Because these to NPCs are part of the script, they were taking a few liberties with the verbal mechanics. For example, One does not just say "Lighting Bolt 24 pts" without a verbal casting time of a few seconds OR if it's instant, one must say "Autocast, Lighting Bolt 24 pts on The Dark One" Both spell casters were casting several autocast spells without saying "autocast" or calling the target.
Some people need to take the time to look carefully at this. If they can get past the lack of action, they might realize that these people are having a good time being in character. And from what I can tell, the two mages are enjoying being in character.

Nicee.. In my larp group we use packets and use a full time combat spell casting system.. So basiclly in a big war you throw a packet and call the dmg.. But you cannot shield it with a melee object or rang object unless a magic shield wich we do not use packets for..

I am going to make an educated guess based on my knowledge of the game that the Dark One had innate abilities with certain limitations, like the # of times he could use it or it was up to a certain amount of damage etc. This would account for the lack of colored flags like the ones Benny had. It's rare to see NPCs who are immune to everything, they usually have a weakness. As I've mentioned, this was not a typical mage battle.

Magic can also be in the form of items, such as rings, wands, potions, etc. These will be based in part off of a spell or ability found in the rulebook so that when someone uses the item, there's a basic understanding of what the item just did.

These two guys were NPCs and they each had a selection of spells and magical defenses they could use. The one guy that would appear to not take damage only had the advantage because he had a TON of magical defense up and was higher in level that the other guy. But, as I have mentioned before, this is not typical spell combat. Since these guys were NPCs they could bend certain rules, PCs in the same kind of situation would not have the same advantage.
the "dark one" is obviously not as powerful as he claim, his spells are totaly off time ing and is casting with such spontaneousness that its obviouse he hasnt gained the expereince of the levels he claims, did you see his poly spell? i know level 3's that can cast with better accuracy and precision than that, come on give me a break,
Because even in live action role-playing, someone needs to be the NPCs who present the story to the PCs. These guys were simply playing out part of a story for the PCs or players in this event. This is why this is not a typical kind of magical battle.
