Hi Joey, First, let me say how great is is to see you all these years after TBC and our many talks about Deaf people's struggles. You look great and I so enjoy watching your beautiful language skills. For me it is "dark chocolate for the eyes." Second, thanks for digging up this video of Ella's interview. I recently watched her vlog about diversity and "diversions"...WOW!
She is so amazing...you are right... she has been saying this for more than 30 years. Please continue...we want more!
Fantastic find! I want to touch on your point about very slow progress on advancing ASL education: It IS wonderful that it's finally being formally taught at some schools. Let's encourage more of that as fast as we can! What about adult Deaf? Are we going to just leave a huge gap between the current young generation and "us"? A big part of culture is interaction between all ages of said culture, right? How about formal ASL courses primarily made for adult/post school age Deaf?
Joey, glad that you took your time to share this old video with us. Wow! Ella's goals are no change since 1977. Wow! I did recognized her before you mentioned her name even I haven't met her and I hope I will. Her facial expressions don't change at all.
First thing I didnt noticed a young lady.. u called Ella.. I said myself what!! She looks different... Yes I cant believe that she still bring her own same words. Thank you for sharing.. Enjoy your first day at work.
Wow, that's a great find to this 35 year old interview with Ella. Obviously she still stays with that same principle and philosophy ever since. Here to a big hope that is noticed to use that same principle and philosophy to implement ASL in each Deaf Schools while barring audism everywhere.
Wow, Ella Mae's philosophy have proven to be true after all! I was 7 at that time, hm. She was very beautiful and still is today! Awesome, priceless video! Thank you for sharing it with us, Joey.
Wow, I couldn't believe it but I do believe it! She made a message about AUDISM! She said, "FIRST WE REMOVE THE AUDISM, then we set up classrooms for teaching formal sign language in every Deaf school in America along with English". That is very profound at young age. Today her wisdom is priceless! I agree with ridor9th's comment- We are lucky to have her in our communities! Thank you Joey for your homework; for wondering how it worked after Stokoe recognized ASL.
Joey! I almost did not recognize her but I do recognize her principles that have not been changed since 1977. Many thanks for sharing the priceless video with us. I was at high school at that time... Wow awesome!
Thanks to you Joey for bringing up the old video of Ella even though I never met her in person. I always admire her passions for our deaf community. Wow! She does not change a bit! You are right that its been very slow to rise our ASL awareness from late 70's. Slow technology back then that slow us a bit? Keep it up Joey. Look forward to view the whole old film of Ella. Peace-WEC
One word that I can describe Ella Mae Lentz is consistency. She does NOT waver from that path of consistency. And we are lucky to have her in our communities!
