Not sure if you fixed the problem being it so long ago.

Is there a loose connection or any wires hanging from the drop down target?

And have you tried replacing the drop down target?

As it sounds like a faulty switch since you can't trigger it manually either.

In a arcade hall in holland we had the same problem all of a sudden.. never fixed it.. it was the same one!!!! really weird!!
