if he can see through the leaves in trees.

  • Hey Cryect, this is a nice looking mod I'm just stumbling upon it for the first time now, heavily into modding and modtools like this so I really appreciate someone having made something as awesome as this for Minecraft. But I have a question for you: Is it possible to turn off features like this FOV detection within your mod, so that map creators can decide whether they want it or not? Thanks :)

  • You should make it so that it patrols the area it last sees you at, so you need to quickly escape the area. Of course, you could do that in a different mob where an actual brain would fit.

  • I think there should be sound detection.....

    If someone sprints behind the zombies, they'll turn around and enter the detection mode to look around the blind spots from what he sees at the moment.

    After he checks out all the blind spots he goes straight back to the place where he stood on and go straight to wander mode. Makes the Zombies much more advanced.

    This + merge with Darkcraft = hard mode for MC even on Easy mode.

  • @goruu I'm planning to add sound detection but not going to do anything more advance for searching. Probably going to double or even triple mob sight range and then have it be modified by darkness.

  • @danelo13 Welcome to AI in most games! Really that is the point of AI often is how to make them not be omnipresent but instead seem to be more reasonable. I added this mainly because I was noticing after improving the path finding of mobs they were now too good at finding you (previously the path finding of zombies is always to run in a straight line towards you).

  • @BandosGodDragon Read the description, AdventureCraft btw has about 200 new files and modifies about 100 of the base files hence why.

  • @BandosGodDragon Yes, I'm the only one working on AdventureCraft. I'm about 50% of my way through the integration for files. Then next I need to fix bugs and reimplement features that didn't integrate nicely (for example the handheld torch). After that then I need to make everything in 1.8 that is new behavior like food and sprinting able to be toggled so old maps aren't broken.
