  • Beautiful memories...just makes me want to flash the peace sign at everyone. Where is my old olive drab army surplus coat? Thank you to the YouTube time machine.

  • I heard the chorus of this song in a "Everybody hates Chris" episody and look for it!

  • omar and cuba gooding jr look like they father he can't say they not his son's

  • 17 people didn't dig this !

  • I love the way this was put together! Shows great music no matter if you're black or white! This was a great time growing up and listening to these classics!

  • "You say you even feel like dying?" I feel that way everytime I leave an all~you~can~buffet. Seriously, good song, good memories.

  • everybody plays the fool, there's no exception to the rule.

  • This is one of the most EUPHORIC & ABSOLUTELY TENDER LOVING songs I have ever heard! Another great song with that same LOVING TENDERNESS came out in 1963 titled, FORGET HIM...And it was sung to perfection by BOBBY RYDELL! Then there's, TAKE GOOD CARE OF MY BABY (BOBBY VEE). Although none, in my opinion, can match the pure EUPHORIC qualities of, THE RAIN THE PARK & OTHER THINGS by the COWSILLS, even though it lacked that LOVING TENDERNESS which makes, EVERYBODY PLAYS THE FOOL, so UNIQUE!

  • lol at 1:42 you can tell thats cuba gooding jr's pops

  • I DIDNT KNOW CUBA GOODING JR DADDY MADE THIS SONG I LOVE THIS SONG MY AUNTIE PLAYED IT TO DEATH GROWING UP. CUBA JR TELL CUBA SENIOR I SAID U GO BOY....LOL

@1:55 -- Oh, Hi Alyssa Milano!

  • This version is a HELL of a lot better than Aaron Neville.

  • dig this!

  • You say you're having a bad day? Job/life sucks? Well, dig THIS!

  • It is wonderful what would the world be like without music. It is life!!!

  • I have, more than ONCE, more than TWICE, more than THRICE. Hummm??? How many times have I played the fool, now? I dunno. All I know, is that I'm playing the fool right now. Falling in love with a gal, probably two at the same time, right now. So here I go playing the fool one, or two, more times. So this Song was written for ME!!! Nobody has me beaten on that score, let me tell you.

  • I in jr high at the time..so many good records that year...couldnt wait to go buy those 45's saving all my babysitting money to go to woolworths ,.pete's in El Monte, later it was musicland at the mall, ..now its all about itunes and youtube, nothing like reading the album covers and putting that vinyl on the turn table. Thank you for the nostalgia!

  • @pdddddp1 With some of us, that reality can feel like being hit with a huge sledgehammer.

  • It is REALLY bizarre that music WAS this good at one point when compared to today's stuff. I sometimes feel like I woke up in a different dimmension at some point, than the world I lived in in the 70's.

  • @xSweetKiszeSx i know the feeling.i tell all ppl you better enjoy ur parents while you got them. JUST REAL TALK

  • @xSweetKiszeSx some mons and dads still have those record players and for some reason, even with the scratches, this music still sounds a lot bette than some of todays meaninless songs. How did I end up here from Boston to Ambrosia ???? wow.

    what a memory trip !

  • Little known fact: Cuba Gooding Sr. from this band is the father of famous actor Cuba Gooding Jr.

  • @gjvb thanks for that fact!

  • and your ability to reason is swept away....Yeah! Ain't it great!

  • AMAZING music!

  • Obama is the BEST

  • i definately played the fool!!!! haha!

  • Click It Or Ticket Commercial...lol

  • I wonder if this song was inspired by the Connie Francis song "Everybody's Somebody's Fool". The refrain sounds similar.

  • i love this song from the 70s whan i was in school at southcoos hi if u no me i am ramon e c/s

  • does anyone else have an issue with the scantily clad females? what do those megan fox looking chicks have to do with black music in the early 70s? LOVE the song, but the video leaves a little bit to be desired. Thank you for the upload tho. Appreciate it.

  • it needs the words on the screen to make it perfect production

  • An ALL-TIME CLASSIC!

  • The reason behind everybody playing a fool is because wickedness rule in this world. In this song politician is no exemption to this rule too because if they act sane they end-up being assassinated, or unrighteously remove from duty by mudslingers. Just like what happened to: Excellent President Bill Clinton, and Honorable Governor Elliot Spitzer in trying to be so assertive in cleaning laundry in the prostitution businesses.

  • @Lor2246 Man, did I need a good laugh and this comment gave it to me.

What a great song...one of my Motown favorites.

  • @Lor2246 Did you quit taking your meds again?

  • @Lor2246 oh the bill clinton who through NATO cemented the genocide happening to kosovo's serbs and other non-muslim ethnic groups and sold off our industrial base to the far east making us far more prone to collapse under economic hits? oh how bout the housing bubble he helped set the stage for?

  • @READY4REV that really made my day....it put a great big smile on my face and in my heart.

  • i wasnt even born when this song came out but i love it so so much!!

  • DIG THIS !

  • @jrushmen Too true! "Dig this." ... How great is that! Sure beats "Lissin' up yawl" or whatever we hear these days.

  • @edwardmashberg1 Dig This was the phrase I grew up and I agree with you 100% that it beats any others. This song was so prevalent When I was a kid in '72.

  • For years, I thought it was everybody PAYS a fool! But I have enjoyed the song for a long time.

  • Cuba Gooding Sr. two sons are doing ok. Cuba Jr. and Omar Gooding

  • I need a "The Main Ingredient" T-shirt...BLACK HIPSTERS UNITEEEEE!

  • Old People..

  • that bari sax at 2:26 is better than sex

  • oh my god at 0:40 Cuba Gooding Sr. looks just like Jr.

  • Main Ingredient owns this and is awesome! Aaron Neville does one of the best covers of any song you'll ever hear of this very song.

  • in the mid-90's, I bought an old Coupe De Vile, 72. It still had the original sounds still in the car! old, A.M. 8 track in the dash! One day near A mall, Some of the younger brotha's were checking out my sled and I over heard them saying how I just needed some tunes, so I had this one in the 8 track,(in those days that the car was made, this was state of the art.) and the staple singers on the seat, so i just bumped it in. Period tunes 4 classic cars, the kids thought it was the greatest!
