My group backed them at tehe Red Rooster-Greensburg back when this was new. Shirley (I think) the lead was beautiful and a great singer. They came in looking ragged by car, but when they came out on stage, they all looked and sounded beautiful! Too many people thought the records were Little Anthony.
I think this is awesome. It's awesome to see how many people really were touched by my mom and cousins music. The Royalettes are all doing well, still alive and most still singing. They are aware of your wonderful comments and honored by the love.
I saw the Royalettes at the Howard in DC in 1965 when this song first came out right around Thanksgiving, harmonizing in white dresses under those multi-colored spotlights and looking like a million dollars. Thanks for posting this golden oldie.
The best, as it reminds us of the anticipation of a love we want to pursue, and the "thought" of what might be, is often better than the reality that follows.
its 00:29 cold saturday night in s.e london. waiting for f1 tomorrow, nothing to do tonight aside enjoying a can of stella as this plays loud thru the bose speakers.
Teddy Randazzo cut a few really good songs himself back in the very early 60's. I didn't realize he wrote to many great tunes for the Roylaettes and Little Anthony. No wonder I always loved those two groups and their recordings.
I was turned onto the Royalettes via a record dealer with a love for girl groups back in 1999. He pantomimed their songs for me - LOL! Royalettes have been a firm fav ever since. I'm 31 now and this is what I play for my 5-year old son so he knows GREAT vocalists and wickid arrangements :)
Props to Teddy Randazzo who produced for the Royalettes and Little Anthony. Some of the most beautiful arrangements I've ever heard. "You Bring Me Down" is another great song by this vastly underappreciated group from Baltimore. Thanks so much for posting this Pittsburgh classic.
The Royalettes were a fantastic group with a great sound but they couldn't match the success of Motown's Supremes. When the Supremes hit it was hard for other girl groups to get the success. Even other girl groups at Motown had a hard time because of the Supremes. Though I love my girls (Supremes) I loved listening to the likes of the other girl group, the Royalettes being one of them.
pookie -- a million thanks for posting this gem. I concur with the others here in their praise for the wonderful Royalettes, the pride of Baltimore. Why they weren't among the top-selling girl groups of all-time, I couldn't tell you. Here in Philly, as in Pittsburgh, this was a very popular song. Two towns that know their oldies!!
glad to have brought back some memories. i always loved this song, and it was really a big hit here in the burgh. i think the royalettes made a couple of trips here on this one. thanks for watching!
couldn't agree more. what's really sad is that there are thousands of small stations out there that would be suprised if they started doing nightly request shows. It's worked in pgh., and i think it would work in a lot of markets. the people want to hear gooood music. personally i'm tired of the crap these syndicates are force feeding us.
Thanks PGHPOOKIE! This song is just as beautiful as the others.I saw group perform at the Regal Theatre in Chicago in 64 or 65 right before Uncle Sam called me to southeast asia. I took both albums with me!
thanks for watching. and thanks for your patriotic service for all of us. i lost 3 friends in nam, and these songs bring back memories of the good times we all had together.they were great friends and great times.
One of my all time favorite girl soul groups!!!

@fncz Too many people thought the records were Little Anthony.
That's because they were produced by the same people.

Remember the "rush" of seeing that special face, and the longing and anticipation that burned in your heart... until you finally met him!

Another haunting favorite of mine. Somewhere on a tape reel on an old Webcor tape recorder that I no longer have.

Just a lazy summer day on the corner of 5th & Shadyside. I'd go for that as long as I could listen to the Royalettes.

Yep those were the days. Me and the fellows were shipping out of Fort Knox when WLOU, Louisville, broke this out one night. Quite a memory.

Such a pretty tune from such a polished group.
All of their hits (although not many)are sweet.

This song has been rattling around in my head for over 35 tears (and also 35 years). Thank you , Youtube, for bringing my childhood back.

No, they were separate singles. Each had its own flipside with songs from the album "It's Gonna Take A Miracle."

This is a great group from Baltimore that had some great songs, but most of them have been forgotten by the radio stations. It is too bad.
