I own this amp, and it is VERY CLEAN and WARM TUBE sound. I was suprised. This has now become my favorite amp. Alone it doesnt have ALOT of gain, but I feel its enough. I run my POD HD 400 thru it, and its awesome. As soon as I get the money, Im buying another one of these amps.
@Enclaven333 Well, it sounds like it would be pretty good, but if you want a really heavy tone, I'd say save up and get the Peavey 6505+ head or something. Although, this is just my opinion. If you can, go and try the Marshall out in a music shop so you can play around with the sound yourself. In all fairness though, if you want those sort of Marshall tones with high gain, this might be the right one. :)
dude would u happen to know if the ma cab is the same size as the typical 4 12 cab cause i just got a jcm 900 and the mg series cab i have is too small it works but the head doesnt fit on top of it so i was lookin at this one cause i didnt want to buy an 800 dollar 4 12
@teezer123 thank u but would u know if the ma series cabinet is big enough for a regular size head or if it fits as a substitute proportionally thx dude
At the end of the video, just before the fade out, while they're screaming "SEE YOU AT MONKEY FEST!", what the f***'s going on with the Marshall-cap guy's right hand? :'D I love it when he gets confused and looks at his hand like "wtf are you doing?"
For the whole time you're using it, are you plugged straight in with no pedals? When I tried out the MA 100 it didn't quite have the high gain it demonstrates in this one, like when you would play a fast lick it was pristine, but every one I tried would falter on the sustain.
@mitchmitchl0lersk4te I tried the amp itself and it hasn't quite much gain cause it has only 3 preamp valves in it (the same amount of an 800) the thing is that if you have a good tecnique you'll always sound like you've got more gain than you actually have (think of paul gilber as an example)
monkeyfest is going to bring this guy out of youtube and into UK music scene. what i hope is that A LOT of people turn up - it's gonna be wicked so bring your friends a long - i will be there with friends.
wrong, All Albums are great, including Spaghetti Incident and Chinese Democracy. They are just different styles, it only depends on if you like that style or not. I like all Albums of GN'R, but Appetite for Destruction is defo the best...
I currently have the marshall mg100hdfx half stack, and i was thinking about getting the ma 100 head, would i still be able to use the mg412 slant cab with this head or would i have to buy a new cab also to handle it?
@Gyro911 put a nice od like dod 250, Ocd, or tubescreamer, and it will. Boosting the input of a marshall is something done by tons of hardrock/metal guitarists
@Gyro911 YES, It can handle any kind of metal bro. Tons of pros have used Marshalls for Metal. You just have to know how. The biggest trick in the book is to use an OD to boost the front end of the gain channel on Any Marshall head. Thats the tone right there bro! With that tip, you can use this amp for Death Metal if you want!
@arhapist I`d like buying a Marshall MA100c and hook it up with my POD X3 Live... How are you doing with your POD HD through the clean channel? Does it really improve the sound of the POD amp modeling? Does it sound big and like all hell´s breaking loose?? I hope you could answer these questions because I don´t know anyone around here who owns the both piece of equipment...
@Martindefeo It sounds awesome, the cleans are WAY improved from the clean channel of the amp by itself, and you can get some really dirty sounds from the engl amp modeller, the "angel powerball." The tubes in the MA just make it scream
the MA seems to be the replacement for the DSL; that seems to be Marshall's plan (so sayeth a salesperson). I played the MA100 for a good hour before opting to buy it. The tonal range is reminiscent of Marshalls costing far more than the modest $799 (US)
hi, pnwhlprv37. Yes, Clean Channel is great -- impressive even. I wouldnt go as far as saying crunch sucked; it doesnt. Preferences in tonality and overdrive vary so widely among players that one person's notion of perfection is another player's notion of sucky. Let's face it: There is always room for more overdrive. Overall, all things being equal? The amp leaves little doubt in your mind that you are in fact playing through a Marshall.
@pnwhlprv37 ive played one recently and the crunch isnt the gain ud expect u can gt a rock tone u just couldnt go death metal that easily thats just my view i still like and and play metal on it
