I agree a learning experience. Ive been kayaking for almost 4 years now and I've done my fair share of swims. Having a bomb prooof roll on the river is important but that comes with experience and practice. I bet after that thrashing that guy either quit kayaking or worked on his roll!
Not neccessarily, theres always a chance of failure and a c to c roll in whitewater isn't exactly brilliant, you clearly have no clue... im sure many people would agree with me when i say you shouldnt give advice, it's clearly all wrong!
I ask again, has anyone ever paddled a rapid they didn't have the skills for? I guess it doesn't matter that I ran this river 3 times before this without any problems the previous year. I made errors and I spent too much time out of my boat (pun intended) that summer.
This is the kid. I made alot of mistakes but learned from them. how many people have paddled a river or rapid beyond their skill level? and how many times does it result in a serious consequence such as this? Don't get me wrong, I deserved that trashing and the 7 stitches that came with it. My gear is not appropriate and I was not part of a group. I was lucky to have anyone drag my ass out of the water and I am incredibly grateful to those that helped me. In conclusion, I got what I deserved.
It takes a big person to admit when they are wrong , That said PLEASE!!!! don't hit the river alone anymore, join a club ,glom onto another group whatever, but remember its always a group sport NEVER go alone!!!
Instead of some d-bags telling him to get off the rivers, maybe they should give him advice? Haven't met anyone yet who isn't nice enough to offer help.. bad karma on the water.
Um, isnt telling someone to stay off the river advice itself? Ha. If I saw some dude attempting the beav with a touring paddle, an old school pfd and a bike helmet, Id definitely get in line to watch the carnage. If youre as worried about your roll on that eddy line let alone the Beaverator, which gives the best of them a working, you prob shouldnt be on a class IV rapid.
its not a play hole, its the first keeper at the top of the taylorsville...his father was there, the guy you see in the foreground who did not have a throwbag. apparently this guy has been spotted on many rivers without any skills or guidance and has been told to get off the river. suprisingly no one one shore had a throwbag, and they had to go get one.
WOW He must have lost a TON of brain cells from all that oxygen deprivation. I heard he is now retarded. Shame we lost another bright adventurer.

Dude, that sucks, only people who know what they are doing should be on the river.
