  • Very synchronized; that is so awesome...The rhythm sounds a lot like a dryer XD

  • I guess you can get ripped arms by juggling!

  • almost CGI

  • Excellent idea for visualizing the piece -- thanks for uploading. Might be worth adding a note as to how the two performers in Reich's original become six.

  • I was trying to find faults in the formation and I saw stars in daylight.

    freakin brilliant.

  • Ihr seid sooo cool! Das ist bestimmt sehr schwer uund ihr macht es so locker. Klasse! Was sagt old Steve zu eurer Interpretation?

  • Chuck Norris can clap with one hand

  • Cool, but like Riverdance, after 3 minutes you've seen enough.

  • You are really crazy! Fantastic!!!

  • Awesome!

  • Is there any significance to the color of the balls? thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • very cool

  • they got som awesom muscles!!!!

  • The juggling was so cool for the first 20 seconds then it got boring, sorry

  • you put some kind of music over it but the visual effect is awesome i would never be able to do that

  • i think this is brilliant. id like to see the ones criticizing do it. I mean honestly its not just bouncing one ball and doing it in unison..i'd like to see them try. It sounds cool. I like it better than the clapping

  • It was sweet for like 10 seconds. You should have changed the rhythms up and whatnot instead of just doing the same thing the whole time.

  • What instrument do you play? Balls?

  • lol.. this wa so fucking boring...

  • Holy cheese. My brain is hurting from trying to concentrate on the balls. Awesome stuff.

  • Brilliant (how many goes did ti take?)

  • @JamesDOShea Actually if i remember correctly this is the 3rd Take. it took about a month of rehearsals though! Sean G

  • As a frequent performer of steve reich's music, and knowing how difficult it is, all I can say is, "I'm not worthy"!!!!!

Awesome job! The visual aspect is simply fantastic. Have you folks sent the link to Reich? He would love it! Honestly!

  • @piliage Actually to us jugglers the idea of doing it musically is more scary! We had another version where the jugglers where closer to the ground and was more faithful to the original....i think Steve Reich has seen it...we haven't heard from him though...we would hope he enjoys it! thanks for comment. Sean G

  • @piliage Actually he said that he enjoys it a lot. He says it twice first time when we met in le Havre, second time by mail via his agent.

  • @garnav I am so glad to hear that. Well done! I figured he wood, because your performance is faithful to his aesthetic and yet, you gave it an original twist that actually adds to the spirit of the composition. You guys should get some money together and see if you can commission him. He is busy after the Pulitzer, but I'm sure he would love the challenge and find the opportunity intriguing.

  • it looks like a video game

  • impressive....how about puttin LEDs on the balls and turning the lights off

  • I absolutely love when each side synchs up again at the end!

  • Why bored with this? This is the most original performance of a Steve Reich piece I've ever seen in my life. They are amazing (a bit crazy too, but that's cool).

  • This is kinda cool.

  • I fell asleep just a minute

  • Esto es increible!!!!!!

  • its....the same all the way thru..and 8 mins long.....

  • This was cool at like the first few seconds, maybe a minute at the risking max!! But DAMMMM, stop playing with the balls for gods sake. Im tired now, have a head ache, and bored out of my fu cking mind!

  • drrrraaaaaaaggggggggsssssss

  • This is pretty boring.

  • @kaitou55 do you have any idea how hard this is to do? It would be hard enough to just clap that with your hands... this is sooo much harder!

  • @kataschaf I don't care how hard it was, I just said it was pretty boring. It's like saying playing a slow boring classical song is boring. It takes a lot of talent, but in the end to some people it can still be pretty boring. (That was just an example)

  • Does the speed of the footage seem a little weird when they stop playing?

  • how many musical notes are there? just two?

  • @dafreedomfita The colored balls don't give a different sound, it just illustrates how they're not just throwing down random balls, it's all a pattern that repeats.

  • how can they remember the whole song

and how can they do it so perfectly and in sync????

  • Wow! Just, WoW!

  • BALLER!

    ;)

  • BALLS

  • amazing

  • fantastic as usual!

