  • I have a High Elf army, and I was wondering which Quickshade would be best? Soft, Strong, or Dark?

    Thanks.

  • I have favorited this video of yours because I like it so much. I saw you uploaded this October 2009 but I am making good use of it today. I like painting minis a lot but I am a speed painter. I favor quantity over quality. As you can imagine I am very excited about the Army Painter products. Thanks for this video.

  • will dipping work on chaos space marines

  • Wich colours did you use for thowe warriors? :O

  • Your skills are great, however your breathing and lip smacking is intolerable. I am so put off by it, I can't watch with any sound at all.

  • @AmishManyShield LOL I totally agree !

  • @AmishManyShield If that annoys you, I can't imagine how immaturely you would act if something was legitimately annoying. I didn't even notice it.

  • Youre doing great tutorials! Id like if you would explain exactly what colors u use! Alot of ppl dont say wich shade of the quickshade they use, wich is frustrating when u looking to buy one! Im glad you did that here, i bought the same one!

  • i painted one of my first miniatures whit this technicue and they were the first i was rly proud of

  • What do you say at the start? Hello chewies?

  • What's going on at 4:24?

  • can u show us how to paint the fur?

  • how did you paint the fur on them????

  • @basketballcarder in ianden darksun

  • @GirlPainting allright ill try this and im sure ill like it thanks a lot

  • that realy helped me THANKS

  • i have to get me some of that!

  • maybe use army painter anti shine for the minis?lol i can imagine doing this with a metal mini and just having the army fly off xD

  • maybe use army painter anti shine for the minis?

  • No way I didn't know Ms. Doubtfire was into Fantasy Battle!!!

  • dude what the hell is up with your voice

  • If you want to remove the Sheen off the model, seal spray it in a Matt Varnish. It'll help a lot.

  • 1 - very talented, thumbs up.

2 - the funniest thing about this is when the lady with the creepy voice tells the viewer to follow down to the basement. lol.

  • If i use the army painter dip on a black minitures thats mostly painted in chaosblack would the dip do something to it or would it be to dark to shade the minature further?

  • @LordReaper13 yes, the dark tone with black pigments will turn the black into a blacker black ;-)

  • Hi there...

    Wonderful video... very usefull...

Which tone would u suggest me to dip a white and blue "standard" high elves army? I just added some badab black lavature in the mithril parts, so I was wondering if dipping could be "THE way" to add shades to my elves...

In addition to that, after seeing your job with the DARK tone for your Chaos warriors, i'd like to know if u suggest me to use the same tone for a Khorne or Nurgle Army...

  • @NbaTattoo i cant pick your choice. soft tone is a light brown, strong tone a dark brown and dark tone is black. i suggest you go to the armypainter website and have a look at their examples. there you can see the different tones in action on different miniatures and colour shemes....and high elves are there two i guess

  • @GirlPainting thx 4 the quick answer... i'll take a look at the website to decide...

  • I quite like the effect of that base that has been dipped, looks like a little creak/stream.

  • cool the are so cool and beautiful i have make too chaos warriors warhammer, but the from my bare not soo beautiful.

  • trollfactory ?!

  • Do you do this instead of a final varnish etc? or as a wash or something?

  • Definitely dipping the warriors of chaos army. Thanks for showing how its done the warriors look great :) And does anyone know where I can get army painter spray primer in Canada or get it shipped to Canada without it costing me $40.

    Keep the vids coming :)

  • @cowpow16 miniwargaming carries armypainter spray paints

  • @GirlPainting Thank you so much :) I really appreciate it

  • @GirlPainting Thank you so much :) I really appreciate it

One more thing I have half my army primed with dragon red would it make much of a difference if i change to pure red?

  • @cowpow16 Mini Wargaming does not carry Army painter Dragon Red spray primer which is the recommended color for Blood Angels and Berserkers of Khorn. I recommend Black Knight Games which are Canadian and carry the entire Army Painter line up.

  • Army Painter: Creating lazy hobbiest since... whenever the %&$# they started.

Haha. No hate, just rather do it the good old fashion way.

  • @HollowVampire Some people do prefer the gaming aspect of the hobby. Speaking for myself, I prefer the standard way myself but it's dipping time when it comes to horde armies like orks or skaven. Painted armies, no matter how you do it, looks better then bare ones

  • lol love the voice

  • could u respray already basecoated figures with the primer?