does anyone think this amp is worth it? im going to buy a marshall head (didnt really like my mg 100w head) and i was looking at the dsl50w but it was about $700... this amp is 100w for $800. if anyone could please give me your opinion or any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
This amp is as good or better than any 100 watt all tube head you can get for 800. these arent bad amps. very basic. If you can live with a 40 watt amp i suggest a bogner alchemist head for about 900. if you really have an open mind check out a VOX AC30CCH . Thats a 30 watt amp but thats misleading because the circuit topology is basicly the same as any 100 watt amp. its as loud as most 100 watt amps and its the best sounding and highest qaulity amp for under 900.or get the MA100
dont buy a 100 watt tube head unless you play a lot of shows and not small shows, I mean bigger ones. Even a 50 watter is a lot, you should buy a 25-30 watt tube combo or a 50 watt head that either sounds good turned down low or a 50 watter that you can switch down to half power or something. other wise you may never get to crank it. 15 watt tube heads are good for band practice but you should have a little more power for a gig.
Marshall make the best sounding cabs in the World except for the cab that's paired with this MA version...
Had they used George Lynch Eminence speakers I would have thought it was a better choice from varying away from any of the top notched Celestion speakers they are known for using in all of their cabs.
yes, and "shit" must be the reason why loads of guitarrists and tone masters such as Steve Vai or Zakk Wylde use them, and now their sig, pedals are based on the original Boss's they used...I've personally used 4 of the dists: OS-1, OD-3, DS-1, DS-2 with EXCELLENT results driving all valve amps, try a few ones before talking :)
I said fucking distortion pedals, not the overdrive ones. OS-1 and OD-3 are overdrive pedals, not dist. pedals. Two better things, that make two different sounds. (and yes, I know the OS-1 says "distortion" on it. It's a marketing technique.
And to be honest, Steva Vai and Zack Wylde only use them beause Boss is a popular pedal company and you most likely would get a better contract endosement with them then smaller companies.
I don't argue about that, but with Boss you get a really good pedal at a great price, the DS-1 is just 40$ and packs good tones and is indestructible as any other Bosses. It's classic tone, when you need something more sofisticated you go to boutique brands, same happens with amps. Classic tone = Marshall and Vox, boutique = Mesa/Boogie and Egnater (just a few examples) but although they are more versatile, you don't get the classic sound you pay classics for
But when I said distortion, I forgot about the DS-1/DS-2. I wasn't talking about those pedals, I was talking the ML-2 and the MT-2, which are both shitty pedals that sounds like a can of pissed off bees.
Horrible fuzzy sound. Muddy, loose low end, and really bad to sum it up when it comes to the ML-2/MT-2.
I agree with you, the ML and higher gain distortion pedals suck, in fact pedals must not be used to get distortion imo, they should be more like a boost, if not, what the fuck is your tube amp for?
i like the way the MA sounds. Its a step back from the last few marshall hi gain models. I dont like the split gain channel amps. This amp sounds more like my JMP 50
I'm glad you came and finally played some more heavy stuff on it. The guy who did the vid for Marshall just soloed the whole thing, which is good, but it's nice to hear more than clean stuff and solos.
How did you find the Yamaha SG? Never seen one in the flesh but they look pretty damn cool. Also is an added bonus that someone in Mastodon uses one :D
my friend went to download 09, saw a guy, wnet to sonisphere 09, saw the guy again, went to a skindred concert, saw him AGAIN then went to ANOTHER concert and saw him AGAIN

Some distortion pedals are good if you are a beginner on a low budget, who has a really bad SS practice amp, but otherwise I agree with you.
Amp distortion in most cases always beats stompbox distortion.

At lower volumes i find amp distortion a bit squashy; pedal distortion can sound better.
But at high volumes no competition

Very true, Boss pedals are average mediocre sounding, and don't forget the Blackstar pedals.

Yeah Blackstar pedals are fantastic.

i like the way the MA sounds. Its a step back from the last few marshall hi gain models. I dont like the split gain channel amps. This amp sounds more like my JMP 50

Rob what do you think about the MA ?
Is it better than a dual terror or just as good as the orange?

I'm glad you came and finally played some more heavy stuff on it. The guy who did the vid for Marshall just soloed the whole thing, which is good, but it's nice to hear more than clean stuff and solos.
