And he doesn't even "slide" correctly. If you do want to glissando, you do it with your arm, keeping the position of the hand relative to the arm constant. Here, he just pushes the finger up and down the board by flexion of the wrist. All the "ExpertVillage" cello postings I have watched show incorrect and poor technique.

"Sliding is a very effective way of finding your notes." I can't seem to agree with him. If you slide as a way to find your notes, then you're using it as a crutch for sure. Sliding should be to access more notes and better hand positions for more convenient playing, and for expressiveness.
First of all, everyone who is leaving bad comments get a life he's playing music deal with it. All of you seem to think music is life. Get over it it is a hobby that is fun to some people. You dumb musicians seem to think that plucking a string is spiritual or life changing well reality check...its not!!! I respect that this guy loves playing the cello and good for him and anyone else who likes to play it but dont get mad because the world ignores you freak musicians!
haha, u really dont know much at all. the guy sucks, which is not bad in and of itself, however he should just not pretend to be a teacher. big difference. also he is not playing music. if you think what he is playing is music then ur life sucks. i would like to hear him play a full piece.
Imagine if someone being advertised as an "expert" comes on here and talks about your job. The problem is that they're talking absolute crap! Most people would be pretty pissed. The musicians who are making negative comments are actually trying to be helpful so that beginners such as yourself don't get bad advice on how to start. At 60 years old you're not going to make it in the profession so maybe for you it's ok but for parents who are helping out with teaching their kids it is not!
He's clearly quite deluded. Mind you saying that, I've actually watched a few of his so called tutorials now because they are strangely entertaining. I'm off to find some You've been Framed clips now.
I could not stop laughing for 5 minutes after watching this. You don't even need to be a cellist to know that the sound produced is wretched. It sounds more like a cow than a cello. Nobody musician actually glissandos to that extreme.
most advanced players don't need them, but beginners usually start with stickers. Just in case the note sounds flat or maybe too sharp. the stickers help beginners find the actual note sound. [the best] so their kind of like frets.
yeah i play guitar too and i like am interested in playing it but i dont think so from what iv noticed like youve heard a fretless bass im sure and it sounds alot like that when it slides so i can only imagine that it doesnt have them
If he slid with the whole arm rather than just the finger itself he would have more control over the hand. This would mean better tuning, a better control of the speed of the slide, a more controlled vibrato, a more connected hand shape which would lead better on to the next note. He plays everything on an individual finger level rather than in a connected and flowing way.
One thing I love about String instruments is that it is mainly playing by ear. And that is the most important thing a musician can do is train his ear.
i thought it was pretty good

it is funny that he said sliding is a good way to find your notes. But he seems never to find the notes that are in tune. Worst intonation ever

the guy is obviously not a cellist... he's rather cute though :-)

So, I've never played a Cello, nor do I really have the urge to. I'm a guitar player, but I can't help but wonder.
Are there fret markers on a Cello? I can't tell from the videos.

Nope...
