Reed Mathis in the upper register with the octave pedal and other effects, etc., while novel, grow tiresome after a few minutes, let alone a whole show. While I am stoked that Brian Haas has moved on to grand piano (seemingly exclusively as I am no expert on their history post '03), I really miss his Rhodes/DL-4 combo. Also for Mathis to be the taking leads on melody for extended periods was a shame, as while he has TECHNICAL chops, he doesn't have the MELODIC chops to carry a whole show.
you dont like? youre one of the first people to not like it. its gotten great reviews. its about as true to the group as one can get. its not like All is One like this video is but theyve evolved in the past 7 years.
I remember when I went to this show with Charleen, I was her ride there. That was a long time ago. I don't even think Curly's is open anymore. Great Music, I got to watch the show in the balcony where all the weed smoke rose up to. And where Reed Mathis chilled between sets. Great times.
it hasn't been open since 2004. the bald short man who was the sound engineer is my dad. i used to fall asleep on the couch a few feet from the sound board to JFJO. good times.
wow. i haven't seen this shit since i was there. i was there when i was 15. me and my friend were there. we were sucking at break dancing to this acid-space-jazz experience. does anybody have more of this?

@PitcherIPA At a certain point, his incessant noodling became a crutch.

It's very different, but true to the group sound circa 2006-2008.

I was at this show. Though the video was good, still doesn't compare to actually being there. JFJO is all about live musical energy.
