  • i still run an old 8k for a rock quarry outfit, they dont make blades anymore like they used to. those 6r 6t's blades are junk compared to 7g 8h 8k etc

  • We used to send the newbies out to oil the tracks and grease the harrow teeth, after they learned how dumb that was, they would try to pull it on the next new guy.

Thanks for the laugh, but if you're serious, it's a tracklayer, not a sewing machine!

  • need to put some w-D40 on that squeeky thing

  • Great machine

I wonder if modern D8's will last as long as this old beauty?

    I doubt it!

  • @ToonandBBfan its not always about the durability...modern dozer are just more comfortable because of all the electronic ...the cables can break and so on...old dozers...thats just cog on cog.

  • @EcotecUSA

B100 biodiesel is actually pretty good unless your in 0 degree tempetures but, who opperates that cold?

"Blue Sun" B20 and B100 are great, no forigen oil.

  • we have tons of these in manitoba!!

  • Good operator! Nice and easy on equipment. Especially nice to see someone operate who doesn't shock-load the final drives when going from forward to reverse or roar around in 3rd gear trying to make it look like they are all about 'production'.

  • get some fuckin oil for the track fuk sake.

  • @diveplane ..... It's probably not a SALT rail set, they tend to squeak as the bushings rotate on the pins. No amount of 'oiling' will make any difference. Have a good day, sir.

  • why does he set in that back spike thing?

  • holly crap its kill dozer i thought holly movie maker killed the beast lol

  • great video

  • Nice vid, spent many hrs on 46A's..that's a helluva long push he's doing there though.

  • nice machine

  • Unfortunately, all equipment operators have been laid off due to the economy.

  • @EcotecUSA not so

  • you hiring in the coury for equipment operators. please email me.

  • Thanks for the nice video

    I enjoyed watching it

Right now i am covered in prickles from clearing cactus in the forest...

  • Need a few 100 over in Afghanistan if they can plow those villages into dust and eliminate hiding places for two-legged rats.

  • Excellent Idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THEY SURE DONT MAKE EM LIKE THEY USE TO

  • this video is excellent. i absolutly love seeing these old machines at work. but better than seeing them at work has got to be running them. and i must say what a great choice of theme music for the video to.

  • po prostu spych czym się tu zachwycać

  • wow, tha'ts an awesome view, where is that?

  • is it a 46a??

  • Yes. That is a late 46A D8H. It has some parts that are the same as a D8K.

  • Its an old dozer but looks new.. thats how it should be 1 driver 1 machine...

  • Ooops!!! I just figured it out. I ran my first 46A in 1962. So I have been listening to them growl for 47 years!!!

"Time flies when you're having fun."

  • not quiet as iong as you buddy. 8h & 8k music to the ears. the 4 cylinder d7 whistler purred to . was d7e if my memories correct.

  • Right on... Most of the Guys favored the D7E over the F, because it was heavier and better balanced. That made it climb a lot better in rough country. Great tractor! Thanks for giving it hororable mention.

  • Thanks for the nice comment. You sound like you have "been there and done that". I have been listening to those old girls for over thirty years, and they still give me a thrill when they are pulling and hit a certain RPM.

  • them babys make a sweet noise. very good operator to who knows wot angle to use v 4 barrel & doesnt race v tractor.

  • any how heres to the "old"stuff and the men that ran em cheers!!!...corona btw :) that guy has to be huge!:)

  • geez, nice to see a young pup try to go up aginst an old timer i defently knw what ecotech is talking about i was raised on cble blades ,johnson bars all the old stuff .wouldnt trade it for anything i started out on a gas 30 no rock guards and skidded logs on ground that would freak you out, dad still has the old cat and a d73t and a rd4 and they all run like a watch lets see your D8t last that long liveing the life they did some how i dont think it can and yes ive ran the newr stuff too

  • if you tried to use an 8 h up where i live you do not want an h where they spin so easy...the newer ones have alot of torque to them and lug alot more...im in manitoba canada and dirt here is wet heavy and a real pain to deal with, the newer ones have alot more lug to them and push alot more

  • now i am the one showing the younger guys what to do and i know how frustrating it is trying to teach someone who thinks they know it all...i learned a long time ago that if you wANT TO LEARN ANYTHING YOU have to listen to the older guys who have been doing it for a long time...i go out of my way to show them the respect i have for them

  • i was just thinking of this one outfit i worked for when i was like 20...they always tried to tell the guys that newer stufff always breaks...and i know from experience that it doesnt

  • mmy dad is the same way eco...im sorry i got upset...t thought you were one of those guys that has never used a newer piece of iron thats all

  • my hat is really off to you ecotec...for keeping all that older stuff going...i really didnt want to argue withi you i was just stating an opinion on older stuff

  • and i never said anything bad about the guy sitting on the cat either,he is a good hand...out of curiosity was that hourly work?

  • Mark, you sound just like my young employees that want to be on new equipment all the time because it's so nice and easy to operate. Yes... Like I tried to tell you, I also have new equipment, but who wants to see videos of that? As a matter of fact, we put the old H in that red rock pit, because the 8T that had been working there went onto another job. So just what is your point?

You might also be amazed to know that Old John out-produced the young hotshot on the T... EXPERIENCE !!!