  • wow alot of practice aye

  • Interesting to watch, but not very musical. I like the original better. A picture of music is nothing like music.

  • ok doo not keep ur eyes on the orange ball if u are stoned

  • Very clever indeed.

  • Talented, interesting, but extremely boring. 8 minutes of the same-o, same-o.

Two minutes of this would have been plenty.

  • lolz i just keep watchin the balls

  • very well done guys !!

  • peloteo americano

  • WOW such concentration!! That was amazing!

  • WOW!!!

  • I have never seen everything more en enoing, its just teh same, on and on and on!!!

  • awesome!

  • unbelievable !!! never seen !

  • this is friggin amazing........ awesome!

  • omg! im number 100001! and nice video;P

  • wow that is all i can say

  • how do they make that noise?? someone please reply

  • probably from the type of balls/room..

  • the floor

  • The balls hitting the ground make the noise. The piece was originally written by Steve Reich (who is amazing imho) and this group of top jugglers have turned it into an awesome piece of visual/juggling art also. For more Reich try Piano phase which is one of the easier tunes to pick up on what he's doing with syncopation. Good luck. Enjoy the adventure!

  • awesome !

  • This is awesome !!!!

  • Cool, but they could change the beat.

  • What do you mean, change the beat? It's a very specific piece of music based on the phasing of a particular rhythm.

  • I like the idea but it gets really boring after some minutes, if the they make variations it would be more interesting...

  • there are plenty of variations...pay attention to all of their red balls at once...it's just shifting the same exact beat over a quarter note

  • True. Would require a lot more work though.

  • cool!

  • good..but stupid how they do the same beat the whole way through

  • isn't this one of the tenets of minimalism? I'm no expert but I'm sure the clue is in the genre title - techno minimalism for example . . . aka 'trance', I believe . . .

  • its minimal techno, and its more of a music than this. this is almost monotony :)

  • Minimal techno has nothing to do with trance.

  • They aren't doing the same beat. The three to the right play the background rhythm, but the three to the left play the different rhythms present in the piece.

  • holy shit i cud so do that yeah no i cudnt

  • I commend songs that celebrate chlamydia.

  • The clap,

  • whoa! i wish i can do that.

  • I hope Steve Reich has seen this.

One question: which of the jugglers were human, and which were androids?

  • sweet

  • more bars in more places... look at it

  • WOW! GALING.

  • Very creative!

  • Magnificent. My nominee for opening ceremonies for the 2012 Olympics.

  • *****

  • WTF is That?????]

    My Eyes Are juggling alSo

  • That's awesome!

  • wow that is truely amazing and i dont lie

  • Genius!

  • omg!

  • thats pretty cool!

  • awesome!!!

  • oh dam...

    freakin synced!!!

kudos to you guys for all the hard work!

  • shit!how much practice did this take?

  • Wow! That was great! Can I write my dissertation in music theory on you guys?

  • is this minimalism?

  • Amaizing

  • surely this can't be real

  • OMG, this was amazing!

  • Impressive, But... gets a little boring after the third minute. Certainly they can learn to change the pattern a little, and make it a little more exciting.

  • i agree, but it's a good start right?

    5 stars

  • A good START? look at there other videos

  • However, you're missing the point of Reich's piece. It's supposed to be repetitive- an ostinato that's seen in the opening pattern. The three jugglers on the right shift the pattern to make a counter rhythm to the original. It's sort of subtle in this adaptation, but its definitely there.

  • I gues, Whew!

    Eight+ minutes....

    WOW!

  • Is the guy on the far right wearing stilts or something?

  • sickest version of clapping music ever. those guys are insane

  • wow.....

  • That waz so SMEXY

  • It's nice but 8 mins is impossible to keep your sanity through.

  • Wow, I'm so impressed with this kind of group juggling routine.

The people in the Gandini project are something else!

  • powerful and pure

  • woooooooooow

  • I still think that Reich used "phasing" to simplify Elliot Carter's metric modulation. He couldn't understand Carter so he just took the equation out of it and tossed in more minimalism.

