I hv not watch the movie ver yet. the scene where the quarter transforms and destroys the alien ship is pretty much identical to the EP08 in the TV version. and that is the coolest scene in MACROSS F i think. Of course the singing is very important. it is the soul.

Yeah, but they had a 2 hour movie to introduce the characters, start building the love triangle, tell a story, and blow crap up. Having Alto and Ranka have a pre-existing friendship saves time and makes the movie feel less crammed. This is probably the best "adapt (half) a tv series into a movie" film i've seen.
I agree that the series' version of the relationships was better though.

The Daedalus maneuver: Concentrating all of the Pinpoint Barrier's energy into the tip of the Arms Battering Ram , the ship was able to penetrate the Vajra ship by literally punching into it with the fists.
Once achieved, the hatches opened and a group of destroids stationed launched a barrage of missiles inside the ship. The enemy ship was destroyed from the inside.
Sadly the "Macross Frontier: The False Songstress" is a LOT inferior to the actual Macross Frontier anime...I highly recomment to watch the movie before the anime to avoid dissapointments.

Actually I just red some of posts done by japanese fans on a forum and from the way they describribed thier expirence with part 2as very disappointing, hopefully the studio is just doing what they did with the original macross. Movie with alternate storyline then OVA that continues and concludes the tv series.
Film received thunderous applause in premiere and if quality of films were judged by ability to move people and make them cry Sayonara is a damn masterpiece. :P I saw it 4 times while I was in Japan and every time some people in the audience had wet eyes. The comments I've read by japanese and western fans who've seen the film have been universally very appraising as well and the blockbuster success of OST (and the way film has performed clearly better than first one) is also telling.
now I'm not saying everyone liked it (or that they should) but overall reception has been very positive and IMO film deserves it. Only worry I have about the film is that it's made in a way that demands that it's seen on big screen and I fear it won't have the same impact seen on computer screen. Damn well written with improvements to characters, animation and narrative with AMAZING action and great music on par with series. Series was already great but the film still blew my mind.

Tv series already resolved everything but triangle so I don't see much room for such OVA anyway and film takes care of that.

@012689 Ah well, that's another thing. Flashback is final part of "original Macross" (I thought you were only referring to that). Plus, Macross 7 and Frontier are all sequels to original...the original storyline is "finished" with Flashback 2012. That's what I ment. Now Frontier is supposedly finished with Sayonara no Tsubasa. Time will tell if next year we get some new Macross series for 30th Anniversary, more Frontier or nothing at all.

@witchchocola What I meant was that this the first movie of two. The 'end' shown in the movie is not the end of the story. The second movie hits theaters in Japan in 2011 and will conclude the story.
