Thanks for posting this. Real easy to follow. I'm an Industrial Designer and use this software to put people next to my rendered products to give them scale for the client. The animation takes it to a whole new level.
does anybody know if it's possible to design your own clothes and hair in poser? I've been looking and asking around everywhere but I still haven't found an answer...
@CinnamonWithATwist you can add your own models in for clothing, although it takes some skill on the modelling front in some other software such as 3ds max or maya. but hair you can do right in poser itself, but it takes alot of work to get it looking normal. basically, yes if you are willing to work hard to do it.
@AcrylicSE thanks. I've been asking all over for about a month now and you'r the only person to reply ^_^ I'm a work-hard-make-it-good type person so it shouldn't be too much of a problem
@AcrylicSE oh, wait you said you need another program for clothing? then are you able to edit pre-made clothing in poser? like change the colour or maybe even the shape of outfits?

I guess I'm very frustated with this program...I just got it...and yet it is very frustating to download the Victoria and Aiko avatars into it. I tried asking people from Renderosity for help, most were helpful, but I got shot down for my "overexpressiveness..."
I wonder if they improved the bloody awful animation process, if they did it like 3D max then I would not just use Poser for making people then export them to animate them !
Do i get that right? After years, still no real new feature like physics for all objects? So they only fixed the library which is ten years overdue and charge $250 for an bugfix?
I guess it is time to have a good look at DAZ Studio...
@TheMelancholyOfNoone yes it does.... there is also daz studio 3d which is a similar compatible program they have a free trial version on their site.. it might be worth trying both to see which one you prefer. Old hands usually prefer the classic Poser 3d...and new users seem to warm upto Daz studio more...though they both can use the same models.
She looks too manly. I know the designers are looking to create original looking female models, but can't they at least look at the most popular female celebrities, and take a hint? Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Alba, Natalie Portman, Emma Watson, Hayden Panettiere, so many others they could base a likeness too. Why this, why so manly?
I just got Poser 8 last week. I got a brand new copy from ebay. I like it. Great interface and rendering is good. I like it better than the past version. I have used Poser since version 4. I went to Poser 5, 6 , 7.
I have Poser 5 and Poser 8 does look like it has a few new neat tricks. But the renders in P8 don't look much different than in P5. I was thinking that P8 renders would look better than in P5.
Poser 8 is available on Amazon for about $150 (US) used. And P7 is also available there as well. P5, the one I have is available, but it is actually more expensive than P7 and 8.
lol yeah right you lost it im sure, im thinking you downloaded a copy from torrents or something and it didnt have a keygen... if you actually did buy it you should have registered your copy, then you'd be able to ask Smith Micro for the CD key....
i just downloaded this and now i need a serial key code watevr, and i cant find 1 anywer so id RLY RLY RLY appreciate it if som1 posted 1 or gave me a link or somthing
Just a thought. I used Poser 7 and rendering was a slow nightmare. I am now using Iclone 4, its like having Poser, Vue and particle effects in one studio. The render time is very fast and the quality is great.
Who is that horsefaced girl with the hilariously short arms? Is it Poserella - the one to spoil anyone's excitement? You guys at Smith Micro don't get it! Invest in a really good natural model and you will DOUBLE your sales. Get a professional to do that and use scanned §d data from a real girl. And for the last time: You need to completely redo Content Paradise, it stinks!
your right there content paradise really really stinks on all levels- it is like smith micro just thinks they can shake and bake and throw anything on your plate and not care that the site is a nightmare to try and find anything
I buy a package- if I can't find a detaled list of models- then I will not upgrade to Poser8, period- regardless of new features.
As for Smith Micro ? When you look at high quality content at DAZ and how easy it is to navigate at DAZ as compared to Content Paradise- it is amazing anyone wastes time on that site, IMO.
I would say that Poser has lost hundreds of dollars in sales from me in the last two years based on how awkward Content Paradise is.
So you're only buying it for the content? not the fact that the program has dozens of improvements and new features? If you look athe list of new features, you'll see that far from losing touch with its customers, Smith Micro has finally implemented many features that have been requested for years.
* Generate new characters from your facial photographs. * Add hair and clothing. * Dress Poser's virtual stage with props, lights and cameras to construct 3D scenes. * Automatically generate walking or running animations and talking characters. * Import motion capture files for even more animated realism. * Animate lights and cameras, and then render your scene into photorealistic images and video for web, print, and film projects.
Poser 8 is the world's most complete solution for creating art and animation using 3D characters. With Poser, it's easy to make 3D art, whether you're an experienced artist or you're dabbling in graphics for the very first time. Poser includes over 2.5 gigabyte of ready-to-pose, fully textured, human and animal figures, basic accessories such as hair, clothing, pose sets, real world props and 3D scene elements so you can start creating 3D character art and animation in minutes.
Just to be clear, Poser 7 and Poser Pro were 2 different application lines. Poser 8 is the upgrade to Poser 7, and Poser Pro 2010 will come next year as an update for that line. (Which includes 64bit rendering, pro hosting plugins, network rendering, etc.) A lot of people have reported vast improvements with Poser 8 over Poser 7, in both render speed and quality. As well, there are huge improvements in things like the addition of IDL.
I put some product details in my comments above - but yes, Poser is a character solution. You can build your scene in the ap, or you can export your character to many other products and finish your scene there.
Really... I am surprised to hear your comments. I was very close to purchasing this product. Seems the content library may be lacking... huh?
I do a lot of 3D modeling in SketchUp, and I have been looking for a program that I can add some good animation characters. I tried Antics V5, but the company went bankrupt, and there is very little support.
Well, I recomend to get Poser 7 Pro. It's great to make renders and animations. However, I think DAZ characters and stuff is so much better, I mean, using them into Poser.
Content from DAZ is unbelievably cheap! Before DAZ, you used to pay 100s even 1000s for lame-ass models from Viewpoint or Zygote, and they weren't even textured, rigged or supplied with morphs. Like anything, you need to be selective. If you want cheap try Poserworld. But you get what you pay for.
I just have uninstalled poser 8 and installed poser 7 pro again, because the 8th version doesn't have any relevant stuff. It only wastes computer resources. The menu library is particularly slow because it reads all the runtime folder everytime!
It seems like the poser developers thought more about to get new users with an "attractive" look, without think to include useful tools.
I think the great advance will be when poser mixed an animation tool like endorphin. That would be really amazing!
Poser 8 brings a multitude of vital new features, and it mosty certainly does NOT read the enture runtime everytime you load it - that's why there are refresh buttons. The look you deride, was requested by users since version 1, because docked palettes make better use of screen space. The interface drastically improves productivity and features like dependent parameters simplify professional animation. If you want endorphine-like behaviour look at Animate in Daz studio.
i really hate giving money to smith-micro- it is hard to navigate content paradise and it is like they dont care to improve that site- i suggest they spend a couple hours at DAZ to see how a commercial website should be run- and the latest tinkering has only made it more annoying
and their marketing theme is why stay with DAZ ? I can give close to 300 reasons why in one sentence:
Same problem myself. I use Poser 7 and Daz figures. What we need is more opportunities to work with many figures in the scene. I do not know if Poser8 is really more effective in this.
Can u make a movie out of this software.