  • It's easy to speculate. I thought Reich had given up atonal music by the time he composed this. It's just as likely he was influenced by Brian Eno since he released this in 1972. We'll never know, unless we ask them I guess! :)

  • damn it.... how good, how long would they practise to can do this?? they are AWESOME and have my respect!!

  • Good juggling, great timing, very creative as jugglers, hate Steve Reich. He might be a nice guy and a smart and talented musician but I can't stand this tune, Music For Pieces of Wood, or any of his stuff. It bores me to tears. Regardless, great job on the juggling!!!

  • Just fantastic!

  • because the score states "repeat each bar 12 times". Dumb whore!

  • Aaaaaabbbbbsolutely amazing...!!!

  • AWESOMEEEE!!!

  • DAAAAAAAAAANG THAT WAS AWSOME !!!

    great beat

  • this is amazing.

  • ma come cavolo fate

  • amazing! seriously! love it!

  • I love the way all of you seem to be dancing together, even though your hands are all that move! Brilliant timing, color involvement, and the rythm is spot on! Well Done to you All!!!!

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • holy crap

  • My washing machine sounds like that...

  • that's a Musical instrument also.

  • wow!!!

  • i wish i had 5 friends to juggle with, not even this well, but just to juggle with, period.

  • haha i wish the same thing quite often too.

  • sounds like my vintage narrowboat engine when its on tickover!

  • If only I could stumble upon stuff this good on a daily basis...

I'm fascinated and inspired by their creative interpretation of the piece.

  • Mesmerising...

  • This is Gandini. They are really good!

  • the colors ! they are switching the colors "on the fly" :]

  • this looks sweet as =]

  • This is absolutely incredible! Really cheered me up after an evening of studying Minimalism :)

  • SAME! we did this in school clapping! this is so cool!

  • It sounds like my old washing machine!

  • hahaha!!!

  • hahaha you're right

  • Aww, I thought at the end, there would be a massive round of applause, but turns out there was no audience.

They must have such a good memory, and being able to do that in time, without losing count of how many times you've repeated something, is amazing!

  • this is really cool :)

i wish you could hear the right side of the group a little better - it seems like the left half may have been nearer to the microphone or something, as their rhythms sound louder to me.

  • This is absolutely amazing and fantastic. Great way to interpret steve reich. Brilliant how to come up with the juggling patterns for the written music!

    Keep going guys! You're awesome!!!!

  • this rocks they should have more views

  • niiiice!

  • Someone doesn't understand the concept of Minimalism.

  • Careful, there are alot of music nerds watching this and they'll jump to the chance of showing their hard earned "music nerd stripes" just because you have a negative opinion. If Steve Reich is a good and mature musician then he would understand that NOT EVERYONE has to like minimalism. Just dig the juggling and you'll be fine.

  • ta gueno mano la volaita

  • this might be the most amazing thing ive ever seen.

  • PERFECT!

  • i think it is memorized because this is extactly how it is written by steve reich

  • outside of the "NEXT!" at 2:17, this BLEW MY MIND.

    A+.

  • Very NICE

  • That is incredible. I think listeners would have obviously had to know what Steve Reich is all about, but that's an ingenious interpretation.

  • Did everybody catch the subtle variation in the 247th measure? Brilliant!

  • if that was sarcasm it was hilarious

  • LOL XD!!! I thought it was the 243rd, but I could be wrong. I lost count after 154 measures.

  • hahaha - there are of course only (!) 156 measures (12 x 12 + 12)

  • If only hung on for 2 more bars!!!

  • Hi. I wondered what you meant by "If only hung on for 2 more bars"

  • hung on to the count.

  • I'm probably going to get negative votes on this comment, but when I was listening to the video it sounded like shoes tumbling in a dryer. With rhythm.

  • Nice!

  • cool video ^^

    5 stars

  • boa ideia, mas e que tal variar de ritmo..?

good idea, but when are you thinking to chance the rythim..?

buena idea, pero joder cuando cambia de ritmo?

  • Wow!!

  • We watched this in music class and my teacher said she reckoned everytime the side view went on, they'd dropped a ball.
