@melonpult You don't have to apologize. Lives are always different than the CD version. Their vocals are usually stronger, perhaps even clearer and lives let us see as well as hear how the girls express the song.
Honestly Kalafina has some songs I didn't really like, but watching them performed live helped me appreciate them better. For Ongaku I felt the same as you, but having watched the live now I imagine Keiko rocking it out every time I hear it and it brings a smile to my face =)

For me it's all about Keiko. That sexy alto voice full of her natural energy and an undercurrent of mystery and intrigue... it's just not something you find in other groups, and goes a long way to setting Kalafina apart.
@FeatherShard Yeah, it's extremely rare to find any kind of group that actually includes an alto/contralto vocal range... And even then, Kalafina still has Keiko supporting way more than I'm comfortable with, with Wakana leading most of the songs and Hikaru having a secondary point.
That being said, I still adore every song by them, pretty much! Their live performances are just so fun to watch and listen to!
@Heimska I see Hikaru moving into more of a leading role in the future, personally. In every new performance that I see, I find myself more impressed with her than before. Her voice and stage presence are just gaining so much power that I'd actually be disappointed if she didn't become more of a leader. After all, when someone's star is so obviously on the rise, it benefits everyone to allow them to fulfill that expanding potential.
@FeatherShard Definitely, definitely. Hikaru is a valuable member of Kalafina that just keeps improving. Then again, it's not just Hikaru that's getting better, I can see it's all of them, especially when I watch this performance after a 2008 performance.
I hope Hikaru and Keiko both get an equal chance to fill the lead role just as Wakana's doing! They're all wonderful singers and I'd love to hear their individual voices more, though that's not to say their harmonies aren't beautiful, too.
Keiko = sexy and strong low voice, Hikaru = sweet 'moe' voice, Wakana = what can I say...voice of a goddess :) And together, they do magic with their vocals.
@murrue02 I agreed. Kalafina is GREAT!!!! Every single member is a good singer and very important for the team. i support them as a whole. While personally i like Wakana voice abit more, especially when she sings as the background support or as the chanting part that u mentioned in various songs.
@AhWing89 i also love them all.i mean kalafina wouldn't be kalafina if not for them.i can say they were carefully selected by yuki-sama.but above all is my love for wakana because of her versatility and powerful voice.man chanting is really mysterious (it suits her). i love her soprano voice.^^
I loved the CD version, but I think I just had an orgasm from the energy here. Keiko looked like she was loving this!

I first listened to the live version, everyone was so hyped and punk-rockish, awesome performance!
Then I downloaded the CD version, their vocals aren't as strong as in the live, maybe it was the muffled effect. Can't say I like Ongaku on CD >.>
