I love how this begins. The constant knocking and the reed flute interjecting so beautifully while gradually the rest of the orchestra joins in. I get goosebumps every time i hear it.
I have loved the music & story of the nutcracker for many years. Since I was 7 years old & I am now 26, almost 20 years! I never get tired of listening to this beautiful music!
out of the selction of three, they're ALL my favorite(: im playing "March of the Nutcracker" and "Trepak" (Russian Dance) for my high school orchestra and they're both coming together sweetly(:
I'm feeling sorry I used to like Barbie now. This is great music and I keep seeing the awfull images of a computer-animated dancing Barbie before my eyes.
John Lanchbery was the conductor of the Royal Ballet for years. He conducted this piece this fast, and the dancers responded very well. That was with the Royal Ballet orchestra. The Philharmonia is much better, and was the best I heard of any of the London orchestras.
@dmanschaumbizzie, you are not tripping. There was a dance number in which, if I remember correctly, crocodiles danced with lady hippos. Also, the Chinese dance (tea dance) was staged with some tiny dancing mushrooms. Tchaikovsly and Disney - two geniuses, in their respective fields.
@showmoon You shoulf know that Tchaikovsky was the capitalist greedy one of his generation... The main motivator for writing this kind of music back in the day being the same motivator that pushes people like 50 cent to write his music..
Note that.. I am not defending 50 cent, just pointing out that your statement is misguided in its charge.
@Eireanngobrach21 - I was about to reply in the same vein. It has to be said though that Tchaikovsky wrote some work with no guarantee of either a fee or performance. Still, it's a pity that a similar motivator led to different outcomes: Tchaikovsky's masterworks and the horseshit of 50 cent.
@Eireanngobrach21 I could care less about motivations. I would rather somebody create something timeless and beautiful after having been motivated by greed and avarice than somebody creating vulgar trash after being motivated by selflessness.
this man is a genius, will someone go and try to ask someone in your school or a teacher and see if they know this person,i did and mostly didnt reconize this person.
I believe this man is the only reason ballet ever became popular

Tchaikovsky's music has been in various movies and commercials. It's great when you find the composer of those catchy tunes.