  • @baja5b889 sure, but keep in mind that the more often colour coats are aplyed, the chance of killing the details will raise

  • thanks a lot :)

  • the army painter dip causes the figure to have a gloss shine.. if you want to remove it army painter also carries a dullcote that removes the gloss look.

  • did u gloss ur figures or are they already glossed

  • how does the dragon red primer compare to mechrite red? right now i airbrush to get my base coat and im a little hesitant to try the army painter primers=/

  • @necronorris this is just a primer and works just fine...if it would ruin your mini they woudn´t sell this stuff for priming miniatures ;-)

  • wow

  • lol 5:00 it looks like your betting someone with the wrench

  • are those warhammer warriors of chaos?

  • What is the difference between quickshade and a wash like badab black?

  • @Ryloth123321 Using Badab black enables you to continue to add layers of paint and washes etc onto the model after using a wash. If you use the quickshade technique you cannot paint onto the miniature after it has dried as it will look rubbish. This is basically a quick way to shade an entire army in a universal look quickly.

As Girl Painter says at the start Quickshade is not for Competition or Highly Painted Minis.

  • just make sure ur basecoat colours are effective, mid tones work best, u dont want anything to dark or the model comes out quite horrible. i was fuckin amazed that i managed to paint my skaven army in that amount of time seen as i only spent roughly 1-2 hours painting on most days.

  • just make sure ur basecoat colours are effective, mid tones work best, u dont want anything to dark or the model comes out quite horrible.

  • seriously, this stuff is amazing. getting base colours down is a breeze, simply dip and its very high standard table top quality, i would recommend one more step however. u see that when the quickshade dries its quite glossy, not necessarily what everyone looks for, so simply apply matte varnish and the model is no longer glossy and u have a gud protective coat. btw i painted my skaven army consisting of roughly 300 models in literally the period of 2-4 weeks.

  • Jezz i hope you sprayed them with some matt varnish, it's so glossy it looks like dog balls :))

  • Javlinn - it's only as low quality as you make it, you can go back and highlight after the shade has dried. Then dull coat your mini. Perfect for table top.

  • BAH! Half of my brain is saying "Do it, now you can use those 3000 points of unpainted Chaos Dwarfs!" and the other half knows I'll never be satisfied with a low quality paint job. ARGH!

  • Hi, I'm starting painter and I play Blood Bowl, is this usable fob BB Orcs? I think not, but if it is a good idea (I don't have Quickshade yet) then I will try it.

  • why does this woman sound like a man

  • Do you think this technique will work good on necrons?

  • @ThunderfireMac sure, why not? i would suggest the dark tone with black pigments for necrons

  • @GirlPainting Thanks for responding so quickly =) I will sure try it out.=D

Spray with metalic color, paint details, dip and Done

  • @GirlPainting Do you have a lesson on how to paint WoC?

  • You used dark? strong? soft? what tone? and about the primer ¿is dragon red? ¿would be very different the results with pure red and soft tone? (I think I've mistaken buying soft tone instead of dar or strong)

  • @Wallack i used strong tone and fire red. with soft tone you will get a much lighter shadow then in my example. the dragon red insted is darker then the other red. so together it will be a close match.

  • @GirlPainting Are you sure you have "Fire red" I mean Is the army painter one? because the other army painter red I have is pure red. Also ordered strong and dark tone. Thank you!

  • I am impressed. I will get some of that.

  • Was ist mit Anti Shine ?

  • Wie hast Du es geschafft den Umhang rüchseitig zu grundieren und was macht man wenn man übermalt, gibt es eine ähnliche Farbe wie die AP Grundierung? /

How did you prime the Cape from the interior side and what can I do if I overpaint some edges, is there a simiar color to the AP primer?

  • @IroncladIrony ich hab die modelle einfach im gußramen vorgrundiert, zusammengebaut und dann nachgrundiert

  • @GirlPainting Wieso komme ich nie auf solche Ideen?! :D

  • hey, i was using one of their color primers and noticed some of the models had a rough ttexture afterwards and was wondering how to avoid this in the future.

  • @samplesowoopass this is a general problem with temperature and not well shaken cans.

  • @GirlPainting thanks gor the tip. it was pretty hot and humid, despite it being in the evening. guess i'll have to get up early. Alabama sure sucks in July... and every other month but especially July.