I LEARNT A LOT FROM THIS. @HVGtechline I have few doubts
1.I have a character with half sleeved cloth and I want that same cloth to extend to full sleeve and apply some patch designs on it.
2. I have another character and I must create a single line thread over his skin from his shoulders to his waist. How to do that in Poser?

The look you deride, was requested by users since version 1, because docked palettes make better use of screen space. The interface drastically improves productivity and features like dependent parameters simplify professional animation. If you want endorphine-like behaviour look at Animate in Daz studio.

i really appreciate this comment
i really hate giving money to smith-micro- it is hard to navigate content paradise and it is like they dont care to improve that site- i suggest they spend a couple hours at DAZ to see how a commercial website should be run- and the latest tinkering has only made it more annoying
and their marketing theme is why stay with DAZ ? I can give close to 300 reasons why in one sentence:
DAZ3d is free (duh).

Looks like a vast improvement over Poser 7.
I wonder how I can modify the default models in such a way that I can draw inspiration from them.

So far unimpressive.
I have Poser 5 and Poser 7. From what I have heard about 8 I cannot justify an upgrade.
Big deal if the render time is a little quicker. I have yet to see a full layout of content for Poser 8.
From the above video- there does not seem to be much difference in interfaces, not a big enouph difference to matter.
What people want are better animation tools like what DAZ has and better models- like what DAZ has.
All the animations I use in Poser come from DAZ.

Same problem myself. I use Poser 7 and Daz figures. What we need is more opportunities to work with many figures in the scene. I do not know if Poser8 is really more effective in this.

I have never been able to get collision detection to work.
