Not only is it thinner than a macbook, but it has a faster processor, better graphics card, higher resolution screen, etc. Plus, this is becoming the new trend for laptops, it's just a design that will last maybe a few years. If HP wasn't creative enough to make their own designs, then the ones from past years would have all been white laptops, but they weren't were they?

The processor starts at 1.86GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor for 1199 and the lowest MacBook Pro that starts at the same price starts at 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The Envy starts with 3GB of RAM and the MacBook Pro starts with 4GB of RAM. If you check HP's website it will tell you all of this. Look at the entry level 13" notebook, then go to Apple and check MacBook Pro's entry level specs.

lmao i never said the air was better, the air is complete garbage. The 13 inch is good but ure crazy if ur comparing HP Envy to the MBP. You dont need this speed unless its for gaming and if it is for gaming then go with an alienware. You can buy one for like 200 dollars cheaper which outperforms these computers so badly. These kind of laptops are meant for casual use and HP Envy fails in that aspect due to the crappy touchpad, no dvd slot, no backlit keyboard or screen and a small battery.

No. Does the HP Envy have a LED Backlit screen? No. And so what if the HP Envy has a quad core, it isnt faster than a MBP because like all HP products they are built poorly. I had a DV8T (quad core) and it ran just as fast as my macbook pro. Sometimes even slower, infact it crashed after the fourth day. My macs still alive tho:)

Alright first of all...jabberwolf, wtf is up with you using "mactarded." first of all that makes you sound "retarded" and it also immediately makes me not take you seriously. when you compare the base configurations of the macbook pro 13" and the HP Envy 13, HP has more RAM and a bigger hard drive, and a bigger battery. Given that, it's based config also cost $1700. Macbook Pro's base config comes with a faster processor, and if upgraded to match HP Envy specs, it would still cost less.

HP has the: Intel 2 Duo SL9400(1.86GHz, 6MB L2 Cache

The Mac has the 9400M GPU while HP has the 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon( HD 4330.

So basically to even Start: you need to start with the 1500 13" mac model, which again is still inferior.

I currently have a Macbook Pro 15 Unibody 08 and it's clear HP took design elements from it!

But, i'm not enjoying being stuck in OS X's controlled environment, stuck with bad WIndows support and having poor battery life.  A few months after buying the Macbook Pro, the graphics card failed. Apple fixed it, but it's starting to happen again. Not impressed.

Tempted to sell this and get an Envy 13 :)

BTW I think there's definitelly room for a Mac like product in the HP business model (it might even be a big business opportunity since the PC market is huge but this niche isn't well represented).

But I would advise them to play more to their strengths, HP is one of the more premium marques but it's no Apple. And being the high volume player they are they should be priced more aggressively. Also play to your high volume strengths by giving customers custom options like matte-displays etc.