  • war sehr hilfreich das vid und nachdem ich mir quickshade bestellt habe ging alles viel besser kann ich nur weiterempfehlen

  • Hey for world eaters can I use this? What should I use for the red base? Also does it work on tanks and metal figures? Thanks

  • @dmullen1994 yes, blood red, yes, and yes

  • amazing soo going to try it

  • what is best dipping or brushing? im still in practise

  • @Eirikeilng if you whant an army realy fast in tabletop standard painted, then dipping. if you whant realy eye catching miniatures, normal painting with shadows and highlights....but there is no best ;-)

  • hey I am wondering, i am going to repaint my ultramarines for blood angels army. the problem is they are primed GW primer black, i removed all paint with simple green but black primer wont go away =(( Will army painter red spray be good on top of black primer? and how is this quick shade looks on blood angels? thanks girlpainting i love ur videos =))

  • @TheEvak20 the primer will cover the black.

quickshade will work on blood angels but it works better if the model have more recesses then a plane armor like a space marine. i would say it would look better on high detailed marines like chaos marines or space marine minis with manny additional details.

  • @ Robotjoxbigd yes it works on every mini

  • why not just ink wash it, by the looks of it might be easier to ink wash it.

  • would Quickshade work on High Elves?

  • @Robotjoxbigd From what I have seen through tutorials it will work but I'm not sure due to not having tried it out myself YET

  • wow thank you!!

    Any suggestions for Killa kans

  • would this method work if you sprayed the models green? Going for a nurgle theme here.

  • @ALX753 sure

  • @ALX753 you should throw some more colours on them before diping

  • those dont look very good... they look HIGHLY glossed.... my opinion take 30-45 minutes and just paint the armour going up the reds looks way better i understand this was requested good vid just not for me

  • @warhammervlogs

Dull cote takes care of all that.

  • Ahh this is awesome haha your right no excuses now for not having a painted army lol

  • very nice

  • is dipping the same as washing couse the result looks the same

  • @emniko91 no, its not the same and the result looks totaly different in real

  • So you use Quickshade instead of a wash like badab-.black?

  • @Milkfeedboy yes

  • basiccly just buy a huge vat and fill it with devaln mud

  • is that your real voice?

  • yeah...i wish i saw this before i diped my models with army painter.... i dipped with the bases on already... hehe. total disaster....i had to rebase them. But i chose strong tone...do you recomend dark tone to match devlin mudd?

  • @johnkerry7 it depends what you whant to acomplish? strong tone is with brown pigments and dark tone with black pigments.

  • your voice is quite anoying... but nice tutorial

  • Thanks for the awesome tutorial. I have a question please: When I dipped my marauders I shook them and left them to dry as instructed. Once dryed I noticed that they had stuck to the surface they were left to dry on. Once removed they had a roughness at the bottom of the base where they were forced off the drying surface. Any tips/suggestions please? Many thanks!!!

  • after dipping, just clean the bascorner with a paper towl or a q-tip like i did at the end.

  • @GirlPainting Opps good point! Sorry and thanks for the patience to my silly question lol.

  • how well will this work for eldar/dark eldar models?

  • @TheWolfBearProject it will work the same way

  • nice video but do you have to use dark tone first than soft tone and then strong tone or do you just use for example only strong tone

  • you just use one of the three. soft and strong tone are with brown pigments, and dark tone with black.

  • Will you show us the models once you've sprayed them with mat varnish? Or is this the final stage?

  • i dont have the anti shine spray from armypainter jet. and dont try to use a normal mat varnish. this will leave a white coat over the mini.

  • I just want to know if u have painted the model with the shield glued...if u have i think you are really good!?!Thanks!

  • Hi!Do you prime your mini before the shield are glued on them or after the shield are on???Thanks Alexandra!

  • i preprimed with one little spray the shild back and the torso front, build the model, and then primed compleetly.

  • Thank you! This helps a lot. I am thinking about painting a starter army for Warhammer. I am focused on my Crimson Fists Chapter right now.

  • i think you would be fun to pay and i would love you instead of blue table painting to do my dark eldar armyim only 12 so im not a god of painting yet put im decent for orks so my email is parkerjeans98@yahoo.comtell me its you ill delete it

  • thx now my warrior of chaos are really nice :)

  • Awesome stuff, where can it be had???

  • You might want to try mate water based wood stain. It gets the exact same ressut, but its cheaper and it comes in different colors so you can mix them and create some really cool effects.

  • Also, the water based wood stain doesn't give that shiny gloss. It comes out with a flat finish that looks way more realistic.

  • Your work is awesome! I have in my possession a massive warriors of chaos army, i will try to follow your footstep...thanks a lot for the tips!!!

  • I am very impressed by your warriors of chaos i really like the deep red and the shade!!!

