I took simply music a long time. I miss it. I no longer remember how to play these songs but I loved playing them... I think its funny how the kids start playing before the teacher even finishes saying the name of the song..
@SoldierOfTheMCRmy100 They get right into it sometimes! If you'd like to consider taking lessons again and no longer are able to study with a teacher in person, some Simply Music teachers such as myself offer lessons through live online videoconference. Something to think about...
@TheYolgsCast He's not that old :) Lots of adults take piano lessons, especially with the Simply Music method. The method makes it possible for anyone to learn who is willing to follow it, so it's never too late to start.
@VegaManX7 The real question is how the method gets to longer songs and why. See my earlier comments below about long and short songs. We could teach longer songs right away, but it wouldn't serve your long-term progress as well as building longer songs bit by bit over time through shorter projects. There's also no way to generalize an answer since students are different. One person might learn two or three times as slowly or quickly as another student.
Just finished Simply Music Level 1 and it has brought back my joy in piano music. I am learning just what I want, that is to PLAY and not spend hours on drills, excercises and reading. It is so much fun that I look forward to each lesson with my excellent teacher. SM is the best!
I have a question after watching these performances. Why are the songs so short? Are they just a sample of the songs, or do you not teach full length?
The Simply Music method taps into natural learning processes. Teaching many short songs -- including sections of longer songs that can stand on their own as if they were short songs -- is extremely effective, building a musical vocabulary that lets students grow as musicians much faster and more naturally than diving into longer songs. Longer versions are built over time.
It's just like in language. We first learn short words and make short sentences, engaging in language "for real" even though we have yet to learn longer words and even though we have yet to be able to make longer sentences -- moreso, it's the very use of the short words/sentences that itself paves the way for the longer ones. This is how any learning / skill development is best done. From this perspective, any other approach to learning seems a little ridiculous, really! :)
