I do agree with you there. I think most other methods are just plain creepy anyway. Capital punishment is disgusting, but pretending it isn't is disgusting too! If I were to be executed, I'd rather it were in front of a huge crowd baying for my blood, because that's the truth of the matter. @kevinsalami if you have been unfortunate enough to have seen any of the beheading videos from chechnya or Iraq on footage of modern cameras you can tell that the detached head lives on for roughly the same amount of time that it would take to strangle somone with a Garrot. As inhumane as it sounds I think the only way to execute someone if to send as many rounds of rifle fire through the head as possible to completely ruin all functionality of the brains as fast as possible.

The reason for it was to put into the minds of the poplace that murder is a bad thing. or in some extream cases that revolts would not be tolerated. It's ment to be horrific. Most sates within the USA have banned exicutions, And what replaces it? In Maine the death penetaly is 25 years for horrifically, sadistically murdering a woman. That to me isn't justice, but it'll have to do.

I do not belive in Capital Punishment. But, I belive the guillotine was the most humman way of execution. Electric chair, Gas Chamber, Injection and ... all took more than 3 to 5 min to die. Guillotine took only a second.

I do agree with you there. I think most other methods are just plain creepy anyway. Capital punishment is disgusting, but pretending it isn't is disgusting too! If I were to be executed, I'd rather it were in front of a huge crowd baying for my blood, because that's the truth of the matter. Private or Public, swift or slow, it's still satisfying a nasty human desire for blood revenge.

@kevinsalami if you have been unfortunate enough to have seen any of the beheading videos from chechnya or Iraq on footage of modern cameras you can tell that the detached head lives on for roughly the same amount of time that it would take to strangle somone with a Garrot. As inhumane as it sounds I think the only way to execute someone if to send as many rounds of rifle fire through the head as possible to completely ruin all functionality of the brains as fast as possible.

@slunkmonky You are right. I saw a documentary on the guillotine regarding the execution of a scientist in the 1700's. For his last contribution to science, he asked his colleagues to be present at his execution and that he would continue to blink his eyes as long as he could... it was recorded that he blinked 20 times before his eyes took on a distant "hazy" look and became still. It was a very inhumane way to die, the head lives on for a matter of time after being severed. Disgusting!

Yes, it does remain alive for a few seconds at most, but since the impact from the blade makes you unconsioness, you still wont feel anything.

once heard the decapitated head can be still conscious for a few seconds after being severed, & even be held up to see it's headless body, or bodiless head in a mirror if the executioner is so unkind & twisted to do so. a horrible way to go. today, the preferred way in america is, of course, the painless, lethal injection--but being put to death by organized people is horrible enough all the same. but also, we all are under a death sentence in this life, and things like cancer are even far worse

If I remember Correctly, It was originally ment for amutations because at the time it was done with out any form of pain killer and so any amputation had to be done as quickly as possible.

If Hitler had survived the war it was seriously considered that his execution would be by way of public guillotining. The guillotine had been the official execution method for criminals in Nazi Germany so perhaps it was a fitting end!

If the guillotine was the only tool used in US death Row, maybe american people will understand that this is not the method (the cleanest one to kill people, couïc), but the fact to kill people who is unacceptable). I hardly prefer to be beheaded than to have my brain boiled by electricity.
A civilized nation must not kill their childs, just assume it. Around 50.000 violents death a year in US, about one hundred in France, UK, Spain, Italy and germany

The oblique 45 degree angled blade was Tobias Schmidt's suggestion, favouring that over a curved blade. Schmidt was a German harpsichord maker who was employed to build the first prototype of Dr. Guillotine's design.

@stoneeh The laws of physics state that all objects fall at the same rate of speed. To "speed it up, the velocity would have to be increased by either powering the blade, or dropping it from a greater height, allowing gravity to do its thing for a longer period of fall. I understand your thinking and agree with the idea, but the idea of having one's head severed by a falling blade at the hands of other people, is still, the thing of horror stories.

Oh, a bullet to the head is not entertaining nor does it have shock value. I think we can get over ourselves about being inhumane to each other - that is rubbish! Let us be frank with ourselves, some people deserve to die for their actions. If someone kills your child, would you have the same compassion for the criminal? The simple fact that the condemned feel the same as their victim right before being executed is justice enough, end result of death is just the icing on the cake ;)!