  • Tell me if i am right you can do diping only if the miniature is dry from painting ?

  • yes, the mini should be dry before diping. but acrylic paint dont need so long to dry ;-)

  • Can u tell me where to get this quickshade...i ve been lookin on Ebay but i cant find it.I dont know where to get it i am from Canada!!!?

  • try looking in the store from miniwargaming. maybe they have it.

  • Is it the same technique of diping for lead miniature...it must be different for larger models like ogres and mounted hero!?

  • its basicly the same. if the mini dont fit into the can, just aply it with a brush.

  • Which tone of quickshade you recommend for Mettalic painted miniature? Is it the Dark tone for Blue and Dark color?

  • Dark Tone

  • try useing anti-shine to remove the shine from the modles. great vid

  • Ich hab irgendwann erzählt bekommen dieser Army Painter sei nur eine Holz Lasur. *g*

  • das ist es aber definitiev nicht.

  • you're vids are awesome, subscribed!

  • I'm glad that I've found out about these products. Thanks GirlPainting! This will certainely make painting huge numbers of models a less miserable task to do. Sorry GW, my money's for Army Painter now... Except for the awesome miniatures that you make! Here's a question: When should I apply transfers? Before or after Quickshade? On AP's website, they suggest that you "seal" the decal with paint. How about varnish? Maybe if I use decal solvent, it won't matter... Great video GP!

  • put the transfer first on the mini, then just dip it. the dip will seal the decal for you.

  • Thanks for the advice! =]

  • Awesome tutorial!

How much different would the red colour be if i use the "strong tone" dip instead on my Khorne Berzerkers? Would it look as good as those?

  • i dont know. i dont have strong tone but i think it would not be a great different effect, just with a slightly other tone. strong tone is brown instead of black in the dark tone.

  • Does a matte varnish get rid of that look that they all all dipped minis seem to have?

  • only the one from armypainter itself. dont use gw varnish. it will produce a white coat over the models.

  • link where to buy this stuff PLEASE!!!!!!!!

  • just google army painter and you will find the homepage

  • thanks for posting this, it was great talking to you about Quick Shade and the points Army painter offers. Looking forward to more videos :)

  • Basecoating the actual miniature itself takes a very long time to do for me so.. I still take months to complete an army ( still havent finished my greenskin one lol )

  • Don't paint mine like that! :-)

  • dont worry ;-P

  • I was going to ask you about this too. Nice effect if your in a hurry. Absolutely no excuse to play with an unpainted army.

  • Very good tutorial! Everything looks great, and very clean, especially for the time put into it.

  • So if I'm painting red and tan Guardsmen, I should use the strong tone?

  • strong or dark tone. its just personal tast. strong tone is with brown pigments, and dark tone with black

  • Great tutorial GP!! =)

but isnt that almost the same as a wash?

  • no. washes have a totaly different look. just watsh almost all of my tutorial videos. there you can see how a miniature looks that is compleetly washed

  • Ok, Thanks for sharing =)

  • great tips thanks

  • I have used army painter Quickshades as well and was equally impressed. Your chaos warriors look fantastic, especially when you consider they probably only took a few minutes to paint. I do highly recommned hitting the models with some matte varnish to take the shine off though.

  • Nice tutorial! It'll definitely come in handy when I pick up some of the new Skaven.

  • Excellent how to video Alexandra. See ya on Vent!

    Cat/

  • you used army paint noooo thats cheating lol no im only joking they look mint !

  • That is some very nice results! I'm jealous such a nice mini with so little work :P

I'm too afraid to try this with my white marines I don't know how the result would look O_O

  • on the homepage from army painter you can see an example of a cybot, and the parchment is basecoated white. they used the quick shade soft tone for it.

  • promise I did not ask muahahaha :D nice tutorial wiiii

  • A good technique if you wanted to quickly paint up miniature for use by younger children - after all who wants to let a 10 year old loose on your masterwork!

    ~Z~

  • Thanks for sharing:)

  • Ive never tried dipping minis looks interesting as ive a ton of tyranids i might sell and give em a paint job quick thanks for sharing .

  • ooooooooh tht comes out quite nice if u want ya armies done quick. i think i jus found my answer to the hordes or tyranids hiding in my room xD

  • as i told...no excuse for unpainted models anymore ;-)

  • bah! Beat me to it! They look great Alexandra!

  • i told you this morning im going to do a tut on this ;-) but i like it that you like it. see you on vent.

    greetings, Alexandra