  • lol well what about when you put the guy with experience on the T...i know experience means everything...pretty much anything i have learned in the last 15 years came from people with experience and im not trying to be rude about all this...all the older guys i know say they wouldnt want to sit on an h or a k anymore

  • out of curiosity have you ever sat in a T?,please dont go on a rant...just answer the question

  • i wouldnt even worry about him friend. all he has ever done is sit on daddys this or daddys that. real men earn their stripes on older gear and dont whinge and whine when they cant have new gear (most of which will be scrap long before these old girls give up the ghost).

  • Comment removed

  • excuse me...maybe you shouldnt yap till you know whats going on...i have run 8 hs 8k 8n 8r and 8ts 9g's you name it...i have worked for a hell of alot more companies than my dads outfit...which in 25 years hasnt had a dozer with a cab till last year

  • My compliments to you and digger. I see you both get the picture.

  • untill you sit in something newer than 19damn70 maybe shut up

  • so yeah...i did earn my damn stripes on a bunch of old junk, and thats all it was compared to newer stuff

  • and just by the way you talk i know you havent run anything new either,so maybe you should shut up

  • shut the fuck up whiney. i dont operate earthmoving equipment but i drive trucks. started out in old trucks, driving a 08 model truck now and still happy to drive the old gear. its girls like you that cant operat old equipment that piss me off. you are all "too good" to not have the newest and best.

  • lmao...next time im hearding truck drivers around like sheep to where i need them to dump...ill think of you

  • whatever dickhead. cant come up with a decent reply that is relevant so you make some inane brainless comment.

  • lol i meant that i have dealt with many many truck drivers loading them and pushing loads...its always like hearding sheep...teach them something one day,and its all forgotten by the next morning

  • so pretty much like i said before, you cant make a relevant reply to what i said so you comment about something that has nothing to do with what i initially said.

  • i dont understand what you initially said then...you were saying im some whiny guy or some thing like that i guess...i will still run any old piece of junk in a heartbeat...if there is nothing else to sit on

  • what i said is that you were part of the "new school" who are too "precious" to use old gear and your previous statements prove it. what i am basically talking about is the guys who wont drive old stuff because its too uncomfortable. got to have air con, soft seats etc. guys who have never had to use old equipment to gain their skills and think they should get the newest and best right away. if you say you have no problem using old gear then there is only 1 person who knows if this is true.

  • key word...were good in there time, but cat has made alot of improvement over the last oh say 40 years lol didnt mean to offend you that much...i had to un old stuff when i was younger,my dad own a 16000 serial number, 8k i just dont like sitting on old junk antmore

  • ???what are you talking about...you obviously dont even know the horsepower difference, how more comfortable newer ones are to run,i have run both,i know guys ho have run dozer for well over 30 years, any one of them would rather run the 8T or R series2 any day over an h or k

  • Okay Kid, let me try to explain it to you. I ran my first dozer in 1946 when your Dad was probably still in diapers. I am now semi-retired, but still own 43 pieces of equipment including some old classics. If you look on my site, I also have a Holt 75 and a Steam Tracklayer on there. Would you also like to run them down and call them junk? If you think running down other peoples equipment makes you look good, you are badly mistaken.

  • obviously these "real"operators never ran an 8T lmao...will bury an h any damn day

  • Yeah, and a 747 will fly higher. You just don't get it do you?

  • sit on your old junk and work for people who are to cheap to get something nicer lol,i see your brain has already gotten rattled around by the noise lmaoo

  • 8h's are dinosaurs lol...time to send it to the scrapyard

  • REAL Operators love this old equipment.

  • that's a ripper.

  • that thing on the back scraps the ground and then he pulls it away

  • Excellent video, and a very good operator too.

  • Thank you from both of us.

  • I also thought your choice of background music was very appropriate: Fanfare For The Common Man. One of my Copeland favorites.

I'm Cat cert. master mechanic and I really appreciate good operators - make me like the Maytag repairman.

  • early 70's 46a...one of the best engines the cat made...had a 46a like the one shown. i like the fact that is has a pony motor...we used it in hawaii on the big island...all rock. this engine had an unreal weight distribution and balance...equalizer bar in the perfect spot...easy to mobe..60 ton low boy is all you need....pick up and go.

  • You are very observant and obviously know your Cats. I have an electric starter that I have never put on. It sits a lot, and when the battery goes down.. No problem. Besides, I like to see that oil pressure come up before it fires, especially when it has been sitting for awhile. Thanks for the nice comments.

  • the d8h has a non pinned equlizer bar where the 8k had one,and had salt track availble

does this have the spacer plate.

  • I agree one of the best cats they made!

how have your final drives held up?

  • obviously havent run a T yet have you?

  • It doesent wheigh that much the caterpillar performance handbook lists the bare tractor weight at around 60000 lbs add about 10000 for the blade and maybe 8-9 thousand lbs for the ripper so it's around 80000 lbs.

  • Sorry about that, the scales must be wrong.

  • no but my uncle say,s it,s the best peice of machine he,s ever operated and he,s bin operating for 23 years and he let,s me operate sometimes, and by the way i am only 14 year,s old

  • that,s a d8h but d8k,s are the best you dig!

  • No argument there! Did you notice the trunion mounts and a few other K features?

  • you need a set of SALT rails, will cut down on the squealing and last much longer.

  • COOL I LOVE D8H,S
